If you, if you could return
Don't let it burn, don't let it fade
I'm sure I'm not being rude
But it's just your attitude
It's tearing me apart
It's ruining everything
And I swore, I swore I would be true
And honey so did you
So why were you holding her hand
Is that the way we stand
Were you lying all the time
Was it just a game to you

But I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to, do you have to
Do you have to let it linger

Oh, I thought the world of you
I thought nothing could go wrong
But I was wrong
I was wrong
If you, if you could get by
Trying not to lie
Things wouldn't be so confused
And I wouldn't feel so used
But you always really knew
I just wanna be with you

And I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to. do you have to
Do you have to let it linger

And I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to, do you have to
Do you have to let it linger

You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to, do you have to
Do you have to let it linger

RIP Delores.
Dolores, of Blessed memory.

I wonder if anyone can name a single Cranberries member besides Dolores.  It's always interesting how female leads soak up pretty much all the attention.  Pretenders, Blondie, Jefferson Airplane, etc.

And that is a problem?

Gosh, that silly rhyme -- linger with finger -- and those thin vocals; and what does she mean by, "Do you have to let it linger"? Let what linger? His finger? People  are particularly fragile on this RP comment board especially.   If it isn't some moist accolade or flattery,  they thumb it down or make some bitchy,  butt hurt reply.....
I miss the DooOOO

You wouldn't understand even if somebody would paint it for you. Alternative was big before and alongside grunge in the 90s.

miss u, dolores  :(
Simply beautiful,we miss you❤️
A bit of levity with all the gravity:  it is physically impossible to sing along with this without putting on an offensively strong Ulster accent.
Still sad to listen to this voice and this lyric.
RIP  Deloris, love your voice,.gone too soon.

Still love this CD and the way their voices waft around in harmony. Hard to believe it's been that long since this was the new stuff. Time flies.

This comment still holds.... Even 16y later
Oh, so we're having Cranberries for Thanksgiving?!
Crap this song grabs me by the booboo...cry every time.
R.I.P.

Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan (6 September 1971 – 15 January 2018), On 15 January 2018, at the age of 46, while in London, England, for a recording session, O'Riordan died unexpectedly.

.
I can't sing a note, but these vocals and harmonies give me the cringes.
This is a timeless song for me.  Love it just as much now.

so, so bad. annoying.
Man this takes me back.
The Cranberries
Garbage
The Cardigans

3 bands ... not 2.

2 more bands with the same concept:
Texas
Metric

Strange how they sound peculiar similar.
Did you have to pull my finger...blegh
Hearing this makes me recall visiting The States when it came out; I bought Crowded House's 'Together Alone' CD and this at a shop, jammed them on friends' systems, then took them back to Noto Hanto in Japan and played them happily in solid rotation for years...
A lovely song. Great Album too.
A sappy song, but I do love it so.

Indeed. One of the problems with the type of dismissive comment you were responding to is that somehow or other, not every person in the entire world has heard a given song as many times as a specific pissed-off listener has, and thus may not dislike it as righteously as he/she is supposed to. It is puzzling that so many listeners assume that personal taste is universal. Apparently, not everyone is as evolved nor has as refined a sense of taste. It is possible to like music and like some Cranberries songs without too much much cognitive disonance. Or so I surmise.

That's exactly what I mean when I say, "Whatever. You know, you can be such an ass."....The musical reference  in the statement can be replaced with any topic at hand. I have found, if I were to try and expound at such a level, the other party might go glassy eyed and hurt themselves trying to process such "truthiness." Therefore, for the safety of all involved, I try to keep my responses to the level of the person making the disdaining comment. None the less, I agree whole heartedly with you. Well put.

What would 1993 have been without this song? HOLY CHRIST THAT WAS 20 YEARS AGO.

Not my favorite song but it holds up well enough despite being played to death. (Do I hold up as well after so long?)

Gaah. I would be happy not ever having to hear this song again.

Management regretfully reports that this song will be removed from rotation until further notice to undergo intensive restoration and repair after years of abuse and overplaying.

Another Cranberries song (yes, they did write more than two) will take the place of "Linger."

Please do not celebrate immoderately or excessively. Thank you for your continued patronage.

This is the song the rating of 7 was made for.

I like this song, but the rhyme finger and linger just somehow conjures some very unpleasant images...
finger, linger.....................worthy of a zinger

Great to hear that Irish band The Cranberries again! It's a time machine back to 1993...thanks Radio Paradise!
Wow...this stretch is peppered so well and piquantly with early and mid 90s tunes...those were happy times indeed...  AND IT LINGERS...
All the good stuff in my mind plays along to gems like this and so many others found consistently on RP...  Thanks!
Linger becomes loiter.
Oh, NO!!!
Cranborings again...Cry

I love RP.  This is the only song, for over 5 years of listening, I am pushing mute.  Here I go, be back soon...
Zombie is a much more powerful song from the Cranberries

In 2009 The Cranberries reunited and began a North American tour, followed by dates in Latin America and Europe in early 2010. They performed at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Irish Special Olympics games at Thomond Park on 9 June 2010, their first performance in their native city for over 15 years.

Thanks Wikipedia!

Happy way to start the morning at work.
Did you have to pull my finger?
That will make it linger....
Do you have to?
Do you have to?
Do you have to let this song linger?

After much overplay of this song, I think I can handle this maybe once every 6 months and no more often...
You had a breakthrough on your finger...
Do you have to...Do you have to....Do you have to let it linger?

Dolores :)))

It's always bothered me that I can't work out that lyric. Unless, of course, it was the only rhyme for "finger" they could think of.

He (or she, depending on sexual orientation, neither no nor care) is not breaking up, but not loving lead singer anymore who herself can't break up. I guess.

Saw them back then. When they got famous afterwards I wore the t-shirt off.

Dolores, one question: did you have to?
I can never remember if they're the cranberries or the raspberries.
The Cranberries were always best when they stuck to writing beautifully made little love songs like this one.

dingleberries often linger around long after wiping... {#Moon} just like the cranberries.

a solid 2 b/c this song reminds me of that..

Someone dared her "how many notes can you hit in a song while singing the word FINGER".  Fingeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee—-ahhhhh

Yes, I must!
Great song, can listen to it over and over... "Did you have to pull my finger..." Solid 9.
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to pull my finger?
This takes me back to high school.
Listening to the radio, it took me a long time to learn that there was only one female vocalist in the group. Such impressive harmonies.
Unique music...they got me with Zombie.
always been a 10/10.
still works, even after 5M listens
- 10
This one is fun to listen to just for the delicious brogue.
This song lingers...unfortunately.
This really belongs in some kind of Hall Of Fame - landmark work.

Also heard some awesome old Toad the Wet a few minutes ago... SCHWEET! Always a good idea, putting RP on and turning up the Vol...

Much better than their zombie crap. They really had a way with this melodic stuff. Wonderfull.
Yep, whenever they try the melodic and peaceful work they succeed.
This is one of the weird "exception" songs for me. I totally dislike this style of music, yet I've always sorta liked this particular song. So it is.

10. 10. Perfect 10.

And for that, you enjoy this song ALONE!
I could enjoy Delores O'Rierdan's reading of the telephone book. Hell, if she just repeated the word "Linger" over and over for 4 minutes, I'd give it a 9.
This was a great song the first 5,000,000 times I heard it. Now - Hate to complain. I love this station!
This is a lovely song. The Cranberries never even came close to this level again.
whoooooooosch......and back in the 90's on any party during my time in university.... wein, weib und gesang.
I can't help but sing along with "Do I have to, do I have to, do I have to pull your finger?" For that alone I enjoy this song.
one of the greatest 90s song
I have a hard time listening to this song. Overplayed on smooth jazz station my old boss played all day long at work..this song was on 2 sometimes 3 times a day. Totally ruined it.
A most excellent love song. Love the lady's singing - sorry don't don't the name.

Why stop there? Listen to a little Blind Melon and maybe you could start doing heroine and stop learning all together!
I do heroine quite often. No effect on my learning. Now, heroin, that's another matter. Really, to this day this song serves a better punchline than musical entertainment. Acceptable at best.
