So take me down to the infirmary
Lay me down on cotton sheets
Put a damp cloth on my forehead
Lay me down, let me sleep
I know the whiskey, it won't soothe my soul
And the morphine won't heal my heart
But if you take me down to the infirmary, oh yeah
I won't have to sleep or drink alone
So, take me down to the infirmary
The walk a sound, it's as blue as her eyes
Oh, Sister Magdelene won't you fetch the doctor's flask?
He's gonna need a steady, a steady hand
I know the whiskey, it won't soothe my soul
And the morphine won't heal my heart
But if you take me down to the infirmary, oh yeah
I won't have to sleep or drink alone

Yeah, that happens once in a while when David Lowery is involved.
This evening, playing the role of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers will be Cracker. Please silence your electronic devices and enjoy the show.

I recognize that the internet is where hyperbole reigns, but you cannot seriously suggest that listening to this song is depression-inducing! It's a slow piece, but depressing? Hyperbolically so, then.
 oh yeah sing it..{#Yes}
Simply a great song.
Wow, how long it took me to get this songI suppose I was impatient, busy, jammed up with Life at the time. But later -- and now -- whoah!
Wow, seriously?  I give up.  Maybe I'll come back when I want to get depressed.
A great album - and I love this track's slow, evocative lollop. Has it really only been played three times in ten years?

A classic I will always love. Kerosene Hat is rock solid from start to finish. Except for the annoying string of 4 second tracks separating Eurotrash Girl from the rest of the CD.

Great lyric. I bought this album when it came out. I was underage at the time, but that line made me want to understand brown liquor.

Been there, done that.  More Cracker, please.
