When all the twelve Apostles try to ring me on the phone
Take a message but I wouldn't return their call
For I have no eyes to see him and I thought I lost my way
And I know I've lost the keys to your door, well, ah

And I climbed the highest mountain and I looked down on the sea
And I saw a ship a-sail to the shore
I took a passage to the East and I journeyed to the West
I made love from Battambang to Baltimore

I said, oh, am I running in a race?
I said, oh, am I getting anyplace?
I said, oh, can I make it?

I'm a wandering spirit
Yes, I'm a wandering spirit
Oh yes, I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit, yes I am a restless soul
I'm a wandering spirit, there's no place that I can call my own

I was a glutton at the banquet and I spilt the finest wine
Trod the pyramids and ruins of Angkor
I kissed the Mona Lisa and I breakfasted with kings
And I touched the nerves of nature in the raw

I said, oh, am I running in a race?
I said, oh, take that smile right off your face?
I said, oh, I can't make it?

I'm a wandering spirit
Oh yes, wandering spirit
Oh yes, wandering spirit, no escape, no parole
I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit
There's no place that I can call my home

I said, oh, am I running in a race?
I said, oh, take that smile right off your face?
I said, oh, I can't make it?

I'm a wandering spirit
Oh yes, a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit, looking for a place to go

I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit
I'm a wandering spirit, no escape, no parole
I'm a wandering spirit, I'm a lost and lonely soul

One of the funnier comments I've read in a while.
sad how desparate he has become.  negative talent.

I'm calling BS on this account from Belgium 93/94.  Plain and simple.  I've been to Stones concerts in several countries, including Belgium, and I've never seen early departures in any great number from their shows.  Ever.  Their fans love them and are rarely, if ever, disappointed. They sure loved them in Werchter in 2014, where I saw them with 80,000 Belgians, who were fired up for the ENTIRE set.  At Quebec City in 2015 there were over 100,000 in attendance and no one was leaving there early either.  Whether you like them or not, the Stones are beloved wherever they go and the people that pay to see them (prices that are too high, IMO) aren't leaving early.

Calling BS on your BS call.  Just because you happened to catch two shows that were great, each of them 20 years after the previously alleged sucky show, does not negate the fact that you both could be speaking the truth.

After watching 20 Feet From Stardom I will always see Mick and the backup singer, is it Jean McClain/Pepper MaShay, and believe it is their voice and performance combination that makes this song kapow. Love it!
Decent lil Blues Band. If I saw em in a pub I'd drop a couple bucks in the hat
Please play more from this record, please?
He must be quite curious about life in order to be a "wondering spirit," lol.
Check out the 'Brenda' story...
What an amazing and wonderful artist and performer.  Only one Mick!
Mick sounds a little like Willie Nelson at the start of this one.
I don't think I would have ever heard this song if it wasn't for RP.  Now it is among the essentials in many of my playlists, and I never get tired of it.  Thanks Bill and Rebecca!

He is in fine form on this track. Back to those maximum rhythm and blues formative days. 👏
Don't Tear Me Up is a good one on this album

While listening to this song in Feb. '19, my dismissal of Mick as crap then ('93) and "now" ('16) seems a bit harsh. But he still strikes me as a star who gets by largely because he is/was a star. This song/album was supposed to be a different side of Mick and it still just sounds slick and empty. That was in '93 and I haven't heard much from Mick since then to make me change my mind.

Maybe he and the Stones can still put out music that sounds like they mean it--I don't know. But I ain't feelin' it on this track.

And again, I invite you to compare Mick's version of "Commit a Crime" in front of the Obamas with Howlin' Wolf's. The Wolf brings it and makes the song's story R-e-a-l. Mick just flits around in a tired imitation of his old Red Rooster ways.

Hey guys.... let's all compare a white English rock singer late in his career to an original black American blues icon recorded in his prime.   Degree of difficulty: We're comparing a studio recording made decades ago with a recent live appearance at the White House (of all places).  Apparently, Jagger was "Red Roostering" (whatever that means) and... well we have no idea what Wolf was doing as we only see still picture.

This is a completely fair comparison.

The Stones' latest album has some good tracks, but Mick makes a fool of himself in front of President Obama, despite Jeff Beck's best efforts. Video of Mick bumbling through Howlin' Wolf's "Commit a Crime:"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE-P15qCIqQ

When I was young and now that I'm older....I've always loved The Stones.  I remember one time in my thirties my mother came to my house and hearing Mick said, "I always thought when you grew up would you stop listening to him."  LOL --- as if and never. {#Dancingbanana_2}
Okay, as a believer, I have to say, this last set was really cool:

Matthew Sweet — Divine Intervention
Marianne Faithfull — Broken English
Mick Jagger — Wandering Spirit

There's a theme there! Thanks Bill.

Great story!  I would have done the same.  Too bad that most music stores are staffed with people who wouldn't know their Stones from their Stone Roses.  Jagger has another cool song called "Old Habits Die Hard," which I love. It got played a lot, and then just dropped off the radar. Standard radio is SO jaundiced!

There is a lawsuit in this for John Fogarty(My baby left me).   I like the song but in listening to the intro couldn't place the difference.
I've been disliking the Stones for 43 years myself...and actually like this tune. A sure surprise for me...great energy. Maybe because this doesn't sound like the Stones...that I like it.

He looks like Nick Cave after an all night drinking/coke/heroin binge.

If he wasn't a musician he could be on one of those "This is your face on drugs" posters.

And of course I'm only mocking his appearance because I've never been a fan of the Stones in general and Mick specifically.

What's wrong with dying your hair? Some people just don't like grey. I started going grey when I was 13 (thanks mom!), and sometimes I dye and sometimes I don't. I'm not try to hang on to my youth, I just occasionally get tired of the grey. If the end result is a more youthful look, that's a nice benefit, but not the main goal!

I dig Keef's solo stuff too, but I agree that some guidance from Mick wouldn't have hurt. This discussion reminds me of Brian May's solo efforts, he could have used the guidance of Roger and Freddie in some areas - take "Cyborg" or "China Belle" for example. It's good to hear these guys expressing themselves outside the norm.

He gets the best results in combination with Mick Jagger's input and the other way around, IMO. That and what he other Stones members contributed made them big in the first place. I doubt very much whether they would have had much success apart from each-other.

It's funny, but I think that Mick sounds better now than he ever did as a youth. He must have some decent song writers and producers. Or maybe because the music is a bit trite that it elevates his flare. The ensemble seems too perfectly plucked from a bluesy southern baptist genre.

I think it's on an even par with the Stones later "crap" I'm afraid...
