Just a shakin' in my knees, just a cold chill
Don't know what it is, just call it a thrill
Just a lump in my throat, just hot blood
Don't know what it is, some call it love
Well I saw you out in your car
You had the top down, you were drivin' real slow

Well I saw you in the grocery store
Buyin' tomatoes for a casserole

Well I saw you in the laundrymat
Washin' your clothes, gettin' all the dirt out

Well I saw you with your car broke down
Fixin' your flat with a tire iron

I like the break and I also like brussels sprouts.  Roasted with some pancetta, lotsa salt.

Love it! Saw Lucinda play another stellar show April 19th at the Boulder Theater (2nd time I've seen her there!) and she and her band Buick 6 made us all dance wild in the aisles... She still can't play guitar since the stroke she had last year, but she sure can sing like no one else can, just like always!  See her and be blessed!

hadn't heard about the CVA - hope she regains her abilities. Strong vocals and fun lyrics

I'm hearing having fun dancing to this with a sexy someone in a steamy Southern honky-tonk and Lucinda and the guitar player are driving the crowd crazy with this song. So basically the same as you.
The more i hear lucinda the more i am very impressed by her, LLRP

I love that break...
you see...

she enjoys playing with other really good players

You only say that cuz you're a Texan and she's a Loisianan! Lol  I know....lived in both states!! IMHO, Louisiana is far better, in so many ways. Texas, eh, it has it's own. And, proud to boast of it!! LA folks are just all around nicer. As for Lucinda.... she's 9yrs my senior, but would still gladly wine & dine her, as if she were still in her 20's!!! She's just too cool. IMHO. As far as her efforts....I'm quite sure she doesn't really care what YOUR opinion is! She's got enuff accolades, that yours is basically insignificant.

Gah!
Good song, like the lilt in her quavering voice, farfisa organ and yes the propulsive bass previously mentioned. Horrid would be today's pop music! But each to his own toast and butter!      {#Jump}

ann-oy-ING
Hot Blood, hot song.
Yep, this is annoying.
Reminds me of Amy LaVere's "Washing Machine"--or maybe it's vice versa.
I really like this.  Rock solid propulsive bass.
"...gettin' all the dirt out."
Indeed.
Never heard it before - but I like it!  Bluesy, edgy, sexy....go LW!

Puts me in the mind of yodeling in the valley.

Sorry... too yodal eddie who for my liking! {#Headache}
Who knew casserole could be so sexy?
Okay my ears are bleeding now.
I've been liking her more and more. Good one!
Who else can make this line incredibly sexy? :

I saw you in the grocery store
Buying tomatoes
For a casserole

This is the second time I've used this same comment tonight (first time in reference to someone disliking Thom Yorke's voice on a Radiohead In Rainbows track), but it's the only authentic reaction I can muster:

In all due respect, are you out of your mind?

Incredibly dull, but then again this type of music isn't really my thing usually. Each to his own though.

I guess I must be one of the few who like that little vocal 'trick' upturn she does at the end of a lot of the verse lines. I also love slide guitar - I find the playing here particularly crisp and sinewy - kind of sneaky in the way that the whole tune cranks along. Would have thought it would have a little higher average rating - at least somewhere in the 6's.
 The whole song is so sultry ... I love the way she delivers the lines.  This is just sleazy, bad-ass stuff!  {#Devil_pimp}
Can't believe this only has a 5.7 average.

Bill, How about restoring "Right in Time" to the playlist and seeing if it draws the same reaction....  Personally, I think Lucinda's even better there.

I do not understand why Bill keeps playing this.  It's full-on adult contemporary — except it's not contemporary... it's early-90s adult contemporary.  This is the sort of music I find in the CD collection of people who have little actual musical interest.

Plus with a 5.7 average rating, the community is clearly not in favor.

I have. I love it. I love music. Expand your circle, please.
Hey Maybe Bill plays it cause some of us had still not heard it, and I thoght it was good. Never had heard it before. I like it. Nice and peaceful.

Like every Lucinda album, it's a mix of hardship, pain, love of small things and smoky slide guitar

What kind of comment was that? Lucinda scary?

I like Lucinda Williams in all her glory... but I'm really taken with this one. Especially the repetitive shifting into a higher note midway through the last syllable on half the lines. YEAH!
Really not bad, but the accompaniment is sooo slick...all hired guns, I bet.
I just bought the whole CD on Amazon.com (via the RP link, of course) thanks to hearing "Hot Blood" on RP. I guess you either love or hate Lucinda's sometimes unintelligible drawl and those distinctive high notes.
I have loved everything I have heard from Lucinda. Thanks Bill for introducing her to me... Ah Bill, always giving me great new music to load my iPod with!
right on. sdn wrote:

Curious - I didn't know much of her work, but lately she's been turning up more and more on RP ... I'm generally open to something new, something I haven't heard, but every time I hear something by Lucinda Williams that I hadn't heard before, I like her work less. It gets worse on every listen, doesn't it? It's like multi-layered bad news.
Lighten up huh? Well... the public has spoken and all I can do is echo their thoughts. Sorry Geechee... it is what it is and it is a some kind of pile from a dog! Geecheeboy wrote:

I love Lucinda (and the rest of this album) but this song is positively wretched. Whoever advised her to keep that high register vocal should be drawn and quartered.
Hey - I knew they invented the suck-o-barf-o rating for something.
Lucy, Lucy, Lucy! Like the sly lyrics and dark humor in this one... -- Saw LW at the Boulder Theater a couple years ago...She and her guitar-man can JAM! and the incredible Michelle Moanin' Mallone played The Trilogy the day or two before... how about some o' THAT, there, Bill? Thanks!
