Maybe I could be the one they adore
That could be my reputation
It's where I'm from that lets them think I'm a whore
I'm an educated virgin

Now sleepwalker don't be shy
Now don't open your eyes tonight
You'll be the one that defends my life
While I'm dead asleep dreaming

Cupid don't draw back your bow
Sam Cooke didn't know what I know
I'll never be your valentine
The sleepwalker in me
And God only know that I tried

Now Let me in, Let me drown or learn how to swim
Just don't leave me at the window
I could be the one to be your next best friend
You may need someone to hold you
Sleepwalker take this knife
You may see someone tonight
You'd be the one who saves my life
When I'm dead asleep dreaming

Cupid don't draw back your bow
Sam Cooke didn't know what I know
Never be your valentine
The sleepwalker in me
God only know that I tried

I'm in your movie and everyone looks sad
But I can hear your voice in the laughtrack
But you never saw my best scene
The one where I sleep
I sleepwalk into your dreams

Now sleepwalker what's my line?
Now it's only a matter of time
Until I learn to open up my eyes
When I'm dead asleep dreaming

Now cupid don't draw back your bow
Sam Cooke didn't know what I know
Never be your valentine
The sleepwalker in me
Now the sleepwalker in me
Now the sleepwalker in me
And God only knows that I've tried

great rocking track, big shadow cast but he (and the wallflowers) stepped out into the light with this track.
gets my foot tapping every time.
I like the wallflowers and hey Haters you know what Collie Buddz says - “Im blind to you”!
Pretty straight-forward rock here.  Not really great, not terrible.  It's a good foundational piece.  I'll take ten tracks like this over some whiny suburban white boy trying to sell me his take on the blues.
Bill G: GOAT DJ!!!

Just when you thought you could daja vu the set line up...he mixes it up and off you goooooo....

PRETTY MUCH.

amazing the people dissing the wallflowers. while they aren't groundbreakers, they make good music, better than a lot of the stuff coming out at the same time. AND they're distinctive, that accounts for something!

LOL. I agree 100%. Terrible stuff.
Catchy; I like it. Better vocalist than his old man although you can clearly hear Bob's legacy!

What an ignorant and worthless comment.  What have you done?  He wanted to make music.  He put it out there and people liked it.  What was he supposed to do, not make music?  Not all legendary offspring make it but he sure got further than most.

I'm going to assume that you don't think this was done by Bob Dylan and that you recognize that his SON is in The Wallflowers and is not yet particularly crazy or old. With all that in mind, your argument is still invalid.

This is a perfectly crafted pop/rock song that was just right for the times in which it was released and still sounds good to these ears.

Jakob has had to work harder due to the unmatchable legacy that his father is STILL leaving. This song, and others played here on RP, are great examples of how he has powered thru that obstacle to have his own successful career.

This crazy old jackass is looking forward to his next offering, either solo or with The Wallflowers.
Hey! It's growing on me 😀
Pride of London all of sudden sings a rebel song.Lucky the  rebel has a tendency to swoop down in the woods.

I have to say, of all the opinions about your opinion I've seen, yours is the most impressed.

Perhaps, but for better or worse, Tom Petty personifies "comfortable" music.

apsteinmetz, I thought the same about the opening chords and Tom Petty.....a good call.
Way too many Wallflowers songs being played here...
Finally a Dylan that can sing...but then he had to go and write these inane lyrics. Could have used his dad's lyrical sense and then this would have been a rather complete rock tune.
Good. Like a T.Petty sound.

The musical equivalent to very functional, comfortable furniture.
This song is a symbol to me of my Junior/Sophomore years of college (99-01). I'd moved from Kansas City to St. Joseph, MO, and all the great KC alternative stations that'd nutured me musically were changing formats even if they were a getting out of range up there. I was too poor by then to afford concerts like I'd used to do, and I'd not discover RP until later 2001. They were dark musical times where N'Sync and Brittney were taking over TRL every day and pushing out the last popular alt rock holdouts like Hole and the Goo Goo Dolls. But St. Joe's old standby for radio, K-JO (105.5, but then 105.1 still) was there. They've always been nominally a 'pop' station, but a little behind the times and with an odd slant. As Alt Rock was the outgoing popular style, it got play, but they did an odd way of keeping it 'current'. They played a lot of stuff from the Barenaked Ladies, REM, and the Wallflower that wasn't their 'normal' stuff; they played some bands that missed the heyday (Vertical Horrizon, Lifehouse) but could have been big. Looking back I really appreciate that good music, though at the time I bristled at it. And the more ecclectic, adult-contomporary slant of it probably even paved the way for me to more fully appreciate RP (which has been my main taste maker for 10 years now).
From father to sons: Bob Dylan -> Tom Petty -> Wallflowers.

I think Jakob did a solo album after this and now they're back together?  I always thought they were pretty good.

I feel the same way about them.  i swa them live a few month's prior to their second release and they were fantatstic.   On record they are very hit and miss for me.
Probably the band for whom my ratings are the most polar. I either love their stuff, or, well, the opposite {#Shifty}.

Love this one. 8

(Not my joke but thought I'd share anyway.)

You can't help but wonder if such a conversation took place.  During the interview part after his appearance on Austin City Limits, he didn't even mention Bob.  He talked about being a big fan of Joe Strummer when he was a teenager.

Reminded me of that "Doug" routine from The State:

Doug:  Whatever, dad, I'm not on drugs.  What do I look like, Bob Dylan?
Dad: Doug, do you even know who Bob Dylan is?
Doug: No... But I know he died from drugs!
Dad: Bob Dylan is alive and well, Doug, I produced his last three albums.
Doug: Oh, you mean Uncle Robert?  He's not dead!

Also, is it me or are the Wallflowers bordering on overplayed here on RP?  It seems like every day around this time there's something by them...

His voice kind of sounds like,,,help me out here,,old folk- singer,back in the hippie days,nah forget it!{#Eh}
Very nice composition, very well executed.

Nice segue from Elvis Costello!
Great band. It's been a long time since their last album, isn't it? Any news about them?
No, no, no. Not Tom Petty. Elvis Costello. That's funny that RP just played 13 Steps Down, and now they're playing this. Somebody's got a sense of humor.

Agreed! By the way, Sam Cooke's "Cupid" is one of the greatest songs ever recorded! The vocal is so pure it makes one weep!!!
sounds like his Dad channelling Tom Petty... still, I like it it's a catchy tune. Must be tough on a young guy in the industry with Dylan being your Dad. Pete Himmelman your brother-in-law... Geez, it's a wonder he doesn't just drive trucks for a living... all that talent scares the &%$# out of me...
some songs are always followed by the same other songs...

Song, "Cupid, Draw Back Your Bow"
I find these guys have a consistently good sound... but a little too consistent. This one reminds me a lot of 'God don't make Lonely Girls' off Bringing Down the Horse.
Thanks for the answers guys - I guess I never thought about "Cupid" by Cooke. Makes sense. quote="flandersdog wrote:

Actually, now that I know he's saying Sam Cooke, it makes sense... I could never tell who it was "didn't know what he knows"...
