Birds flyin' high, you know how I feel
Sun in the sky, you know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by, you know how I feel
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me.
Yeah, it's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me, ooooooooh...
And I'm feelin' good.

Fish in the sea, you know how I feel
River runnin' free, you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree, you know how I feel
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me,
And I'm feelin' good

Dragonfly out in the sun, you know what I mean, don't you know,
Butterflies all havin' fun, you know what I mean.
Sleep in peace when day is done: that's what I mean,
And this old world is a new world and a bold world for me...

Stars when you shine, you know how I feel
Scent of the pine, you know how I feel
Yeah, freedom is mine, and I know how I feel:
It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me
(scat)
And I'm feelin'... good.

no accounting for taste, as a feller said.

One time I was out with a mate and he started telling me how much he thinks Nina Simone is overrated.  I mean jesus christ we hadn't even started drinking yet and this garbage just dribbles out of his mouth.  I haven't spoken to him since.

Haha nah we need the muse version
Just got a call from Don Draper.  Told me to give it a 9 as his internet is down.  I told him 8.  Told me it'd be the last time we talked if.   Well, 9 it is then.
Shame on the record companies for licensing these classic tunes to the greedy pharmaceutical companies, ruining these songs just to peddle their drugs.
EXCELLENT!!  Thanx RP!

I saw Nina Simone on consecutive nights at Ronnie Scott's sometime in the 1980s.  The first night she was sublime (which prompted me to buy a ticket for the following night); sadly the second night she was awful.  I believe she was a very tempermental performer, but when she was on song, boy was she on song!

9 --==>> 10.
As a wise man once said, "this song is so good for the ears!"
Highly recommend the documentary on Netflix about Simone, a very intense, very complicated person.
Excellent!
That intro rocked me.
A Nina Simone song where she's 'feeling good' gets a 10
this is a masterpiece of conflict:

lyrics proclaiming joy
Nina's tone weary with sadness
Rhythm and horns a campy romp

PERFECT - an icon of a song, performance and arrangement. If this would be a benchmark not much left that would stand its ground beside this.

music can transport an aura of the perfoming artist, this is an example as is some of dylans best work - when listening there is more than just the music fading in the room and mind of the listener - there is also a almost physically imprint of the performer
straight 10 every day of the week. Gets me every time. Sung straight from the heart.

She wafted down some elegant marble stairs in a Georgian house and onwards into a sunlit room full of our friends and family to stand by my side to this tune as we got married by a celebrant to a service written by ourselves.

Suffice to say. . . it now holds a very, very special place in my heart.

The Bassnectar remix (as used in the opening scene from Legion season 1, episode 6) is pretty good too.
This woman, wow!  Straight from the heart, even if it was a bit of a twisted heart (aren't they all?).
Going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, finally.

This song is so much bigger than life in so many ways, the Wall of Sound before we even knew what that really was, and despite what we know about her suffering on so many levels, there is always that moment of freedom from fear, loathing and sickness unto death and that all combines together in this beauty of performance, true to its mark, felt deeply, vibrating through my heart, heard by my ears and celebrated in my mind.   I love this song
Can't help but wonder if this one was played ironically. On this of all days "It's a new dawn it's a new day..." just makes me cringe.
I know, most likely the playlist is just on auto-pilot and it's a coincidence.

Great story about Nina Simone in the movie 20,000 Days on Earth.  That is why I came here for a look.  Looks like I already gave this song a 9.
OMG, Nina on RP. I am speachless!
Hey Bill,

This is the only song I hear you play by Simone. Why is that?
8.7? <Shakes head mournfully.>

I did until Simon quit. Great show.  People have their prejudices.  Here is a great paradox for you:  the people who claim to be most interested in culture are actually the ones who are least interested in culture.  (I am not making a case for TV.  It's one outlet among many.  But AI was a great show for awhile.  Not for the same reasons we listen to RP.   Apples to oranges.  Love culture. Peace.)

Nina is the Queen!!
I've always had a soft spot for Traffic's version from Last Exit. Thought it took a bit of moxie for a hip rock band to play Anthony Newley.
Thanks, that explains the 'feel' - they were contemporaries. As was Shirley Bassey.
