On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived
On the day the wall came down
The Ship of Fools had finally ran aground
Promises lit up the night like paper doves in flight

I dreamed you had left my side
No warmth, not even pride remained
And even though you needed me
It was clear that I could not do a thing for you

Now life devalues day by day
As friends and neighbors turn away
And there's a change that, even with regret, cannot be undone
Now frontiers shift like desert sands
While nations wash their bloodied hands
Of loyalty, of history, in shades of grey

I woke to the sound of drums
The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and I looked at you
And all but the bitter residues slipped away...slipped away

I was about 17 when this album came out, a year before I really found Pink Floyd (via Dark Side and The Wall at first), and buy the time I got to Momentary Lapse and Division Bell, it just didn't do it for me more than their big 4 albums (Wish and Animals and the first two.)

Hearing this now, feels about 8 level, at least Richard sounded happier in his playing!!
RIP RW & SB and LLRP!!
I'll take any Floyd any time.  I'll take any Gilmour any time.

This is not one of PF's stronger songs but the lyrics are interesting.
I wonder why this track is never played? The guitar solo alone is one of the best damn solos I've ever heard.  A piece of music from my childhood, from one of the first albums I knew *reminisces*

The moment of history that relates to this song, the inspiration and determination of the musicians of the band Pink Floyd, the lyrics, are more than enough reason to convert this song almost of mandatory hearing.
