Put a lid on it
What's that you say?
Put a lid on it
Oh man, no way
Put a lid down on it, and everything will be all right.
Put a lid on it
Don't hand me that
Put a lid on it
I'm all right, Jack
Put a lid down on it, before somebody starts a fight.
Say, every time I turn it loose you cats Come down and cook my goose
When I start I just can't stop
But if you keep this up you're gonna blow your top!
Put a lid on it
Too late this time
Put a lid on it
I've got to get what's mine
Put a lid down on it, and everything will be all right.
Well, grab your drink and clear a space I think it's time to torch this place
Now the girl's in overdrive
But some of your pals want to stay alive!
I'll put a lid on it
I'll put a lid down on it
Save it for another night
What's that you say?
Put a lid on it
Oh man, no way
Put a lid down on it, and everything will be all right.
Put a lid on it
Don't hand me that
Put a lid on it
I'm all right, Jack

i own this, still, i don't remember my CD sounding this good, and i played it loud.
The more I hear it, the more I like it!! Thanx RP!
Excellent! I never heard of them before. Thanx RP!
Saw the re-formed Zippers last year in Berkeley on their Hot anniversary tour and they Blew the Lid Off It! They were at the start of a year long tour, but I don't know how they could have lasted more than a week at that level of frenzy. Thoroughly enjoyable.

This is DOPE AS HELL! I thought for sure I was listening to a song from the 20's that was remastered.
right? I was totally in the Swing revival in the late 90s, something so cool about the genre, the dancing, the wallets on chains, that goes well with the single malts I like to drink (neat of course, if it's good stuff)
And then recently my wife said her bro's g/f was a guest accordionist for some band 'squirrel something' and I was like "the Squirrel Nut Zippers!!?!!" and the fact I knew the band was way cool (although my wife thinks I'm cool all the time, so no biggie there) ....too bad I wasn't down in Austin for those shows!!

Bonedaddys?! Three huzzah for the Bonedaddies and their era of World Party Music! SNZ appreciated also. Saw them at Blue Note Honolulu earlier this year for a chill evening.

SNZ rock it well and very old-school style in this, love it!

I'd love to hear China Forbes or Storm Large sing with these guys.
What a trip.
Super Doopah! Zips got me totally activated

Ah, ah, ah, Bill! You just found Mark Knopfler inspiration for "Camerado"...

Haven't heard this in ages!!!! Love it!
Not my fav track by them, but great group. And the other songs on this same album are great FYI.
I just love these dorks - they're so much fun, but they've got such talent, too - vocals, incredible instrumentals, and that quirky, devilish, tongue-in-cheek humor. They take risks not many artists would take, and they don't underestimate their listening audience. That's so cool...

Gauche-bags. Talking about all your panty waist "martinis" and never once mention gin or vermouth? I scoff in your general direction. Serving banana pudding in a martini glass doesn't make it a "banana martini".

Ditto that. I get what they're going for but I'd just as soon listen to the "real thing." Her voice simply grates on me now.

"Meant to Be" from SNZ was my wedding song, but for my money, ya can't beat "Blue Angel." Sweet, hot sounds. And great in concert. Too bad about the sour breakup and all the pursuant lawsuits, eh?
OK we give. So totally against the mainstream media in this country now. This is such a breath of fresh air. I'm givin' up some cash. Ya'll rock. Squirrel Nut, BB King, Medeski. Damn. Thanks RP.
THIS ROCKS.
I like Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers better. "One Hour Mama" is a great album.

A swizzle is not for this drink. . . ever.

Worth a 5 for the name alone :), plus an extra 2 for the 'back to basics' retro sound.
This one is cute, but D-A-M-N-A-T-I-O-N is among the best off this one and not overplayed. "Plenty More" off The Inevitable album is nice too.
Mmmmmm. Bari Sax solo.

I wish you'd have pointed this out before they released the album. They could have put it out without faultiness.
Me luvs me sum SNZ's!
Quality. Every time.

Or, like saying "that chick is pretty ugly".
Dig it, cats...

pointless noise. why don't they Zip their squirrel nut mouths?

Sure - haven't you ever known an ugly hot chick? She's the one that isn't all that physically attractive, but she's just so damn cool that she's hot anyway. I've dated a couple - they make very high quality, low maintenance girlfriends.
SNZ have taken a bunch of very derivative elements and come up with something thoroughly original. And timely, too, if you ask me - right about the time Hot came out, it was just the right thing. Clearly that's born out in the way their popularity skyrocketed at the time.
For my part, I'm totally psyched to hear SNZ on RP any time, and this entire album is excellent!

TAP TAP TAP
Fun!

The SNZ are just pure fun!">
Lack time to list its faults!
It's on the soundtrack for "A Life Less Ordinary" I think as well

Ah, the official Port-A-John theme song. ;-)
Novelty, yes, but good novelty. Quite likeable (and catchy).
and my favorite bar has my favorite martini (what I call the Mugro, of course, made with Grey Goose mandarin vodka and a splash of Gran Marnier, and a slice of orange as garnish, shaken not stirred and ice cold!),

Remember when swing made a comeback a couple years ago and all those swing clubs cropped up. That was a wild 3 weeks. I bet all those clubs are martini bars now-- at least until people realize that martinis taste like **** and the glass is really the best part.
I don't care what the "in thing" is. I know that I like swing and I like Martinis, so as long as my favorite station (RP of course!) has the swing, and my favorite bar has my favorite martini (what I call the Mugro, of course, made with Grey Goose mandarin vodka and a splash of Gran Marnier, and a slice of orange as garnish, shaken not stirred and ice cold!), then I could care less what everyone else thinks.
Gotta love a little SNZ!

Sadly, yes. The term "novelty act" is wrongly slapped on many multi-talented groups whose music may be jokey and eccentric.
these people are WAY too funny.....
This song was used to great effect in Contact, the Susan Stroman Broadway musical. When heard with the incredibly sexy, sensual and beautiful dancing of that show, the music was absolutely perfect.
Historically significant perhaps, but nothing that conjures up musical paradise to me. An early cartoon, perhaps. Dancing cigarettes and such nonsense.

I'm not sure why, but SNZ (and particularly this song) always sounds like a caricature of this sound, and not the real thing. It seems like they're trying too hard to sound like Billie, Cab, et al. Does anyone else feel that way, I wonder?
i have to agree. i can't hear them without wishing i was listening to the real thing. so, thanks, Bill, for putting some of the geniune stuff on next :)

I've never seen them, so no...it's not that.
Well that sure was fun !!!
Heavenly!!! Love it!!!
What a song. Gotta dance!

Martini's taste nothing like ****. Mine taste great. Can't beat incredibly cold Tanqueray and a hint of oil from the lemon peel. Yum.

has anyone heard the rumor that the SNZ female vocalist died? i thought i heard an interview with her on the radio recently, but maybe not...
is the chick in this band really a guy in drag or what?

Some musical genres just never go out of style.
Just awesome fun!
Anyone know if these guys are still together?
I\'ve always loved her crazy, quirky voice :)
What a fun song!
Their best CD to date, but still they\'re considered a novelty act by most people.
Is this not \'hit the road Jack\' with different lyrics?
These guys crack me up! Very original, very cool.
Thank you! More SNZ! Thanks again!
Please add The Ghost of Steven Foster to your playlist...killer song by the SQZs
Oh yeah, I agree! Colin James rules! Play any of his stuff!
Oh this is fab: and while you\'re in the mood for this sort of thing, Bill, play some of Colin James Little Big Band stuff. His version of Jackie Wilsons \"Baby Let\'s Shout\" swings hard.
Gotta love callouts from the horn section - great lick.
What a fun tune! :D
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
It\'s amazing how that female singer actually sounds like she\'s from the 30s.
Good song. Very fun. Perfect for occasional listening as is all of the zippers songs. Unfortunatly they get old very very fast.
Great choice. Proves the \"eclectic\" in your station masthead :) How about some Big Bad Voodoo Daddy as well?
"If it's good enough for granddad it's good enough for me"
How a bout some real oldies like Cab Calloway and Louis Jordan? Are you All Reet? But I still love da zippers too
This sucks like a black hole.
toe-tappin\' finger-snappin\' head-boppin\' sing-along fun!!
Verry nice. Good music.
I just discover, Thanks Bill to increase my music culture.
