Lunatic fringe
I know you're out there
You're in hiding
And you hold your meetings
I can hear you coming
I know what you're after
We're wise to you this time (wise to you this time)
We won't let you kill the laughter

Lunatic fringe
In the twilight's last gleaming
But this is open season
But you won't get too far
'Cause you've got to blame someone
For your own confusion
We're on guard this time (on guard this time)
Against your final solution

We can hear you coming (we can hear you coming)
No, you're not going to win this time (not gonna win)
We can hear the footsteps (we can hear the footsteps)
Hey, out along the walkway (out along the walkway)

Lunatic fringe
We all know you're out there
Can you feel the resistance
Can you feel the thunder

“Lunatic Fringe in the twilights last gleaming” So tragic to see that 40 years later this “fringe” has been encouraged to go mainstream - all around the world. Resisting fascism is now an existential challenge we must win.
Such a great jam.
Very Pink Floyd - The Wall
Sounds liike MAGA theme song

Ahhh - my old college theme song...
It is amazing that a song called Lunatic Fringe INSTANTLY brings out just that in the comments.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.  Just ask Yeezy.

Not to be all contrary 3 years after the fact (which of course means that's what I'm going to do), but I'd vote White Hot as their most known song.  Lyrics about the poet Jean Rimbaud and his time as a gun runner  in Africa.  As rock n' roll poetry, pretty compelling.
Pinkish Floydish
I feel the resistance.
Great tune. Forgot all about this one .. it gets missed in compilations of the time, that's for sure. But should not. Aged quite well.

Now this is funny. You almost completely described the coalition of the Left who are pushing the climate hoax in order to control you. Nice! You're on the right track.

Plus this is still a great song.

EDIT:  I meant the big corporations in general, not the oil companies.  We are living in a worldwide corporatocracy that pulls the strings of almost all our world leaders at the moment. That's gonna have to change somehow.

Haven't they gone anti-paedophile now?

Now there's nothing defensible about these people but the accusation of pedophilia has a distinct advantage that it can be tossed around conveniently with little or no proof....

So does that mean that you think having a plan puts one on the lunatic fringe?  Get back to me when you're ready for an intelligent, non-hyperbolic debate about our collective planetary future.

Seriously, these folks absolutely h8 welfare.  Unless it is fossil fuel subsidies.  Why not let all technologies compete with no corporate welfare and with an eye to the future of the planet.  The die offs are happening all around us and the west is on fire AND running out of water at the same time.  I guess only a Lunatic would want to do anything about it.

xkolibuul about nails it, imho. One year later, after an endless series of super storms, droughts, fires, and floods--not to mention the Covid plague, I can't help but wonder whether jelgator's "two sides"are actually those who would attempt to destroy all life on the planet vs. those who would try to save what we can.

Message to jelgator and other climate change deniers: It has become painfully clear that we have to stop burning fossil fuels for energy. To sustain life on earth, we need a plan to transition to clean energy and conservation (of energy, of ecosystems). This won't happen overnight, but it must happen. The IPCC says we have about 8 years to get our act together.

Angry much? Nope. Here in my purple neighborhood we all stand a little different on issues, but guess what; a democrat can still borrow a lawnmower from his republican neighbor and vice versa. Yes, it's a tall order, but leave both the Woke PC idiots and the Trumper assholes behind and let's get shit done.

I agree that there should and can be more common ground.   But your post fails in this regard - the Woke PC idiots never had any real power and were never close to imposing their ideas on the country.  On the other hand the MAGA crowd came very close and is still threatening to impose the full wrath of their corruption on the rest of us.  Right now moderate Democrats are calling the tune.  Moderate elected republicans are an endangered species.

PC wokeness may exist in some corners, but is not a threat.  While fear of PC wokeness is ginned up by the right wing propaganda machine to divide us.
I wish they were back in hiding.

I was curious about which 'lunatic-fringe' the song writer was referring to.  There are plenty on both political sides. Might have been helpful to drop a few more hints in the song.
Amazing !!! Soundtrack in Miami Vice !!!!! Damned 80's!!!!!

I would like to say that I always thought that this song was from Blue Oyster Cult and
also
that it's ironic that Lunatic Fringe has generated the discussion that precedes this.

Besides, it seems more and more evident to me that the D vs R distinction is only there to keep the populace at each others' throats and not aimed at those "in charge."  I'm fully on the side of the PEOPLE.

It wouldn't eliminate air travel (or any of the other things you don't enumerate) - rather it would force the aviation industry to develop other fuels (hydrogen) or use other types of aircraft (airships etc.).

For those of you who think that this song applies to the current situation, it doesn't.

The lyrics clearly state:

"But you won't get too far
'Cause you've got to blame someone

We're on guard this time
Against your final solution.
We can hear you coming.

And obviously, they won.
At least this time.

I read somewhere that this was the only song ever used a second time in all the Miami Vice seasons. Not sure if that's high praise but it's a kickass song, especially as a few listener's have noted when cranked to 11 while unwinding down a midnight highway.
I heard Tom Cochrane play in little old Vernon, BC at the O'Keefe Ranch a dozen years ago or so.  Danced our asses off on a stubble field for his entire set, and got home looking like we had run through a dust bowl - black as night (it was nighttime), but with white toothy smiles that ran from ear to ear.  Live rock in its finest form!!
