Tell the band to go back home
Take the west side back,
And throw the boys the bones
We will always be alone
Under the moonlit sky,
Our names are carved in stone
(chorus)
We will be, we will be black bones
Pray the ship will come to shore
Pray for the lighthouse keeper,
Knocking on my door
I'm not coming back here anymore
All of the seashell songs are burned into my core
(repeat chorus)
Strong and true
We will steal you daughters
Run through them like water
Black devil on your porch
We will be the last moon surrender
I'm the geat pretender
I've been filling in your holes
We will be black bones
Tell the band to go back home
Take the west side back,
And throw the boys the bones
We will always be alone
Under the moonlit sky,
Our names are carved in stone

You're right, I've never heard John Mayer here either. Maybe there is a God after all?
The Daughters mention reminded me of John Mayer
ya never hear John Mayer here, too bad, I like him...

I had to take a second look to make sure Jeff Tweedy didn't start yet another new band!
I also hear a Dire Straits-esque ditty quality.

DOCTOR When did you first notice that you had diarrhoea?
PATIENT When I took my bicycle clips off.

Maybe if Knopfler had just caught his hand in a car door and had 2 fingers out of commission and a soar wrist.
It's not a bad song though.

OK, I count about nine musical references here, and someone walking by my office asked if I was playing David Gray - although pleasant enough I guess that officially makes this generic.
PEI=Prince Edward Island... in the great white north

A twinge of Willie Nelson in the voice, a dash of Wallflowers in the melody (God Says Nothing Back), and a hint of Chris Isaak/surf tune guitar.
Other than that, original sounding.
Very Bodeans-y. I like it.

I am reminded of a very limp version of Neil Diamond's Solitary Man.
I was thinking about dire straits too. I only wish there was more guitar here, this is quite monotonous.

No.. I hear a likeness to Joe Strummer on this one...

Now that joke I remember telling back in my schooldays, and even then it was ancient. Rumour has it that it came from an original in King Tut's tomb. Still, it never hurts to recycle old gems for a younger generation :o)
