Here shall we live in this terrible town
Where the price for our eyes shall squeeze them tight like a fist
And the walls shall have eyes
And the doors shall have ears
But we'll dance in the dark
And they'll play with our lives

Like a Slow Burn
Leading us on and on and on
Like a Slow Burn
Turning us round and round and round

But who are we
So small in times such as these
Slow Burn
Slow Burn

Oh, these are the days
These are the strangest of all
These are the nights
These are the darkest to fall

But who knows?
Echoes in tenement halls
Who knows?
Though the years snare them all

Like a Slow Burn
Leading us on and on and on
Like a Slow Burn
Twirling us round and round and upside down

There's fear overhead
There's fear overground
Slow Burn
Slow Burn

Like a Slow Burn
Leading us on and on and on
Like a Slow Burn
Turning us round and round and round

And here are we
At the center of it all
Slow Burn
Slow Burn
Slow Burn

Sadly that just isn't saying much.

So much Bowie. Too much Bowie.

Way too much Bowie and this awful song

Yawn.{#Meditate}
So much Bowie. Too much Bowie.
Bowie really has his classic vibrato and falsetto in fine form - very dramatic.
So nice to hear something from this underplayed Bowie album.
The Heathen is by far my favorite recent Bowie work - I can listen to that CD over and over.

Even after hearing this song many many times since its release, it is still FABULOUS! Especially Townshend's outstanding guitar work, which reminds me of the great licks the late great SRV gave to Bowie's "Putting Out Fire with Gasoline (Cat People)". The whole Heathen album is tremendous, and comes damn close to his 70's classics.

Bowie's expression on the cover of this album is the one that this listener has as a reaction to this piece of music.
Blaster-Piece!
Quite odd....  I like most of Bowie's stuff, and wow, I like this too!
This is pretty awful, even for David Bowie...

I don't... and don't!  {#Roflol}

Respect to David Bowie, but this song is like listening to howling wolves.

Oh, no it's not.  That's one of the most hauntingly beautiful and musical sounds on the planet, that howling of wolves.

In which Bowie imitates Jeff Buckley . . .

And utterly nails the part about unlistenable vocal hyperbole.

(I realize that that may be chronologically impossible.  I don't care.)
Funny. I don't like Bowie but I like this.
This album seems to have escaped my attention; and based on this song, I'm pleased about that.

Now that's three crappy DJ Mixes you've played in row.  I thought your standards were higher than that.  I see another DJ mix coming on.  I guess it's time to find another station to listen to.  I've been a loyal listener for years now because you didn't play this shit.  I can't believe the arrogance of these DJ's to think that they can improve apon a class

Don't slam your keyboard on the way out.

Nobody else can make anxiety sound so appealing.

Someone once told me he could listen to Bowie sing the dictionary.
I LOVE this song! I LOVE David Bowie! He was the best, then came some years when he wasn't, but now he is again and he will ever be.

Completely agree. This one to me seems to be neither as bad nor as good as other commentators think. BTW: Bowie gave an hour long interview around his 50th birthday several years ago. IFC played it several times. It's called "Earthling: Bowie at 50" (or something very close to that) and it's great if you can get past the annoying tricks the director/interviewer put into it. Bowie shines and shows why he's held a lot lot lot of public interest for 30+ years.
Respect to David Bowie, but this song is like listening to howling wolves.
I agree with Stinky and BigCalm ... Play "Putting Out Fire" from the soundtrack "Cat People".
irregardless of his motivation- artistic, capitalistic or otherwise... you can count on one hand single artists who have cranked out a greater variety and volume of music over the past twenty. i'm no great fan of any one release after "station to station", but i recognize the creative energy that brought forth all the music since.
I've said before, I'll say it again...AARRGGHH!!! BLECHH!!
He has his moments.... this isn't one of them

DB left most of his creative genius at the door of the studio for this album...my take
I don't care for the song but it's nice to hear Pete Townshend rippin' it on electric again.
Slow death?

do luv bowie and have this cd, but ziggy it\'s not
even less than a zero. ARRGH!!! I think Bill has this in rotation just to taunt us. :(
I am not crazy about Heathen, in general.
I adore Bowie, but this is not one of his best. My favorite album is Scary Monsters, followed closely by the truly scary Outside and the one nobody else seems to like, Black Tie White Noise.
Fantastic stuff from a great new album, lets hear more songs from this album tho...
Definitely overplayed and not that good to begin with.
I didn't like this song at first then I started to like it and then realized that it was being drummed into my head and I really didn't like it at all I was just familiar with it and if I had listened to it as if for the first I would be right back to not liking it...slow burn indeed...
Horrible, absolutely horrible.
BOWIE =
This is absolute Drek!!!
I love old Bowie, but never could get into his later stuff. But this new album is pretty darn good. That\'s Pete Townshend on guitar on this song.
Some of the better Bowie to come out in a while.

Ditto. It's got that dark smile quality. Tony Visconti ain't no slouch, either. Bowie looks like the ol' Thin White Duke on the cover. Over age 50 and still has excellent vocal control & expression.
Don\'t ask me why... But I think that David Bowie and Tim Curry are some of the most sexy men ever. I know! It\'s weird! ;)
Bowie, can\'t be beat in his league and many others. Love it.
that's the point
