The countryside is overgrown
There's a lighthouse in her soul
Wrestling with butcher girls
She don't ever change her clothes
Masterpieces liquidate in fertile tears
I could sleep inside her bones a hundred years
Lizards in the pressure zone
Mother knows it's only a phase
Cherry gardens feel like ice
Hazard lights from her past
Underneath the broken bridge
Hookers hug illegal dads
Masterpieces liquidate in fertile tears
I could sleep inside her bones a hundred years
Lizards in the pressure zone
Mother knows it's only a phase

Did Beck ever do ANOTHER album?

Good point.

Beatlesque.
Always a pleasure to here this guy. A little freak but man does he have talent. LOVE his stuff.

We are very fortunate to have Beck making music in this world.
I'm diggin' it.
excellent sound quilting,rp peeps! i've been listening for awhile and this is perfect music for a very snowy day!
Did Beck collaborate with the Art of Noise on this?

The only Beck I can stand is off of Sea Change... This is terrible.
Beck is fearlessly true to his visions. Who else could pull off flamenco, acoustic, DJ, rap, mariachi, punk, country, breakbeats and more from album to album with such variance. He represents our fine town and the mixed culture of Los Angeles and we are proud of him.
I like the way Beck takes music from all times and all genres, and synthesizes it into something completely his own. Familiar, original and brilliant pop sensibility.

By far my favorite Beck album. "Nicotine and Gravy" is an awesome tune.
You and me both, buddy. "Hollywood Freaks" is another stand-out song that's just too freakin' hilarious...and "Debra" of course.

Dang... I was all set to go to your playlist and have a little fun at your expense... but alas, it seems you have pretty good taste. OK, you have some "Doors" and "Dave Matthews" in the 10s and 9s, but really that can be forgiven for the "Wailin' Jennys," "Morphine," and "Sigur Ros."
But then... huh? What's "Beck" doing with a couple of "8s?" Were you drunk those days?
I have to agree, like or not he is totally innovative.

Whoa, that's out of left field. Are you sure you meant to post this in the comments for Beck?
One of the things that makes Beck so brilliant is his originality.

Well, I find it grating and annoying... 4 --> 3

Took me a while to figure out the album cover, though...

Very, very easily. In fact, I generally despise his music. Which makes a song of his I actually like (like, say, this one) sort of troubling. . . .
Come over to the dark side.....
Phage? Like a virion? Like the Andromeda Strain?
He IS saying,"...phage".

Wish he trip-hopped away.
Far away.

"It's only a Phage??"
That ain't good.

I have never been able to understand what people see in this guy. He does not have an original bone in his body. Edgy but inoffensive at the same time.

The music seems to rock, but his voice is beyond boring.

bucket full of blood, got you on my mind, gonna break my face on the sweet sunshine.
:)
Just beginning to be exposed to this guy, and I'm liking a whole lot of him, but not this. (Explanatory note: I'm old, and I'm in East Asia.)

Wow...time for me to start paying attention to THAT album, I guess...that song was great.
Sometimes I hear shades of Tone Loc in Becks tunes, what with the guitar samples... Just wanted to give some recognition to Ton...whatever happened to him?
My favorite Scientologist.
Sea Change is his best album

I want to plug Midnight Vultures... I feel like it's Beck's forgotten/underrated CD (except on RP, thankfully). There are many excellent tracks on it, and Beck does funkadelic so well. The tour for this album was pretty amazing, too. Very theatrical.
happy birthday, Beck! \:D/

Awesome. Midnight Vultures is a favorite.

Cool song
this is one of the most fun albums i own! i wish other artists weren't afraid to be sillysometimes...

Loooove Beck
Beck rules. His not the subject, he is the ruler. He rules.
Midnite Vultures is brilliant in every way (I say, objectively). As for Odelay, if you find you can't cozy up to it, well, it doesn't mean you're a bad person, or broken. Philistine.
i love beck. end of story.
Beck is gold, this song however is a shiny bronze: 6
beck is a wizard, mixing rock, folk, trip-hop, jazz and even a little classical into his music. he is to be enjoyed in the moment, disregarding all of your "preconceptions" of what music is supposed to be. this kid amazes me, and every time i hear something by him, i hear something different. pretty cool

Yum! Beck! This is a good one too, but from a weird record. Sea change is very good if you find him too bizarre. Midnight Vultures and Odelay are probably the toughest to cozy up to. Odelay does have some tuneful moments though.

Best delete bin gem I've ever found.
Cool! I like his style and his groove.
The unsheathing of the sword sample is so rarely used... It's a crying shame, really.
This isnt his best song, but Beck is great -- saw him in Santa Barbara June 26 2003 -- great show (a little bass-heavy, but still good).
Hmmm, wonder if Beck and Brian Eno have met?
I really like the groove of this one...
Just because it\'s Beck, doesn\'t make it cool. Yawn.
Beck.
Blecch.
Nice to hear some Beck here... - hope, I\'ll get some stuff from older albums into my ears here, too ;)...
Finally a Beck song that I can appreciate. I KNOW he\'s a genius and all, but I don\'t find many of his songs accessable and enjoyable. This one is.
big thumbs up to RP for adding some great new(er) Beck to the playlist. :D
and I must agree - his live shows are tremendously entertaining.
VERY entertaining live show. His whole band is as quirky as him (must be a prerequisite to join).
I thing Beck is great! Thanks RP.
Love everything the young man does. Brilliant musical mind. Should add \'Debra\' to the playlist.
He\'s a quirky little dude...some cool ideas, though
