A few songs ago, Billie Eilish elicited some negative comments on here. She's not my favorite, but I appreciate having her songs in the mix. Joni, though, is almost always a quick "play something different" for me. She has a certain je ne sais quoi that makes me hit the skip button.
Actually, I do think I "sais quoi". I simply find her voice unpleasant. Many (maybe most) other RPers appreciate her. To each his/her/their own.

I love this track, as she’s not too whiney. Her upper register is impressive, but to my ears, it’s way too whiney and think.

Later, when I had learned a bit more about myself and about life, I heard "For the Roses" and was completely engaged. I bought the album, and several others of Joni's following.
The evocative poetry of Joni's lyrics caught and held my attention; and still does today.
My favorite album is still "Hejira," where I believe Joni's lyrical genius merged with the musical genius of others in a wonderful series of brilliant collaborations. That album was a beloved companion to me during some dark times.

Those who play acoustic steel string guitar and delve into open tunings know how alive and sonorous your wood and strings become. A cathedral of sound. Ever place your ear to the upper bout of your guitar and then strum in open tuning? Kinda clumsy to do but...beautiful.
A twelve string moreso. The shimmer of the sympathetic strings. Mmm-mmm.

The version of this from Both Sides Now is staggering. Comparing the two performances of the same song is like looking at someone's high school yearbook photo and then looking at a picture of them as a grandparent---it's amazing.

Just have to add that one of my favorite movies is Love Actually, which includes this song in one of the more poignant scenes. It makes me tear up every time.
