Your knuckles whiten on the wheel
The last thing that your hands will feel
Your final flight can't be delayed

No earth, just sky it's so surreal
Your pink fat lips let go a scream
You fry and melt I love the scene

Sometimes I fantasise
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Don't these times fill your eyes

When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Are you all alone
Is anybody home?

I'm standing warm against the cold
Now that the flames have taken hold
At least you left your life in style

And for far as I can see
Ten twisted grills grin back at me
Bad money dies I love the scene

Sometimes I fantasise
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Don't these times fill your eyes

When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Are you all alone
Is anybody home?

Sometimes I fantasise
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Don't these times fill your eyes

When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Are you all alone
Are you made of stone?

RP is on a roll: the Bunnymen and Stone Roses within half an hour. Makes up for all the Neil Young and Bob Dylan earlier today

Not surprised. It's a great place to live!

Reminds me of Bowie's China Girl, especially around the 2:50 mark
Too bad they read so much of thier own press...cause they made some really fun stuff...
Reminds me of Oingo Boingo
The baseline on this is just awesome, on my Devialet speakers it literally shakes the house. A great reference song.

There's a great clip from The Old Grey Whistle Test (I think, introduced by Annie Nightingale) featuring TSR singing this and the sound system breaks down much to Mr Brown's annoyance (sorry, I haven't got the link)

It was actually The Late Show on BBC and i think it was Joan Bakewell. But i agree that it is a great clip
I wore this CD out in college!
Terrific cut. Great production, guitar, drums and hook.  Have I under rated it at a mere 8?
The whole album is fantastic.  It was actually released in 1989.

OK, gotta bump that. 7 > 8.
I recall the thrill of discovering this band in the early 90s, and how fun it was driving all the 4-WD back-roads of the rugged, picturesque Noto Peninsula, in the wilds of Ishikawa-ken, from '93 to 2000, with this and other contemporary jammers in the tape deck... I must say, I also enjoyed guitarist John Squire's splinter group, The Seahorses, too; they picked up and rocked solid where these sounds left off...
Would be better if done with a banjo.
Godlike Mr Squire effort, to these ears.
SOoooo lightweight it's not really there. This following Snow Patrol?" Signing off to listen to records now,

T-9 days to Stone Roses in Finsbury Park.  Pumped.
A tasty serving from a delicious post-psychadelic album.

Complicated explanation here, but with excellent sound bite example.  Simple explanation here.  'Saturation' refers to how deeply the effect is dialed-in, if that makes any sense.

If you're a guitar player (or a bass player) you sure do want one.  They're about the coolest toys I've ever messed with.
Gotta love da flange!

I have this and I don't listen to it enough. I'll have to change that!

Thanks for posting the lyrics! They made a good song even better!

Such a cheery little tune to describe a psychopathic fighter pilot's thoughts about his job. Disturbing. {#Eek}
One of my favorite S.R. songs.

A song that reflects these dark economic times?
Wow - when was this recorded? It has that 80s alternative vibe, almost like the Chameleons or the Smiths. Nice...

i don't get this vibe

Saying that a band sounds like another band is not an insult. Music is a continuum of influences and expressions - everyone sounds like each other and distinct from one another. I think for a lot of people it helps them appreciate something MORE, not LESS, to refer to influences. It's also a very basic tenet of critical thinking - hearing similarities helps emphasize differences, and can help one articulate what one likes in a song or artist.
I agree with Dr. Hooey's comment and with his extremely articulate presentation of his reasoning! So good to meet a rational intellectual now and then . . .

Yeah, plus it's just kinda fun. If you like football, you might say "How 'bout that Eli Manning in the Super Bowl?" ... it doesn't really need to be said, but then again, what does? (OK, there's a few things that truly NEED saying ... if you are in a burning building, say "Fire" ... if you ever get captured, you need to say name, rank, and serial number ... I'm sure there's a few more I'm leaving out, but most discourse is basically for entertainment purposes only).

Your comment sounds like so many other comments on every single song in this gosh darn Radio Paradise thing. I think this sounds very Stone Roses-ish. The singer sounds exactly like Ian Brown, and the guitar sounds just like something John Squire would do. In fact, I don't think this sounds like anything other than the Stone Roses. And even if I did, I can't imagine anyone would find it the least bit interesting to hear my opinion on who else it may sound like!

That's some damn ugly cover art, isn't it?

....but sometimes a band is influenced by other bands, and on purpose try to sound like them. What's the harm in saying you hear those influences?
the debut!-and they even never came close to this one again.
Sounds like the Beach Boys to me. Girls dancing on the beach is all it needs :)

I concur. Sounds very Stone Roses-ish to me.

I agree with this sentiment. Hearing that artist A sounds like artist B always begets an insecurity in me -- as if there were some deep or obscure technical characteristic of musicianship I'm missing. Much of the time, there's nothing in me beyond "I like it."
Yeah it does sound very Kink-sy doesn't it. Good call. UNCUT ran a great feature on this band last issue. Very interesting and worth seeking out. UNCUT is the best music mag out there by the way. If you haven't read it I would recommend it highly. It won International Publication of the Year and virtually kicks the living sh*t out of all the competition.
I like them but this one is not doing much for me - it does sound like early Kinks though.
Sounds very Kinks-y.

"Are you made of stone?" This is too violent for you? Man, don't listen to any Nick Cave! (For example, https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/nickcavethebadseeds/staggerlee.html)

Humph. What hapens when someone tryies to protest or arosue awareness of an important issue in a non-threatening, peaceful way? nothing. Hostility is the only way to get yourself heard. of course you still have to speak with intelligence and respect. But this song isa little hostile/violent, and you noticed, didn't you?
Unconvincing.

Me too ...
Aahh, it's so satisfying to raise a 6.9 song to a 7 by rating it a 9. I think this one is severely underated and will keep on rising from now on.

The Ned's broke up a while back. John the singer formed a new band called Groundswell UK for awhile but decided he didn't want to have to start all over with a new band. Then he tried to get the Ned's back together - some members agreed to and some didn't. With some original and some new musicians the Ned's toured in 2001. They were scheduled to play in the US in New York Fall 2001 - but the show got cancelled due to the Sept 11 attacks. Since then they played some more dates in the UK and released a live CD. Looks like they may continue touring and possibly release a new album? See more info here: https://www.nedsatomicdustbin.com/home.asp

Agreed - The Stone Roses are amazing. Glad to see them getting some notice here. I know the second album was a change from the great Brit Pop first album to sub standard zeppelin-esque Rock - but some tracks are brilliant like "Ten Story Love Song." There would be no Oasis without The Stone Roses
i'll upload "ten story...." the next go around.
