Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word
Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from Heaven
Like the first dew fall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the One Light Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day
Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word

Balmer's youth hostel, Interlaken Switzerland, summer of '89, EVERY morning at like 5 am, this woke up all us 'kids' staying there. i did not appreciate Cat Stevens' music back then but i do now. i'm glad i've matured in my old age.

To me, too - which makes it even more sad and bitter...
"Cat Stevens made some fine music which is easy to listen to without that in mind."
Not for me it is; I'm sorry... His sweet music from way back has, at least for me, lost its innocence forever.
He became a Muslim because it's a religion of peace. You'd probably say so is Christianity. There are groups in every branch that would use it as an excuse to do harm, look at the fundamentalists.. Sorry about the non-music reply, but others can't listen without bringing it up.

Not enough Cat. More please.
Very appropriate for 1/20/2021.
Ah Rick!!! I'll just leave this here Christmas Special
God this so beautiful. Is this proof we should keep talking to our (supposed) adversaries? You can see we agree on much.

Easy. What does the song say? It's beautiful, and was written long ago before he supported the fatwa. The arc of Cat Stevens' life is about a search for meaning, in religion or elsewhere. Too bad it ended in a weird place. But it's silly not to enjoy his old music, which stood out to many of us back in the day. Those old songs still mean something to me.
We would do well to accept that people are complicated beings, and people who produce great things can also do bad things. Bill Cosby did some scumbag stuff, I'm glad his chickens came home to roost, but he did some very funny stuff and I'm not going to throw it out. Likewise Kevin Spacey, and others and others.
So yeah, Yusuf Islam supported killing a man for writing a book, but Cat Stevens made some fine music which is easy to listen to without that in mind.
Edit: nowadays we call this issue "cancel culture".
This guy supported killing a man for writing a book. What's more to say, and how can anybody still listen to him without that in mind...?

Miło się budzić z tą piosenką.
Rick Wakeman on piano if I'm not mistaken.
The version which all others are judged. For me a wonderful calming.

I love this version. My only quibble is it is 'recreation' as in to create again (initial long e) as opposed to recreation with a short initial e as in what you do on the playground. Our choir director really hammered that.
I wonder if Billy Joel borrowed a little from the piano interludes between the verses here for his Piano Man...
I'm going to have to check my blood sugar by the time is over.
Don’t discuss, folks.... listen and enjoy. And no doubt, it’s a 10!

I get that because it annoys me too. I don't think adherence to a religion is a reason to abandon morality (please hear me all fundamentalist Trump supporters, which is most of you, and you are basically the same as Yusuf Islam), but I don't think that means you have to abandon the music made before the crazy cropped up.

Played this at my daughter's summer wedding last year, as it went from a rainy morning and the sun broke just in time an hour before the outdoor ceremony....so beautiful and timeless.

Fantastic. It is called the meow mix.
Why so much Cat Stevens in the mellow mix? I like him but it feels like 1 in 10 songs is Cat.

Echoing what is mentioned in the earlier post, look on YouTube for Rick Wakeman's very funny story behind him writing and performing that intro.
