Love Sam, but hadn't hear this before. The opening sounded like The Yardbird's "Heart Full Of Soul" from 1965!
Great musicians emulate other greats and make something amazing that stands on its own.
Yes! The main guitar riff for sure
Heart full of soul
Does anybody else hear incinerate by Sonic Youth?
Yes! The main guitar riff for sure
And there's a nice stereo separation on this.
I love this CD and actually OWN it......what a writer!
You actually own a cd from an artist that you enjoy...stfu...
Sorry, I can't stand her voice.
No need to be sorry. Her voice is one of things I really like about her music. I'm not sorry at all.
Fixed.
Exactly. It's especially annoying how the people posting the allegations seem to think that they're the only people who have ever heard of "Heartful Of Soul". As if T. Bone Burnett and Sam Phillips thought no one in the whole universe would notice and that their evil scheme was foiled by the non-musician, music-detectives here. It's an obvious nod to the riff in that song - other than that the chord progressions the songs are completely different.
Guitar work totally different.
...and what's funny is this wasn't even her big hit (which was "Baby I Can't Please You," from the same album).
I thought it was "I Need Love" which is why I bought the album. Hmm.

Word. My Man.
Blinding glimpse of the obvious...
A bit similar, yeah - but nothing that warrants losing your mind over.

RP...Bill please play this song back to back and you'll see what I mean.
Sam Phillips Same changes HARDLY very little change.
Credit where credit is due. Others have gone to court and wone with less.
Plagerizim worse than Melania Trump
Absolutely NO LIE, my man. Esp. the opening guitar riffs. I came to this page just to write that same comment. Bold-face ripoff!!

And yes, of course it's an homage, not a ripoff. This is T Bone Burnett we're talking about.
Would love to hear Stevie and Lindsey cover this!
That's an interesting idea: Stevie and Lindsey covering this song. I can kind of hear it.

Sounds like she has a "Heart Full of Soul"
Yeah, and not only did they rip off the riff they also ripped off the exact tone of the riff :^ /
i am now a Sam Phillips fan
Bill my wife thinks i have enough cd's already, can i blame you?
Like RP it's just a perfectly crafted, eclectic mix of tracks from different times and complimentary genres. Bill could play this soundtrack start to finish and it'd fit perfectly with everything else on here.
Excellent soundtrack, I agree. Difficult to find on CD. I still have the cassette tape, but no player

Now...that's a cool title and allows for a certain vision...
I've heard this song here several times (apparently without looking at the artist info), and always thought it was Fleetwood Mac... That said, I like this song a lot.
I love this song & I love FWM. But this is Cowboy Junkies,,, Yes?
I hear some Dixie Chicks in here, too.

After years of hearing this great piece here, I am a bit amused to see that this same observation keeps arising: It's a ripoff! Does this mean that every chord sequence that is not original represents a theft? Obviously, T Bone Burnett and crew were not attempting to put anything over on an audience. This album is also heavily Beatles-influenced. All this music is part of our collective aural DNA (not a reality I suppose, but maybe a suitable analogy) and themes repeat. Anyway, this is not a complete replication of the Yardbirds sound.

I'll 2nd that one!
and Heart Full of Soul.
It's true. Sam broke into the Museum of Rock n' Roll and smashed the glass case holding this riff. Interpol is on the case!
and Heart Full of Soul.
Heard this. Went to Amazon and bought it. No regrets.
Just my usual RP listening pattern.
Of all the possible bad habits, this is one of the least costly in so many ways.
Only drawback is finding shelf space for the CDs
Nice habit!!
In Germany.
Happy New Year.

My second thought was "What do you mean 'where did I hide the bodies?'. I don't know what you're talking about".
me too.
The guitar lick is from "Heart Full of Soul" by the Yardbirds.
Yes, just about everyone knows that; I don't think she was trying to deceive anyone.

Still Sweet !!
I heard Heart Full of Soul, too.
same.

Lol...hard to miss. Had me fooled.
Or the Heart Throbs (remember them?), RP apparently has but they're much better than this 1-hit wonder.
1-hit wonder? I wasn't aware Sam Phillips had any hits. I think of her as a consistently interesting and enjoyable artist, but not a hit-maker.
Sounds like Bad Fleetwood Mac. After the girls.

(yes, thats me in the middle)

Could not have said it better myself (and yeah, it was a glitch).

Hard to believe this was necessary to post 3 times...

Regardless of my previous comment.
The guitar lick is from "Heart Full of Soul" by the Yardbirds.
The voice works for me.
It has a rich, sensuous quality.
I still like it though.
based on all the other comments, I'm perfectly comfortable accepting that it's just me on this one...
but all I keep hearing with this track is bad 80's Stevie Nicks and her swirling gypsy skirts. I have a low Stevie Nicks tolerance.
I am with you 100% on this.
LOL!
This is a great tune.
(yes, thats me in the middle)
This is exactly the kind of comment I would expect from someone from Bangkok. My apologies to everyone from from that cool city.
