Treated you like a rusty blade
A throwaway from an open grave
Cut you loose from a chain gang and let you go
And on the day you said it's true
Some love holds, some gets used
Tried to tell you I never knew it could be so sweet
Who could ever be so cruel?
Blame the devil for the things you do
It's such a selfish way to lose
The way you lose these wasted blues
These wasted Blues
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
When the moon is a counterfeit
Better find the one that fits
Better find the one that lights the way for you
When the road is full of nails
Garbage pails and darkened jails
And their tongues are full of heartless tales that drain on you
Who would ever notice you?
You fade into a shaded room
It's such a selfish way to lose
The way you lose these wasted blues
These wasted blues
Tell me that it's nobody's fault
Nobody's fault but my own
Tell me that it's nobody's fault

I wonder what the title of this song is? 😉
I'm sure this would be a popular choice for funerals

I left this song on too long... but it's nobody's fault, nobody's fault, nobody's fault but my own.
I loved the Odelay album in its entirety, then this song came after it and I was totally floored - so different to his output prior - probably my fave track of his - it's obviously not as 'fun' as much of his other work, but the quality... it's here in abundance.
I hear a Doors song from Apocalypse Now in the opening …
Damn, Beck is 51. I feel so old.
Beck is amazing… Can all the negative nobodies just fuck off already.
Excellent. I truly enjoy Beck since I "got into" his music thanks to RP.

And in the combination of all the 'borrowings' he creates something completely 'original' - I'll go +1 to 8 based on Fred's 'sounds-like' of a GREAT Doors track. Long Live RP and borrowing from previous artists!!

reminds me of Sufian Stevens, but without his tender voice
I remember buying this album at midnight the day it came out, the record store was open late because of a U2 (I think) album that was released the same day.

There is something special about Beck that always calls me to my PC to see who is performing. Again, a whole album of his stuff might bring me to edge of despair but, between other tracks, his music is often superb and always welcome. Thanks, RP.

First saw it in high school, right after I'd read (by coincidence) "Heart of Darkness". My two friends and I were late getting to the theater, so we had to sit in the very front row. We were so blown away we scrunched down at the end, avoided getting kicked out by the ushers, and watched it all the way through again.
For years afterwards, I'd come across people watching "Apocalypse Now" on a tape or DVD, persuade myself that I'd only watch the opening scene...and stay for the whole thing.
Saw "AN Redux" at the Uptown Theater in DC (huge curved screen for all you non-Washingtonians, the biggest commercial theater room in the city)...Have to say that Coppola largely made the right cuts to make the '79 version. The "Redux" scenes with the French holdouts were interesting but could have meant so much more...
Loved the Harrison Ford cameo. Star Wars had recently come out and we were all going "OMFG! It's Harrison Ford!! WTF is he doing in this?!? He looks so dweeby..."
AN and Bladerunner (which came out in '82) blew my mind and shaped my ideas about film for years.

I know what you mean. I think Tom Cruise is a great actor too. One thing that perplexes me more than anything is this group and how they attract the smart, talented people they do. But all religions do that. I am sure they really mean well. As an atheist, if a religious person pressed me hard with the question "OK, fine, then where do we find meaning in life?" then I have no rebuttal - I am a bit of an "existentialist" that way. But it is incumbent on these artists to address the many serious allegations made against the church.

Simply bad singing.
12 years ago. Since then, nothing really remarkable - just wasted blues. Whose fault?
As I've said before about Beck on another track listing...maturity is a good thing. Sounds like he's mastered it. Yep.
This and Sea Change are 2 of my fave Beck discs. He's at his best when he's doing this down-tempo melancholy stuff, IMO. I hope his best work is yet to come.
Nice!
Glad that that's over with. It was boring me to death.

This is an excellent piece...
... can be played by tuning guitar to CGCFAC - just like beck's 'round the bend. i think both have a 'lazy river' sort of feel - but the river may be the ganges for one and the mississippi for the other...

First listen, the entire CD, the night of the release, lots of wood in the fireplace, absinthe, morphine, giant mended titanium leg up in the air for six months. Breaking it was nobody's fault but my own.

I'm not a big Beck fan, either. This was actually quite pleasant for me, though. Caught an unplugged show from Toronto on TV around Christmas; he's more entertaining than I figured. Might buy a tune or two, but I'd never buy a CD, probably.

He hasn't commented since January 23, so I think he may be gone. Perhaps you got your wish. Personally, I enjoyed reading his comments, as comedy, and the responses he generated. Not that I agreed with much, if anything, that he said, but it was funny that it seemed to bother everyone so much, and he definately pointed out how much of a sense of humor people have seemed to have lost in this politically correct world. Maybe tounge in cheek just doesn't translate that well on the internet.
Wow. This really captures the feeling of being wasted and blue. Reminds me of dark times in years past.

You should look into Buddhism with the specific intent of learning how to not let people irritate you. Perhaps he provides an opportunity for you. You cannot change physicsgenius, nor can you get rid of him. So your choices are to be bothered by him or to change your mind's way of handling him. He's just another aspect of the weather. Does the weather make you angry?
