I guess you don't need it
I guess you don't want me to repeat it
But everything I have to give I'll give to you
It's not like we planned it
You tried to stay, but you could not stand it
To see me shut down slow as though it was an easy thing to do
Listen when all of this around us will fall over
I tell you what we're gonna do

Hey
You will shelter me, my love
And I, I will shelter you
I will shelter you

I left you heartbroken
But not until those very words were spoken
Has anybody ever made such a fool outta you
It's hard to believe it
Even as my eyes do see it
The very things that make you live, they're killing you
Listen when all of this around us will fall over
I tell you what we're gonna do

Hey
You will shelter me, my love
And I, I will shelter you
I will shelter you
I will shelter you
I will shelter you
I will shelter you

Listen when all of this around us will fall over
I tell you what we're gonna do

Hey
You will shelter me my love
And I, I will shelter you
If you shelter me too
I will shelter you
I will shelter you

My New England brother. Truly one of a kind.

Just a devil poo or two, she must be blindfolded, dancin' with the devil!

Agreed, so much so that my (too low) 7 is now a (just right) 9 - Long Live RP!!

It looks like - in the US at least - if you want to see Neko Case you have to buy tickets for Ray LaMontagne.  He's the main act and she's the opener.  Unfortunately the closest she's coming to where I live is 560 km away.
Solidly acceptable with strains of both ho and hum.

HEY, HEY, HEY...It's Friday afternoon and this is the 596 slow, melancholy song in a row.

Play some R n R, please.

You're not alone, tyke. Ray the Mountain usually sends me to the shelter of the PSD button.
Me likey, likey. Yep...really do. {#Daisy}

. . if you've waded into a relationship where it became "challenging", this begins to resonate more and more for some . . . for me at least.   A good piece of music in this one.
We should make sure RP has backup generators and such.  just in case  {#Whistle}
Yes, I need that.

Nice recording brownie points though.

Put me back to sleep.
I'm liking this!  Nice and mellow.

Just upped my rating from 5 to 8, then read this comment. Agree ... obviously. (Actually, I can stand all of Ray's stuff, but this one's a sleeper for me.)

Didn't want to like this guy at all... tried not to... dammit... his stuff is growing on me.  Not as open-minded as I thought I reckon.
This guys stuff is like listening to music to celebrate life with...it's fantastic{#Dancingbanana}

New album out soon. From the 5 tracks I've herad it's not brilliant. Sings a asong about Meg white !! Pretty bad too.

There are a couple of crackers though, Winter birds being a stand out track for me
Grateful Dead - Broken Down Palace.. anyone hear that in there?

Edit: Here's the hint "(Listen to the river sing sweet songs,) to rock my soul"

Surprised nobody has heard a bit of Joe Cocker in this voice...must be the gravelly nature. Sounds good.
I hear Cocker, and David Gray, and Nick Drake, and a touch of Damien Rice, too...all good artists, all underappreciated.

Funny, We all have something in common with Kelly Clarkson.
This guy fascinates me.
8 9 Had to bump this one up!
Great song... This whole album is amazing too...
in addition to this guy being a great singer/songwriter.. he is also a very nice guy in person.

New album came out today. WOO HOO!
This is a beautiful, beautiful song. Amazing, from top to bottom, start to finish. This would be a perfect "First Dance" song for a newlywed couple.
This song gives me chills, it's so gorgeous! This is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.
Ray will be on Austin City Limits this weekend (re-run) for anyone who's interested. That's the show that hooked me on Mr. LaMontagne!
Absolutely love this song, and the whole album, really.
The lyrics here always move me. This song helped me through a very tough break-up period in my life. Ray gets right to the heart of the matter here. "The very thing that makes you live, is killin' you" Sublime.

RP is still missing a few essential's from this cd such as the title track and cuts like Jolene. Don't imagine they were Sorried, so if someone has a couple of upload slots left, get to it.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLAY MORE RAY LAMONTAGNE!!!!! I beg you. Please. Please. Please. Yes, he is THAT good. His songs are very moving: "How Come", "Jolene", etc.
Does anyone else hear Damian Rice?

Let's add a little polemic just for fun, shall we? I prefer the female Norah Jones. She was there first. (Hey, I'm just playing the devil's advocate, the one you see dancing on the cover.)
excellent album.
I bought this CD the day it came out. I love it. And I agree with previous posts that say this is a powerful song.
Just saw Ray on Austin City Limits and he was great. He's got one of those voices you either love or hate... I happen to love it!
love this guy.
that was nice.
I love this song, and this album as a whole, so much. I'm delighted to hear Ray on RP! Now if I could only get y'all to play the title track...
Don't like the genre or the cigarettish hoarsish would-be-wailing voice. Another one in which melody suffers abuse or obliteration. Just read others' comments. How can this song be "stark and powerful" and also "lazy"? Scratches head. No, I don't mean it to stand for "stupid," I mean it to stand for "confusing."
I just happen to know if you are a little drunk on a nice wine, on a lake with a great view of the stars, with nothing else remotely resembling civilization closer than half an hour away and hanging out with some good friends and family, this song is a nice touch--just an observation.
Thank you RP for finally getting some Ray LaMontagne. He is from Maine and is going to be the next David Gray/Van Morrison type singer songwriter.
I love that Jazzy, slow, lazy drums in combination with the acoustic guitar. Very organic. But it's altogether a lovely, kinda magical song.
My favorite from this excellent CD. Stark and powerful. Borders on a 10.
Pretty sweet.
