When you're alone
Unplug the tv
Turn off your phone
Get heavy on with digging your ditch
Cause I'm diggin a ditch
Black as coal
Digging a ditch
My soul
Digging a ditch
Where madness gives
Oh digging a ditch
Where silence lives in it
And where all these worries
Weigh down on me will rise
Where all these troubles
That weigh heavy on our hearts
Will die
Will die
Will die
Run to your dreaming when your alone
Turn off the tv
And unplug your phone
Get heavy on with digging your ditch
Cause I'm
Digging a ditch
Where madness gives a bit
Digging a ditch
Where silence lives in it
Digging a ditch
When I'm through
Oh digging this ditch
I dig in for you
Where all these worries
That weigh down on me
Will die
Will die
Will die
Run to your dreaming
When your alone
Turn off the tv
Turn off your phone
Get heavy on with
Digging your ditch
Run to your dreaming
When you're alone
Unplug the tv
Turn off your phone
CRANK UP RADIO PARADISE
I am not a huge DMB fan, but it does bug me whenever I read comments on any of his songs here on RP. It's equivalent to grade school bullying the way so many listeners feel the need to rush to the comment section whenever they hear a DMB song just to comment on their hate for this man's music. I'm giving this song a 9 for that reason.
I'm not a big DMB fan either, but I think this track is a standout, and I also have it a 9 for that reason.
Or, OR!... hear me out now... it might be possible that we just don't have the same musical likes and dislikes that you do. Preposterous, I know.
Are we talking dislikes or h8? These are two different things.
I know DMB fans say that is the point, but it's something I find annoying. I like many jam bands with long solos and improve, but getting me out of my groove? Not happenin'.
DMB is all groove. I will not speak for all of their songs but, the ones that I know (and I know many), always return to the original groove. I submit that you may have been tuning out early as is your right, but that your assertion is incorrect.
LOL...I thought the same thing, and was going to double my 3 rating and decided to go with the double + 1 to match your 7. Long Live RP and liking songs you didn't before!!
Uh oh. 2002. He may no longer be taking input on this song.
That said, I overcame technical obstacles to find this pages and rate this song highly.

Or, OR! hear me out now... it might be that the OP took exception to the h8, not your likes and dislikes. Obvious, I know.
Imagine my surprise.
Sooooo what. It's art and some people don't like certain art for various reasons.
It's like he's trying out scat singing for the first time.
It's more like he has his own singing style, loved by millions, and you're just not into it.

Now that's just crazy talk.
Goofy oddball. . . guilty as charged! "Hater", not so much.
I cannot speak to be weened too early as that was 65 years ago. However, I can speak to the fact that I do not care for DMB. It does not makes me a Philistine.

I just might have to go see the DMB digging a ditch when they hit Vancouver on September 1st. Been a very long time since they have played here.

Agreed. I prefer most of the Lillywhite songs to the official versions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lillywhite_Sessions

self indulgent annoying prat

When are some people going to wake up to the fact that to millions of us, Dave Matthews cannot be overrated?
Digging a ditch....I dig your digging DAVE. Love you.
This song, though, now that I've listened to it all the way through is pretty good....

bringing consciousness about this world to light is never overrated. love you dave.

Not what you should be or what you've become
Just get heavy on with digging your ditch
I couldn't agree more with these sentiments. Being a big DMB fan it has been difficult to attend shows in the past due to the antics of the "fans". However, the knuckle-headed frat-boy jackasses that attended DMB shows in the early aughts have been forced to grow up, get jobs, and become reasonably decent productive citizens. You might find the crowd more palatable and easy to get along with now... and the shows are as good as ever.

I love seeing them live, but there studio stuff just never does it for me
Hate his fans, can't go to shows without fear of being assulted.
Just like the Philadelphia Phillies.
And yes, just because a group gets played on the radio does not negate their talent!!!
Yes, it is basically the Lillywhite Sessions, with some different or enhanced arrangements. JTR, a great song that they did live for awhile, and a few others did not end up on Busted Stuff. I'd add that I liked the version of Digging a Ditch better on the Lillywhites. The sax/violin part was more prominent and lilting.

really? I'm not a big fan only because I never really gave him a chance and never saw him.... assaulted? his fans seem nice enough?
I will also give this monotone droning a one and always hit the mute button.
Let your heart be at peace.
Watch the turmoil of beings,
but contemplate their return.
Each separate being in the universe
returns to the common source.
Returning to the source is serenity.
If you don't realize the source,
you stumble in confusion and sorrow.
When you realize where you come from,
you naturally become tolerant,
disinterested, amused,
kindhearted as a grandmother,
dignified as a king.
Immersed in the wonder of the (INSERT BELIEF HERE) Tao,
you can deal with whatever life brings you,
and when death comes, you are ready.
Could not agree more. My appreciation now grows daily, funny/sad/interesting how that happens.
Good players —- Carter Beauford is one of the best.
Live, the audience is 75 per cent women, whatever that means.
The problem with this band is a shortage of good songs.
That said, this one isn't bad at all.
6.
Exactly....not enough good songs, but i like this, kind of bluesy
Hate his fans, can't go to shows without fear of being assulted.
Maybe we bury u in the ditch. LOL
don't think so.
Do think so.
What in the world are you talking about? If anything, this is the antithesis of cheese IMHO.
Absolutely correct.
