Ramona
Come closer
Shut softly your watery eyes
The pangs of your sadness
Shall pass as your senses will rise
The flowers of the city
Though breathlike
Get deathlike at times
And there's no use in tryin'
T' deal with the dyin'
Though I cannot explain that in lines

Your cracked country lips
I still wish to kiss
As to be under the strength of your skin
Your magnetic movements
Still capture the minutes I'm in
But it grieves my heart, love
To see you tryin' to be a part of
A world that just don't exist
It's all just a dream, babe
A vacuum, a scheme, babe
That sucks you into feelin' like this

I can see that your head
Has been twisted and fed
By worthless foam from the mouth
I can tell you are torn
Between stayin' and returnin'
On back to the South
You've been fooled into thinking
That the finishin' end is at hand
Yet there's no one to beat you
No one t' defeat you
'Cept the thoughts of yourself feeling bad

I've heard you say many times
That you're better 'n no one
And no one is better 'n you
If you really believe that
You know you got
Nothing to win and nothing to lose
From fixtures and forces and friends
Your sorrow does stem
That hype you and type you
Making you feel
That you must be exactly like them

I'd forever talk to you
But soon my words
They would turn into a meaningless ring
For deep in my heart
I know there is no help I can bring
Everything passes
Everything changes
Just do what you think you should do
And someday maybe
Who knows, baby
I'll come and be cryin' to you

I can't believe I've never left a comment on this track. Perhaps it's because I can't think of adequate words. Suffice it to say that if I were asked to choose just one non-classical piece of music above all others, this would be it. Words, music, performance all wonderful. I'll never tire of hearing this and it always brings tears.
One of (in a long list) of my favorite Dylan songs! Beautiful cover.
Exhibit #whatever that Bob Dylan was an amazing songwriter whose genius is best served by others.

Such a great version of an amazing song.

Well put.
Kind of a Tex Mex Marty/Robbins sound to the arrangement. Nice!

Your cracked country lips.. vs
cracked and dusty dime store lips

I seem to be the exception to the prevailing opinion here, but I think that this cover version is quite horrible.
After listening to this I tried the original Bob Dylan version.  My advice: Don't.

I'm waiting for "Vaya con Dios, my darling" at any moment.

If anyone, anywhere has any recent (since 2018?) news of this great lady please let us know if there will ever be another album.
goosebumps
and now i am crying...
awesome!
Now THIS is a cover! Nicely done Sinead
I'd give Bob another Nobel for this song alone.
I would SO love to hear Sinead and Florence (and the Machine) do a duet!
Thank you Bill for playing Sinead Lohan. It was only one album a long time ago but every track was terrific.
this is a beauty  : )

You may have something there. I would place the similarities of sound and beat with the type of music RP typically plays. I often have trouble separating one singer from the next, preceding; or several. Yikes! Like now. Not just female singers. Then, too, why fight profitable success in the music business?  Jump on the red wagon and fly.

Obviously, everyone hears different things but she doesn't sound like Sarah McLaughlin to me.  She's got a different voice, different cadence, different timbre.  Anyhow, judging by the song comments for most songs performed by female singers, many of the listeners here seem to think that all female singers sound alike.

Try her "No Mermaid." What a song!

Towne Van Zandt a few minutes ago, and "I'ts all Over Now" by Van Morrison after. Then "To Ramona". A friend of mine, Claude died this morning.
He liked Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Towne. . I hope that where he is now,  he  listen to  Radio paradise.
This is soooo well done. The Spanish guitar sound, her voice.... it's magic

This was the second time that I heard Sinead Lohan's To Romano and both times it came on while was about half asleep and both times it took me to a dream that is both vivid and recalled with clarity.

What a set of pipes!

I hope, when she's done raising the kids, that she makes another album.

 yup, me too.

If I could give this a perfect score of 11 I would. Fabulous!

How lovely, a vocalist that is powerful without shouting. i'm waiting for the chorus throughout though. Sounds a bit like Pussycat to me too.

I like this, right after "It's all over now, Baby Blue" by Van and Them... but it always worries me when i hear too many songs by a single artist... is Bob OK (other than the jeep-ad controversy)?

I gave this a 7, but most of that is for the song itself.  It's one of the old Dylan's very best, from waaay back in his folk music days.  It's been recorded by at least a gazillion different acts; I've never heard a bad version of it.  I'm glad a new generation is discovering the tune and its genuinely timeless lyrics.  You're right that it's a perfect change of pace number for hard rockers.  Get your guitarist to put some kind of slow-hands, lyrical lead behind the vocal line and watch the piece sprout wings.  Good luck with it.

I honestly think you judge too harshly.  Art has context and is in context.

I wish she'd come out with a new album... everything she did was pretty-darn-excellent.
It's as if this song was written just for her.  Absolutely beautiful.
Can't hear enough of her stuff. {#Biggrin}
First time I've heard this version of the song but I like it! Thanks RP.

Took your advice and found and downloaded the David Gray version, very nice.

It's a pretty standard folk-chord progression (I - V - I - IV), played in 6/8 time, which is the basis of thousands of songs. Generally, all of Dylan's songs are standard folk progressions.

Or sublime, as I prefer.  I wish she was more prolific.

Sub Lime

Knockout - saw her doing this on an Irish TV programme a while ago - sure it'll be up on Youtube. Gorgeous in every resepct
After Townes playing himself, two truly alternate versions of classics with Van and Sinead.

Don't get me wrong this song is pretty bad, but not that bad!{#Lol}I would like to see a contest for the worse song ever recorded, that Bryan Adams tune has to be a nominee!{#Stop}
Actually the song is wonderful, this woman just should not be allowed to sing it is all.
Beautiful song, and the way she sings it, it's in a class all it's own. 10 isn't enough for this.

Perfect for this moment

3/4 time, similar phrasing. Waltzes tend to sound alike.

I am just waiting for her to say "I am no Mermaid" any minute now ... {#Roflol}
Hey!

Just to let you know that today's music fits perfectly with the autumn mood here in the south of France.
It's dark already and it's chilly outside.
So thanks and good day to you all !

Definitely a good cover of Dylan's song.  Dylan was only a little past 20 when he did this.

Very nice, Joan, Bob, Sinead, nice mix!

Nice touch on this early Dylan song. She may be nutz, but she has (had) a great voice.

Weird. Why did I rate this a 4 last time? It's a 7, at least.

Beautious!

Wow, great cover of one of my favorite little heard Dylan songs, good job!

Yeah, it must be sad...Lol.. anyone got any statistics on movie sound tracks?.. I will warrant you could take the top 50, sum them and still fall way short of Dylan

Wow. She takes care of this one all right.
Lohan knocks this one out of the ball park doesn't she? Wow! {#Smile}

Sweet version of a Bob Dylan classic...

Ummmm. Pretty sure it was all Bob Dylan.

I have a day dream. Walk into a pub and find that the music for the evening is Sinead Lohan. Saw her sing this with Joan Baez at the Birmingham (England) Symphony Hall. Really. Sinead was terminally shy. Joan Baez was in her "Ring them bells" stage, working with all kinds of musicians including the Indigo Girls, Dar Williams, Tish Hinohosa and, blessedly, Sinead Lohan.

I know babies are important. But please sing for the rest us some more, Sinead.
