On my way up north, up on the Ventura
I pulled back the hood and I was talking to you
And I knew then it would be a life long thing
But I didn't know that we, we could break a silver lining

And I'm so sad
Like a good book I can't put this day back
A sorta fairytale with you
A sorta fairytale with you

Things you said that day up on the 101
The girl had come undone, I tried to downplay it
With a bet about us, you said that you'd take it
As long as I could, I could not erase it

And I'm so sad
Like a good book I can't put this day back
A sorta fairytale with you
A sorta fairytale with you

And I ride along side
And I rode along side you then
And I rode along side
Till you lost me there in the open road
And I rode along side
Till the honey spread itself so thin
For me to break your bread
For me to take your word
I had to steal it

And I'm so sad
Like a good book I can't put this day back
A sorta fairytale with you
A sorta fairytale with you
I could pick back up whenever I feel

Down New Mexico way
Something about the open road
I knew that he was
Looking for some Indian blood
And find a little in you
Find a little in me
We may be on this road
But we're just impostors in this country you know
So we go along and we said we'd fake it
Feel better with Oliver Stone
Till I almost smacked him
Seemed right that night
I don't know what takes hold
Out there in the desert cold
These guys think they must
Try and just get over on us

And I'm so sad
like a good book I can't put this day back
A sorta fairytale with you
A sorta fairytale with you

And I was riding by
Riding along side
For a while till you lost me
And I was riding by
Riding along till you lost me
Till you lost me in the rear view
You lost me I said

Way up north I took my day
All in all was a pretty nice day
And I put the hood right back where
You could taste heaven perfectly
Feel out the summer breeze
Didn't know when we'd be back
And I, I don't, didn't think
We'd end up like, like this

Tori never misses

Cheers to Radio Paradise for helping on that one
LOVE Tori, WHAT A TALENT!
No slouch Miss Amos.

Can't have musical insubordination. No pudding for you.

Our wedding song
Honestly it seems to me that the best post-2000 albums are from the 2000s
Lovely - not hear this in ages.  Turns out.......she (Tori) only lives about 10 miles down the road from where I've moved to in North Devon/Cornwall (UK)

Love this song.  Pure bliss.

But your reply was sharp.
Hats off to TA. This is the second song I've heard of hers that I actually do like. Not as shrill as others...nice arrangement, production and performance!

It requires a sharp wit to appreciate. But it struck a chord with me.

It's not, she has a handful of musical tricks. But if it were, it might be well founded.

So THAT'S why this is the first Tori Amos song I've actually liked. Cool!

I feel like Tori Amos is good music to have on in the background
when you're doing the housework. I don't mean that in a bad way.

Always been a Tori fan!

it's taken me a long time to come around to Tori, but I have. on the surface a lot of the songs kinda sound alike - there's this thing in my head that pops up and says "there's another Tori song" - but the more I listen to it, it's... complex, and soothing.
This is about the only song I like by her, but in general too much Tori is played on RP.  It feels like the Tori Amos pandora playlist.  Lots of skipping when she's on.

Ah, I thought she sang, 'it's a soda fairytale'...

There is a real continuum to Tori's albums.  This is one her best  besides Boys for Pele.   Some of her albums don't really roll from start to finish and she was never the type of musician to release "SINGLE HITS" to promote her albums.  Either you were into the whole album or not.
SO,    when you play a track like this  you  might think   "EH!"  but listening to single tracks  takes her work out of context.....for this album especially.
A.M.O.S. = A Mediocre Overrated Singer?
I so don't want to like Tori Amos. I saw one of her videos once, and she was SO dramatic and over-the-top. Just not my cup of tea.

But I do so like Tori Amos.

Spine-tingling.
A sorta thang that makes me yawn.
Nice story, Tori.
quite excellent artist
Like the whole album. Most of her stuff just plain annoys me, but this is just really good.
Good book.
Inspiring....
Zomg...a Tori Amos song thatI actually liked. The sky is falling.

I totally agree with your assesment. Fortunately, I discovered the magic behind her music with Little Earthquakes. It waned a little for me in recent years, but I'm still a fan. A Sorta Fairytale is one of my personal favorites though (including the sleeve cover).

Had the wedding dance on this song :)
where ya goin in that sunday dress girl? {#Smile}
man, incredible; a TA song that doesn't annoy the f out of me, this one is actually quite bearable, maybe because it's not whining about something or other as much..
Love long-scale bass here.

Agree with this, but don't like her work normally.  I'd like her to do more restrained stuff like this more often.  This is very enjoyable to my ears.

I see the title says 'sorta' but at times Tori sounds she's saying 'soda' or 'sordid'.  Kinda' changes the meaning ...
Most mediocre overplayed artist on RP.
More like a sorta crappy song.  Only a 2 from me
This moves me.

She's good when she doesn't try too hard to be quirky.
I'm iffy on this girl, but I quite like this one, it has very nice balance
The goosebumps emoticon should be invented for this song!
Too much estrogen.

She is one of those artists I've never listened to much, but this song is making me think I should investigate further. This is very nice.

Most Soothing.
I love this song, and I love Tori.

Everybody in my church loves this song...

Beautiful!
It's a pity she doesn't compose such beautiful things anymore these days....
In just a few minutes, this song grew on me, going from 'nice' to 'wow, I want this to go on'!
Upgrading from initial 7 to 8.

Exceptionally good music the past 100 minutes.

COMPLIMENT RP!

Not a huge Tori fan, I find her voice can be a little grating, but I really like the performance more than the song. The way she interleaves the harmonies on several of her songs is very nice. A lot like some of Joni Mitchell's earler work but not as pop. Hard to articulate I guess. A little "muzacy" but not in a bad way.
love love love it. warms the heart. :o)
Wow, the same Tori song twice in the same hour!

I prefer to listen to songs that aren't performed by Tori Amos.

Still, I'm just happy it's not that g-d Morphine song.

Same 3 in a row after an hour?

Logged onto RP to donate, but then this song started playing and thought better of it.
Just kidding, going to donate.
Love her, or not love her—this is a beautiful song!
There is no rational reason for my comment, but I cannot stand Tori.  I like pretty much any artist at some point. I liked her years ago, but for some reason she grates on my nerves now.
Nice surprise to hear my favorite artist this morning on your show! Thank you!
Thank you Bill, for playing this beautiful song, and thanks to whoever uploaded it.

I am drastically ambivalent about Tori. When I can stand her at all, I adore her.  {#Ask}
I AM AMAZED.... this Tori song doesn't suck
J'adore Tori
Tori is one of those artists who get a lot of hate on RP. I've always loved her. This is probably my favorite song of hers.

finally, a sane voice.....after all these years I'm going to change my rating from 9 to 8.   Just to see if it matters.

The lyrics alone.......... and then the melody.  I have always loved this song.  Thanks Bill.
one of those songs that immediately puts me in a time and place (winter walks with the discman in point pleasant park).

I have seen Tori 7 times, loved every show. Love Tori!

Looks like they found it on a Tori Amos fan site.  The artist's name is credited as Paulina Stuckey, and there's a link to her website from there.

*Shudder*

Ah, it's the Tori Amos classic "A Soda Fairytale".

Saw her last summer in Toronto, dragged along by my adult daughter. My gosh, the 'sound' is remarkable. She came out with only a drummer and a guitarist/jack-of-all-trades dude; her keyboards were arranged in the centre of the stage - about six of them. Really, it was something. Powerful. Completely be-dazzled me that night.
didn't she become more mainstream over the years? the song is great but i miss her screams...

Nice tune!  Some of the melody reminds me of "Pass (past?) the Mission."
A particularly great Tori song.

One of the best songs of all time.

what ever happened to the old music video of this song, the one with her and an older gentleman?? I liked it better than the
weird version they have out now.
This song fits today right now for me perfectly...
