Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you
Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you

So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world

I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it ?
Everybody wants to rule the world

All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

The thing about Tears for Fears is that they really knew how to swing.  And I don't mean swap car keys either.

They really had the knack of creating songs that captured a specific time - get transported there every time I hear a handful of their tracks - cheers! 🍻
This came just at the right moment wenn I needed it most. Thank you B&R!

music good - Roland looks like a bloodhound now .... sorry, needed to be said..
MORE of these guys, LESS of Talking Heads, Tom Petty.   Gracias!
Great! Brings back memories!

Such unabashed exuberance should always and everywhere be worshipped and celebrated with all justifiable amplitude, Amen!

Singer Joe Strummer told an interesting story to Musician magazine in 1988 about how he proved that popular 1980s group Tears for Fears stole a line from "Charlie Don't Surf" for the title of their hit "Everybody Wants To Rule The World <https://www.songfacts.com/facts/tears-for-fears/everybody-wants-to-rule-the-world>." He was apparently in a restaurant and saw Roland Orzabal, lead songwriter for Tears for Fears, and told him that "you owe me a fiver," explaining that the name of their hit song was an exact lift of the first line of the middle eight in "Charlie Don't Surf." According to Strummer, Orzabal simply reached into his pocket and gave him a five pound note, effectively admitting that this had been the case.

This explains my ignorance as a 'climate denier' if you can be bothered to do some research as opposed to listening to mainstream media and what they would like you to think.

I have done the research and it is absolutely, totally clear that climate change or global warming or whatever it is that is being peddled for your control and money is utter bunkum.

Thank you.

Peace.

I think you mean you'll "bite".
Fidelity Investments has an ad in heavy rotation that uses this song as its background soundtrack. I wonder if they considered the irony of the lyrics?

Not my favorite Tears for Fears tune.
I still give it a low 8.

The guy on the left of the album cover reminds of the Jon Crier character, Duckie, in  "Pretty in Pink" from that same era.

There was a lot of crap music in the 80's, from a lot of crap bands.
This is definitely NOT in that category.

I had the good fortune to see them in concert this year in Tel Aviv and they put on a fantastic show, even better than when I saw them 25 years ago at Wembley on the Sowing the Seeds tour. Great choons.

This is one of the few 80s bands that I actually appreciate MORE than I did in the 80s. Very tight musicians who play as well or better live as they do in studio.

In addition, most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position. The following is a partial list of these organizations, along with links to their published statements and a selection of related resources.

 AMERICAN SCIENTIFIC SOCIETIES

Statement on climate change from 18 scientific associations

"Observations throughout the world make it clear that climate change is occurring, and rigorous scientific research demonstrates that the greenhouse gases emitted by human activities are the primary driver." (2009)2

SCIENCE ACADEMIES
International academies: Joint statement

"Climate change is real. There will always be uncertainty in understanding a system as complex as the world’s climate. However there is now strong evidence that significant global warming is occurring. The evidence comes from direct measurements of rising surface air temperatures and subsurface ocean temperatures and from phenomena such as increases in average global sea levels, retreating glaciers, and changes to many physical and biological systems. It is likely that most of the warming in recent decades can be attributed to human activities (IPCC 2001)." (2005, 11 international science academies)10

INTERGOVERNMENTAL BODIES

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
“Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and since the 1950s, many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia. The atmosphere and ocean have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen.”13

“Human influence on the climate system is clear, and recent anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases are the highest in history. Recent climate changes have had widespread impacts on human and natural systems.”14

Except that the last several months have been hotter than the ones before them, this July (2016) being the hottest month on record...ever. Apparently Mann hasn't been paying attention lately.

Exxon knew about man-made global warming in the late 70's/early 80's from their own research but covered it up, actively lied about it, and paid outside scientists and groups to lie for years. Last I heard Exxon was being prosecuted for it.

Warming is not from sunspots, changing magnetic fields, natural climate cycles, the Four Horsemen riding, or any of the other hare-brained excuses invented by deniers. It's from human activity and burning fossil fuels for the last 150 years, and it has finally caught up with us. We live in a greenhouse that we've heated and is now out of control.

Deniers are some of the most gullible, stupid people I've ever seen. Next, they'll be telling us that water is not wet and the sun doesn't rise in the east - that it's all a plot to stifle free thought and get more taxes.

Both guitar solos on this song are amazing.  They are original, fit the song perfectly, and add to the song's flow, rather than saying, "Look at me!  I'm a guitar solo!"

Well done, Roland and Neil!

Snowden's whistleblowing gives us the possibility to roll back a key part of what has amounted to an "executive coup" against the US constitution.

Since 9/11, there has been, at first secretly but increasingly openly, a revocation of the bill of rights for which this country fought over 200 years ago. In particular, the fourth and fifth amendments of the US constitution, which safeguard citizens from unwarranted intrusion by the government into their private lives, have been virtually suspended...

One of my favorite albums of the 80s. Lots of memories of me. and others, as young.
This is great, thanks Bill, but there is a lot of other stuff in their discography that we should hear - Raoul & the Kings, and from Elemental, many directions, many mixes. Oh, and I still remember, me about 13 years old, observing some high-schooler blasting another TFF song on a bona fide boom box: jean jacket, bleached hair, biker boots. A bit of an art-geek/bad-boy mashup still memorable...
