It's interesting how pleasant their music is as long as there is no singing... I love this guitar air, this is excellent :)

Embarrassed that I have not connected properly with the Gipsys. Loads of talent. Supremo.

Arf! I get the picture (and the smells). I was recently in Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, which has a deserved rep as a 'new age' 'right-on' chi-chi town, where you've no problem getting tarot readings, reiki, 'holistic therapy', and any other highly expensive cobblers for the affluent middle-classes to waste their excess income on.
Come on Fred, it's not that bad.... more yuppie-fied than hippie-fied these days!

this makes me think of going on forced marches with my mom to new age shops in yuppie neighborhoods. They always smelled like strawberries or patchouli, contained lots of geodes and there was always a lady with long black hair with thick grey strands streaking down her back as she advised on which type of tarot cards would be best for a woman dealing with a man who just won't commit...

Jag, are you sure you're not thinking of someone else? Doesn't Jesse use guest vocalists? I don't think he sings.
Love the Gipsy Kings as long as they don't sing! Unfortunately, it seems every one of their CDs features only so many instrumentals like this. If you like this, may I recommend Ottmar Liebert? He knows better than to try to sing, unlike Jesse Cook who also falls into the Gipsy Kings camp (shut up, Jesse).
And not 100% in this vein, but I also recommend anything by Strunz & Farah.

more cowbell! we need more cowbell!
Flying down to Atlanta a couple of weeks ago, I had the great fortune to be seated next to Andre Reyes, one of the two co-founders of the Kings, and surrounded by the rest of the band. Between his bad English and my bad French, we managed an engaging conversation. I don't think there was a moment on the flight that someone wasn't singing. As we landed at Hartfield, they were whistling "La Marseillaise." Too funny.

I saw these guys live one time. Great show. I remember there were about 50 acoustic guitars and an equal amount of leather pants on stage.
Maybe they came up with the band name 'wood, leather and strings' in the early days, but thought better of it inindian wrote:
I'm pretty sure these Arles or nearby born guys are of Gypsy extraction and are related to the great Gypsy Flamenco guitarist Manitas De Plata born Ricardo Baliardo. Probably GKs Tonino Baliardo playing lead here. Their sound could be called affected coz it's not strictly Flamenco or gypsy but Rumba Catalana.
Thanks for this clarification. I don't care if someone is not playing 'pure anything.' I don't care if someone's music is 'derivative' (a common insult in this forum). As long as someone makes good quality music, that's all I care about.

Personally, I prefer Spanish pop singers like Rosanna and Rosario (at least their 1996/7 albums).

I prefer their stuff with vocals...this is too much guitar noodling for my taste...

muzak ,muzak muzak.......
These guys are smooooth.
Great CD...I've road tripped to the tip of Baja, back and all places in between so many times with this disc...takes me there every time!! ...outstanding!!!
Wow, this makes me realize I have to find my (older) GK CD and burn it into eyeToonz ASAP. These guys rocketh mightily.
Reminds me of The Mask of Zorro. Which is a good thing..
this makes me consummately happy.
This reminds me of the Spanish music my pretentious art teacher played for us in painting class when I was a kid. Except this is much better.
I used to play this late at night when I was a disc slinger. Good times.
If you like that, check out Ottmar Liebert "La Semana" reminds me alot of the Gipsy Kings and is all instrumental.
Do they have an entire instrumental album? I like it so much better like this.
Yes, this does sound very much like every other Gipsy Kings instrumental, but that doesn't strike me as a bad thing.
Where's the sangria?
This is lovely, energetic....makes me wanna dance! (preferably in southern Spain)

But Flamenco does... I have noticed a trend on RP music to play British, American, French filtered "Ethnic" music...Not that it is bad but so much of the real Ethnic music has been put on the side
Would love to hear Paco de Lucia, best living Flamenco Player
Not bad :)

I used to think their would-be flamenco sound would be despised from spanish people. Until I heard them, in the only café of a small village lost in the middle of Andalucia... They enjoy them there, actually. Surely their sound is not gipsian (?), but, undoubtedly sincerely, if not genuinly, spanish.
Personnaly, I love them. To be listened to while going on holidays to the seaside in Provence. :)
Sentimentality with a driving pulse. Love this.

Well, maybe he was overwhelmed by his misspelling of pedantic and forgot to do a background check on his info, or would that be too pedantic of me to point out....

Totally aggree. Got to see them in a small club in Bethesda. Awesome. I am clapping my hands above and to the side of my head and stamping my feet as we speak.
this song sounds a LOT like Jesse Cook\'s music. Hmm...
From my perspective, every time I hear the Gipsy Kings, it sounds like the same song!
I admit that I may, in fact, be hearing the same song every time, since I don\'t pay that much attention. However, it\'s almost a joke at this point. They all sound the same! Am I cursed to hear the same Gipsy Kings song over and over and over or are their songs so similar to each other?
Mmmmmm...feels like a vacation on the beach.
Every time I hear the Gypsy Kings, all I can think of is their cover of \"Hotel California\" from \"The Big Lebowski\".
8 year olds, dude.

Obviously, for some people, the only proper guitarsound is distortion, or something.
In fact, this sort of guitarplaying is much heavier!
