I dont know why, I love ya like I do,
(with) all the changes, you put me through,
Take my money, my cigarretes,
I haven't seen the worst of it yet,
I wanna know, can you tell me?
Id really love to stay...
Take me to the river,
Drop me in the water,
Take me to the river,
Dip me in the water,
(Washing me down, washing me down, washing me down, washing me down)
I don't know why you treat me so bad,
Think of all the things, that we could have had,
Love is a notion, and I cant forget, (aahhh)
My sweet sixteen, I'll never regret
I wanna know, can you tell me?
Id really love to stay...
Take me to the river,
Drop me in the water,
Take me to the river,
Dip me in the water,
Love me, squeeze me,
Love me, tease me,
Till i can't, till i can't, till i can't, till i can't.....
I don't know why, I love ya like I do,
All the trouble, you put me through,
Sixteen candles, blowing on the wall,
And here I am, the biggest fool of all
I wanna know, can you tell me?
Id really love to stay...
Take me to the river,
Drop me in the water, (come on, come on, come on)
Dip me in the water, (oh yeah, you got to take me)
Drop me in the river, (in the river, come on)
Dip me in the water, (now take me in the water, yeah)
Drop me in the river, (you got to drop me in the river, come on, come on)
Push me in the water, (push me in the water now, come on)
Drop me in the river,
(with) all the changes, you put me through,
Take my money, my cigarretes,
I haven't seen the worst of it yet,
I wanna know, can you tell me?
Id really love to stay...

This is one of those songs that never needed a cover version (well except for Talking Heads' amazing cover), but I have to say Annie Lennox did well here. Definitely has the mood of the original.
certainly like this more than most who commented before me but since it has been so long will say her voice is amazing. agree other covers are far superior and this does not showcase her incredible talent
Can we ger another 18 years before we have to hear this again?
I\'m sorry, but the Al Green and Talking Heads versions of this song are just too good to be ruined by this cover
No one is better than Annie Lennox at covering a classic and stripping it of all emotion and musical relevance thereby creating deadweight. As a prime example, this performance lacks \"truth\".
Small historical point: Al Green did the original. Heads comped him. Still, Tina Weymouth\'s bass line is all time. ;)
One word: muzak.

Love Annie, but why mess with perfection? This cover blows.

Ferget the natter nabobs of negativism, that version is Righteous!
wonder what the food tasted like after that. No seconds of this song, thanks.
Rumour has it, Jeff Buckley took himself to the River and dropped himself in the water after hearing this version.
I dont like this version. Who did the other one?

Well said.
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. How could they? This is the scrapings of the barrel version. I must upload the Al Green classic.

Nah, it levels out after a while.

BTW, I don't think this is a TH-original, but a much older soul-song, (Checks on "Commitments" CD) by Al green & Mabon Hodges, apparently.

Annie has always been too KEWL for words.
Annie Lenox is a notion I\'ll soon forget, given the chance.
