Take what you need;
You think will last
But whatever you wish to keep,
You better grab it fast
Yonder stands you're orphan
With his gun
Crying like a fire
In the sun
Look out baby
The same song comin' through
And it's all over now,
Baby blue
The highway is for gamblers;
Better use your sense
Take what you have gathered
From coincidence
The empty-handed painter
From your street
Is drawing crazy patterns
On your sheets
The sky, too, is fallin'
Over you
And it's all over now,
Baby blue
Leave your stepping stones behind
There's somethin' that calls for you
Forget the debt you've left -
That will not follow you
Your lover who has just walked
Through the door
Has taken all his blankets
From the floor
The carpet, too,
Is foldin' over you
And it's all over now,
Baby blue
It's all over now, baby blue
Yeah yeah
It's all over, it's all over now, baby blue
It's allllll
It's all over now
It's all over now, over now, baby blue...
Better than the original for sure. Got to love Van in this crazy year of 2020 for his courage and honesty. I wish more musicians shared his determination for the truth. God bless him
Jesus and Satan are pretend; know your true enemy.
I don't think Beck was even born when this came out.
Yeah, it was an inside joke between me and Them

He and his ilk are dangerous nutjobs.
Ahead of his time! The Beatles were still putting out some "bubble gum" in 1966!
Shiver me timber! Revolver album and bubble gum do not rhyme at all to me.
Hey, at least it's not Dylan singing his own material. Be grateful!
Any version is rarely better than the one sung by the writer.
Oh dear. I thought this was Mick Jagger for the last 49-1/2 years
Me too, at least for a while long ago - but as somebody quite familiar with the Stones' and also Jager's solo oeuvre, I soon realized: impossible; it can't be Jagger. But still I remember that; everytime I hear this song. And doesn't Morrison sound incredibly like Jagger here?
It's Them

I think Van is just interested in his career and paychecks, not truth. Plenty of reliable and verifiable facts about COVID-19 and they are not what Van and Eric are pushing.

Haha. So did I until I saw this.
Oh dear. I thought this was Mick Jagger for the last 49-1/2 years
Well, you were wrong by two factors. One, Mick Jagger can't sing. Two, the Rolling Stones wrote one hit (Angie), and that's it

Pre-'66 Beatle bubble gum tunes were on the radio big time. But '65 and '66 were their transition years of Rubber Soul and Revolver, and with them the Beatles were bidding bye bye to bubble gum.
Jerry did it justice...
I don't think Beck was even born when this came out.
This was on the 'Them Again" album, released April, 1966 (4 years before Beck was born).
Wonderful
I don't think Beck was even born when this came out.
yeah, sampling didn't exist either...
Beck has a song called Jackass. He samples this song.
It's an inside joke between me and Them.

This is the sort of comment that I would expect from idiot_wind. It would be classic for them.
I don't think Beck was even born when this came out.
I didn't realize the Beck song had a Van Morrison sample in it.
Not really... the musical riff that got sampled is from The Them, not Dylan.
Yes, really. Dylan wrote the damn song.
I don't think Beck was even born when this came out.
bob Dylan is the source......

Beck Sample to me seems to come from Van Morrison. My ears usually are not wrong!
Hah, funny (hee hee. Not them, Them). I was listening while working and thought "Is this an early Stones song?" Nope.
Van Morrison active since 1958.
Mick Jagger active since 1960.
Bob Dylan active since 1962.
To be clear, I'm not accusing anyone of anything. Artists do influence each other and I don't know who's influencing who here. Van and Mick both took their turns trying on some Dylan-esque vocal stylings for example (I mean, to the extent they were able to imitate anyone). This being a Dylan song it's not a stretch to think Van's trying to channel Bob a bit vocally too.
I like a lot of VM's output, and even more so BD's....in fact this is one of my fav of BD's....enough of a fav that I'll go 9 on this one simply cuz I like the song so much. Or maybe down to an 8 now....either way, Long Live RP!!

Agree - increased to 8
I think I remember Falco's version, but wasn't it titled "Es Ist Alles Vorbei, Baby Blau" or something like that?
ach tu leebah!!! : P luv dis one

Great song....great cover.
Bob Dylan and Van Morrison were never friends.Van Morrison hung out in Woodstock trying to be friends with Dylan but Dylan didn't want to have anything to do with him. They don't talk to this day.
That's the biggest CD I've ever seen!

That's silly—they've sung together many times.
Funny how different personal tastes are... I dislike a lot of Van's stuff but enjoy this cover a lot.

Actually (and rarely) I prefer another cover version - Graham Bonet's.
ah, I remember the turn table; didn't have the album but love Van. Saw him at the Armadillo in Austin, Tx sometime back there in the 70's

The original artwork.
i'd go fer that
Haha, yep that's what I think every time (I don't dislike the Beck song, but it ain't got nothing on this!)
Agreed!
Name that tune, fellas.
The Drifters to Bob Dylan to Van Morrison.
Makes sense to me.
Of course, now that Dylan is an entirely incongruous Superbowl commercial star, it oughta be more like It's All Over Now My Baby Blue Jeep interior.
This is just one of those magic songs. Both versions are brilliant in their own ways. And both interpreted by genius.

Indeed.

Everybody in my church loves this cover...
Good to hear the original source.
I'm disapointed it's not Beck. About the only thing I would not rather hear than Van Morrison is Joni Mitchell...
Don't judge, lots of people around here have their own strange 'blind spots', these two are mine...
Nicely worded, yet completely wrong.
+1
Good to hear the original source.
Saw him in the movie, Last Waltz. Didn't seen like he and Bob D. were too cordial...but that applies to most everyone and Bob.
Mind you... not a single word of introduction etc - but you wouldn't expect that would you!!
I couldn't disagree more. Back then, there was one (of many) rules you followed when crafting an album: when you run out of material, cover Dylan or Holly. So many did either or both to great effect. Van's take on "Baby Blue" is one of the better ones.
There's precious little which is genuinely new. Doc Pomus wrote the intro chording( save the last dance for me- truly an interesting story), Dylan, the words, Jagger the vocal styling. Still, one of Van M's better pieces.
Exactly what I said! Beck had to sample this!
This is why I tune in here, these discoveries, no clue Beck sampled that. thanks
Nicely worded, yet completely wrong.
Same here. So now I have a link between Beck and Bob Dylan via Van Morrison.

Still not a favorite, though.
I think he, Eric Burden and other UK singers of their generation were trying to sound like American R&B singers like Wilson Pickett but they ended up sounding a little like each other at first.

I think I remember Falco's version, but wasn't it titled "Es Ist Alles Vorbei, Baby Blau" or soemthing like that?
As Mr. McEnroe was fond of saying "YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!!!!!!"
I don't think Beck was even born when this came out.
I think that was a joke.
