No fog clear in the moonlight
The stars shine so bright now's the time
I close my eyes - soft wind touch my face
Cool sand upon the place where I once kissed you
And held you close
Now I will reach for the stars
Because Oh my love, that's where you are

Chorus
Though the storms of black night rage on
I still see your face
I still feel your lips on mine
And though my heart feels all alone without you
I still hear you sing to me
I still hear your voice on the sea

Waves crash break the silence
Gulls cry a song of lament
I walk on through the stormy night
The air cries flash of anger
Dark night enshrouds the stranger all alone without you
Now I will reach for the stars
Because Oh my love, that's where you are

Chorus

No fog clear in the moonlight
The stars shine so bright now's the time
I close my eyes - soft wind touching my face
Cool sand upon the place where I once kissed you
And held you close
Now I will reach for the stars
Because Oh my love, that's where you are

Chorus

I like the song, but I keep hearing the Doobie Bros. "Long Train Runnin'" in the guitar riff.

Indeed, sounds like the Doobie Brothers and Toad the Wet Sprocket in a blender. Which isn't too bad, but it does sound very derivative.

It's a minor 7th chord, being strummed at the same rhythm as the Doobie's tune - which also employs a Gm7 chord.  The Doobie Bros, however, did not invent the minor 7th chord, and there are far more than 10 to 12 known chords - there are about 50 chord variations for each of the 12 notes.
I was certain the first line would be 'We Don't Need No Ed-joo-kay-shun..'..'

I thought it was Great Big Sea! Lead sounds so much like Alan Doyle...

My LAST guess would have been Vertical Horizon. My FIRST would have been James Taylor. Or guest singer with DMB. Decent tune.

I believe these guys have been listening Doobie Brothers quite a bit.

That "lay you down"-bit is something I'd call 'easy to hate', but I kinda like it. A 6.
that's funny you mentioned doobie brothers. their drummer, ed toth, just signed with the doobies.

Ditto. Even stealing a classic riff doesn't save this one. I usually like VH but this just isn't doign it.
I used to earn free food playing cover songs - the set list included a number of their songs.

and I like how there's a rating of '3' the first time the song is played while it's still in it's intro...way to judge a song by the build-up. i'm going to "second" that '3'.
very different from the vertical horizon that i remember from ~2001, but i like!
I used to really like these guys. Then they totally changed their sound and the radio found them (for a while). Still dig their old stuff... like this one. Japan is an awesome song too.
yay my upload...and I like how there's a rating of '3' the first time the song is played while it's still in it's intro...way to judge a song by the build-up. Anyway, this entire live album is excellent, really shows a whole different side of Vertical Horizon from their earlier work.
