Some bright morning when this life is o'er
I'll fly away
To that home on God's celestial shore
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away

When the shadows of this life have gone
I'll fly away
Like a bird from these prison walls I'll fly
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away

Oh how glad and happy when we meet
I'll fly away
No more cold iron shackles on my feet
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die, hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then
I'll fly away
To a land where joy's will never end
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I'll fly away
I'll fly away

Allison and Gillian together. Any time, anywhere. Try “A Trainload of Sky” from Gillian. You won’t be disappointed.
Alison made me a fan of bluegrass!
Two fantastic talents.

I'm not religious and I don't care. This song is glorious. (that entire soundtrack was glorious)
The credit includes Gillian Welch, but the Wikipedia sidebar defaults to Alison Krauss. Too bad it had to choose between them. I love both.
I see from the postings that some are critical, then other take umbrage at the critic over it.

I say relax.  That's the beauty of music.  There's something for everyone so long as you're not tone deaf.  And even then Tom Waits might appeal?

Bottom line?  I'm never...well....hardly ever....critical of another persons musical tastes.  You don't like it that's okay....I'm sure there's something out there that'll get your feet to taping.  Something will float your boat.  It's music, there's no reason to get upset.

For now I'll just fly away...

Beautiful song. I like it by The Dillards too.

If you mean what I think you mean, that's a really douchey thing to say.

When I dialed his number, nobody picked up the phone. I'd say, better heed the classic proverb: "If you need help, look at the end of your arms."

Brilliant film, brilliant song.

American exports most of its musical styles but unfortunately we don't get much Blue Grass (I think this qualifies as blue grass doesn’t it?) this side of the Atlantic.

no not Bluegrass, if I had to tag it I'd call it Mountain Music also called Hillbilly Music
also sounds like very very early Country Music in the Hank Williams style
Mountain Music's most known artist were The Carter Family
very nice song!

Me too. And the movie itself is one of my favorites.

this was my Grandmothers favorite song in church, she always requested it
sounded good with the accoustic guitar, piano and tambourine

I can't seem to get enough of those "southern" harmonies. Maybe the best soundtrack to come along in years.

Seconded!
Bill thanks for playing this ...lift your hands and dance!
Sigh. So many memories! For those who don't know... This is traditionally sung at funerals esp in parts of Tennessee. Buried many family members singing "I'll Fly Away" ...

{#Wave}......... Outstanding song  9
This song is soooo good for the ears...
oh my can't get any better than these two for this song, i have heard many versions but this one is tops
Wonderful version - but I still prefer my Dad and Uncle Phil's.
This one always reminds me of my early days listening to RP. I had just seen the movie, and this one was on a fairly regular rotation. I was blown away by the musical selection here, and became a regular listener. It's been a great 14 or so years.

Sorry, but I was punished with religious music like this as a child, and I can't stand it.
Please, for pity sake, I can't take the hymns.  It's too much.

Two angels singing.

This just hit me when this song came on, so maybe I am way off-base here, but here goes:  I think that much of the CURRENT popularity of roots style rock (Avetts, Mumford... ) can be traced back to this movie.  Think it over and get back to me.

Not sure that's the main reason, but I agree that the movie created renewed interest.  I'd like to think some of the resurgence is due to the 'purity' of this style: no loud amplifiers, no synthesizers or effects, clear vocals, and simple lyrics.

Southern rednecks of a certain age (like me) grew up with this type of music.  It was a mixture of bluegrass, country, and gospel that relied on four-part and five-part vocal harmonies.  Will always remind me of warm, sunny Sunday mornings.
Pleasant, unassuming and sweet. Very nice indeed.
I think I love every song on this disc.

Must be why I keep coming back to listen.
This is my favorite version of this song, and my favorite song on this outstanding soundtrack.

Sweet music ...feel like a butterfly.
I love the small "perfect moments" that happen every now and then...the match of mood, music, company and surroundings.  This is one of those moments...

I'm right there with you.  I grew up in BFE Ohio where this stuff was playing all the time.  For many years I loathed this kind of music.  However, after being about 250 miles away for nearly 10 years now, I find that I can actually enjoy old time bluegrass in small doses.  This is one of those doses.

That's actually where I grew up, in the northern most part of Appalachia.  It was one of those areas where wedding music was provided by someone's car backed up to the door of the church and funeral music by a bunch of hicks singing and playing gee-tar and banjo.  It drove me nuts for years, but now I can look back on it and appreciate it somehow.
A little bluegrass never hurts....just a little.{#Clap}
What a great album! Now that's old time... {#Guitarist}
One of my favorite bluegrass traditionals....sung by two of some of my favorite vocalists! {#Good-vibes}

Heavenly.
I love this old song, and this version.
I find it impossible to not sing along with this lovely song.
I love bluegrass!

You needed to play a bluegrass instrument if you wanted to hang out with the well-known archaeologists in Tidewater Virginia (back when I was an archaeologist).
Hey, that's just what I was thinking....?
Great harmonies.

I love this.

Sublime harmonies.

I can't say I recall this tune from the movie, but I like it!
