Only here at Paradise. {#Mrgreen}
Not radiant. Not beautiful. Not even great. Just nice. I wonder how that worked for him? Just kidding. It's nice to see the Samples get a 7 rating. These guys were a great bar band.

Ok Ok since you ask I'll tell you the story. I saw them in Fort Collins in a bar and it was a fun time. At one point the lead guy called out to the crowd asking for somebody who's birthday was that day. He called out for somebody a few times, then he offered a free shot of vodka to whoever had a birthday that night. That was enough for me. I jumped on the stage. He clapped me on the back, wished me a happy birthday, and handed me the shot. He covered said under his breath, "Sorry, that isn't really vodka." I laughed and muttered, "That's ok, it's not really my birthday," slammed the "shot," and jumped back into the crowd.

Ah the glory days. Gather 'round and I'll tell next about the the time I almost won the potato sack race.

How very jolly
Perfect music for a perfect East coast, 80 and sunny day!
I always think this is the Police at first when it starts playing. Great 'ol urine Samples tune ...
Pure The Police. I think they should be arrested!
One of the first songs I heard on RP back in the day.

Great band, I would have never heard of them otherwise. Thanks, guys!
I got into them after college when I was finally able to hang out with some Phish head type folks. I'm sad I didn't know them before that.  Such beautiful, upbeat music sometimes with a melancholy edge.  Love Sean Kelly's voice.
{#Dancingbanana}
Love it. These guys were great live. PLEASE play "Buffalo Herds and Windmills". My favorite Samples song!

          (The Samples)

The vocals remind me of The Outfield. Nice ...{#Music}
I wanna go back to college, re-live it all, hit the Samples show again we saw in Milwaukee !{#Group-hug}

Dat compin' is way cool, mon,. to this paleskin {#Lol}

I like this. It reminds me of Big Country.

And a fond farewell to the Samples... https://www.underwaterpeople.net/page/Site+News It was a good run!

Yes, I'd almost swear that's Sting singing...

This is different and I like it. Look forward to hearing other tracks.

for a second I thought I heard John Cale's viola part in "Venus and Furs" on this song
Their first CD, if it's still available, is very good.

That's Ziggy M. > but this is without soul. Man these guys are white
The singer sounds like Randy Bachman,not really the Bachman skill set you want.

If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it. Great show.

DAIMN! I haven't heard this one in a darn long time! Reminds me of college. My rating is biased due to that reminiscing. It's not really such a great tune...decent, though.
So bummed I missed it! One of favorites.
Hmm, different version of this song? Don't like it as much as the 'updated' version on Outpost. Yeah, they sound at times a bit like the Police, and they hold promise, but I've found much of their stuff to get lost in pop fluff...
until I looked at the playlist I thought this was a recently unearthed and unreleased Police song...wonder if the singer gets sick of hearing that he sounds like Sting?
Not by coincidence played after Sting! Great sound and production and very musical, but it hasn't quite got Sting's/The Police' song quality and playfullness. Hard, if not impossible to follow such an example!
Saw these guys at a free concert at Copley square in Boston – ahhh, summertime with Lisa, what memories....oh, and good song and fun band too...
DMB used to open for these guys. nice.
I saw about my 20th Samples show last night at the Field Museum in Chicago. After all these years and numerous lineup changes they can still rip it.
This is how I will always remember the Samples.

yes! the perfect song for finishing my finance homework! more samps please!!!

Funny you should say that. These guys opened for Sting when I saw him in Denver several years ago. They were a more memorable performance than the man himself on that tour.

Yet not at all! I posted on this the last time i heard it on RP; it makes my afternoon again! :mrgreen:

Hooray - Didja! I second the more Samples plea! :music:
very nice. more samples please.
Interesting - I noticed your location and, oddly enough, I saw them most recently in KC (can't recall the name of the club though - time before that was @ the Hurricane - which is also odd, being that I live in Miami!). (Oh yeah - the explaination - I have family in the area - I schedule my trips up there around Samples (and other) tour dates). They're pretty laid back guys. No egos or anything like that. They take the time to hang out with the fans and chat, which makes them top notch in my book. Unfortunately, they only rarely make it to Florida :( briandel wrote:
They're a cool bunch of guys too. I just saw them about a month ago in Lawrence and they spent at least an hour after the show talking to fans and signing autographs. My girlfriend is a huge fan-she was all sorts of excited; running around like a 5-year old.

Still my favorite LP of theirs and also my favorite on the LP. After the keyboard player left (after Last Drag, maybe?), both the recordings and the live performances suffered somewhat, but these guys are real troupers, and I still buy their music. :cheers:

I\'ve seen these guys in concert a couple of times but not for a few years. Love \'em! Great to hear them on RP! :notworthy: :cool:
very mediocre.
I'm astounded to hear this on the radio. Bravo!!!! :clap: :clap: :clap: This album, No Room, is a bit uneven (I usually skip a few of the songs), but the best songs on it are phenomenal. In particular, "When It's Raining" and "Taking Us Home" are definitely worth adding to the playlist along with "Did You Ever...." I think part of "Taking Us Home" was used in a TV commercial sometime last year (ten full years after No Room was released...). Way to go RP!!!

This song was on "No Room" which was released in April 1992, two months BEFORE Ziggy's "Conscious Party" in June 1992. It is OK to like both songs and groups. Samples of a number of very good songs that got decent radio play on AAA format: Taxi (love it!), Another Disaster, When It's Raining, Seasons in the City, Feel Us Shaking, Nature, Waited Up and Weight of the World to name a handful.
wow, the samples! right on! i sent some samples in a quite a few months back. maybe will get to hear more soon.
These guys are incredible, I just saw them for the first time and they were great, at times I wonder why bands like this don\'t get \"big\" for the sake of the bands success and prosperity, but with bands like the samples, I just consider them a best kept secret that only the lucky ones who know about them get to enjoy. If you like this, check these guys out!!! They are well worth it
am i really hearing this on the radio? my husband & i picked this song to start the dancing at our wedding, and it never fails to make me smile. thank you! :clap: :lol: :clap:
Great band, great song...that\'s why I uploaded it!
