No one told me about her
The way she lied
Well, no one told me about her
How many people cried
Well, it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care
Please don't bother trying to find her
She's not there...oh oh oh
Nobody told me about her
What could I do
Well, nobody told me about her
Though they all knew
Well, it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care
Please don't bother trying to find her
She's not there....
Well, let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acted, the color of her hair
Her voice is soft and cool
Her eyes are clear and bright
But she's not there...
Well it's too later to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care
Please don't bother trying to find her
She's not there...

Yes indeed. I concur..brings to mind "Stormy" ..on the Inner Secrets album
I've long been one of Santana's (the guitarist not the band, since the fabulous post-1973 band had about a dozen interchangeable lineups) biggest fans. But this cut is not one for the highlight playlists. Only the Zombies (or the original writer) were enriched by this cover. It was on my pod but I cut it from the team. I seem to remember reading that Carlos himself was not glad to be roped by the producer into cutting this and similar tracks from that era.

I'm a die-hard Santana fan - but not of anything from this time of this song onward. This song is atrocious, with some of the most obnoxious "guitar hero" playing ever recorded. It's almost unbelievable that this is the same guy who recorded "Song of the Wind". Today's Santana is what you get when money is the only thing he's playing for.
works for me but a segue to the zombies would work too
Yeah! Normally can't abide Santana but this is bearable, apart from the self indulgent guitar bit
Do not like this. Too much guitar show-off devalues this song. The original is way better!

It's on his "Simplicity" album with a lot of other covers (and his minor hit, "Working on my Tan"). I rate it a "6". It's ok. He's got better.
It's an awkward album as much of it sounds like theatre acting and technical vocal exercises. For example, he does an interesting version of "Summer in the City" but it has little passion and none of the spontaneity of the original.
I agree, too. And I'd love to hear the Tim Curry version!

I do like Santana's version, but I also like the original too.. and then this one... by Neko Case and Nick Cave ... https://bit.ly/k9IQiH

Agreed, except I only gave this an 8 instead of 9. It's a fantastic cover, but I'm frustrated that Bill doesn't play more of the Zombies, so my protest at not playing the Zombies original is 9 —> 8
I like this #9. Zombies,well a classic 10.

Acceptable but pales in comparison to the original...

I must be getting old...........I always enjoyed Carlos but I find my self wondering "why so much guitar noise?" Yup I'm getting old.
Carlos had his guitar licks and they were awfully good ... but his percussionists were what really drove the band. Perhaps that's why their songs are still played 35 years after the fact.
Ugh...
Santana pop...not for me...now the original, that's another story
ZOMBIES

He was reaching for a way back in to pop music popularity and relevance. This brought him a lot of attention from the current Clear Channel crowd but was pretty disappointing to those of us who loved Abraxas.

you're not so wise if ya think that
utterly bland risk free pablum. if not for Carlos Santana's close association with uberhack Clive Davis we would have stop hearing this crap many many years ago
you're not so wise if ya think that
I also suggest Malcolm McLarens Ripoff "About her". Completely different but still recognizable to its original.

Moonflower (1978), a hybrid of studio and live tracks. If you're really a fan, it's worth buying. It features Carlos at his incendiary best.
What album was this originally on? I thought I had all Santana disks.

That's the version I want to hear.
i think he means Tim Burton. it's the one that is dark and then his wife plays the starring role.
no wait...that's all of them.

Zombies, Santana, Tim Curry, Crowded House, etc. etc. You may prefer one version by any of these artist more than others, as I do, but the bottom line is that this is just a great song!

Surprisingly tasty (vocals especially) cover!
This oft-covered song is wonderful. This version seems mostly like an opportunity for ol' Devadip to play some solos. Of the covers, I think I'd take the one by Vanilla Fudge.
Vanilla Fudge - Bonn, 2004
They leave me cold. Really cold, like the passion of it all - she's not there.
