I opened up the music box
I wish you would have changed the locks
To keep me from replaying
All the feelings I've been saving
I did not keep them locked up inside
I did not take my steps in stride
Thought you were bluffing, trampled on you
Went from friends to nothing
Radio turns to gold
And paves the way
To find my home
When I'm alone

Overeager and underway
I risked it all, I had to say
What opened me up for the beating
But the heart is for bleeding
With scraps of songs I paste along
The seams of my clumsy tongue
In hopes of creating the golden notes
That might bring you back to me

Radio turns to gold
And paves the way
To find my home
When I'm alone

Like phantoms on the highway
After holiday, gritting their teeth
Racing to find a place for their soul
Or at least a place... that's less familiar
We offer up our heart before
The heart's invited or asked for
Oh no, here I go my friend, I'm repeating
But the heart is for bleeding...
And I've said all I can say
I am retreating, on my way
Music box, play my song I'll sing along
To that bitterly sweet tone
When I'm alone...

Does anyone hear a bit of Bob Mould in this guy's voice? Not a bad song.....
Dead on, Mark. I raced here to see if anyone else heard it. Nice call. I tried uploading 'If I Can't Change Your Mind' but Bill and Rebecca weren't interested. Maybe I'll try some Husker Du instead... Decent tune, though the overdubbing or digital effect on his voice is tiring.
This song is really growing on me, the music box lullaby undercurrent and the beautiful harmonies have finally won out over the somewhat maudlin lyrics ;) I heard it live for the first time a few weeks ago, and it was even more stunning...
I'm a dedicated Carbon Leaf fan and must objectively say this one seems aimed a little more toward the pop/rock radio crowd (hey, gotta pay the bills). Still not bad though - especially if you know of and appreciate their other, better stuff! Kudos to RP for keeping the "Leaf" in rotation
peter murphy he sounds like peter murphy for crying outloud! mark sandman?
Reminds me of an indie band like Red House Painters with modern rock production. I kinda like it. Need to listen some more before passing judgement. Definitely listenable though. EDIT: Actually, it's that "When Iiiiiaaaeeeiiii" vocal hook that makes me like it. :)

I think I hear a touch of the Sandman in his voice. Yawn... This sounds like Hoobastank's The Reason. I'll just say I'm not a fan of Hoobastank. Sorry Carbon Leaf, I like some of your other stuff.
Hoobastank? Yuck.... didn't hear that, but I'll give it a few more listens before insulting them with that comparison......

No, I didn't, but that's not a representative opinion here, because I don't know Bob :) Quite likable. I think I've heard better tunes from these folk

like i said about one of the other cuts from these folks... good, predictable sound grabs your ear at first, but may not sustain test of time like tiffany
