If I stuck my ears to the ground
Down to the worlds that are crawling around
Shoot me up to the aeroplanes
Like a jackinabox which springs in my way
This is a nice mess, I don't feel so lonely

Deep inside the ether's air
I'm taking a lift and you're taking the stairs
Shoot me up to the aeroplanes
Like a jackinabox which springs in my way
This is a nice mess, I don't feel so lonely

Oh no, my world is on fire
Someone get some water, 'cause I think I'm gonna burn
Someone get some water, 'cause I think I'm gonna burn
Hey Joe, I'm tasting all your flavours
Ain't no piece of cake
But life ain't dishing nothing I can't take

If I stuck my ears to the ground
Down to the worlds that are crawling around
Shoot me up to the aeroplanes
Like a jackinabox which springs in my way

I can't help but hear:
"The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire
We don't need no water let the motherfcker burn"

There's something wrong with me.

I specifically came here to search for a comment like this.
Can I join your self-help group?
beautifully poppy and fun…
I'm wondering where my head has been, hearing these guys now, for the first time.
Something about this makes me think of Patti Smith

Ah curse you! Now I hear it that way too!
For a long time I thought the vocalist was female.

Nice segue from Supergrass
another great tune from a band I didn't know until recently... thanks RP!
whoever commented on the last done about thinking people are sophisticated for not equating it to the lone ranger but the fact he thought that means that he thought of the lone ranger...
Been awhile since I heard some of their earlier stuff... Reminds me how they always strike me as rocking masters of the simple groove

Yup, and getting a 4 from me.
There's that one little musical snippet in there sounds very similar to "Walk Like an Egyptian."

Or you could subscribe to their web site: https://turinbrakes.com/splash/

Sadly, I did not like the majority of other tracks on this release nearly as much as this one.  Stick w/the single...

Me too. I really like this...and most of the other stuff I've heard from them here.

This is a great overall CD, by the way.
This is the second song by them I've liked—only heard "Painkiller" and very much liked that, too.
Unlike quite a few RP listeners, I actually like Turin Brakes but it's nice to hear a more upbeat melody from them for a change (and yes I know the lyrics aren't upbeat!).
Lively foot tappin' tempo  9

Do these jokers have a song that DOESN'T talk about fire?? 2.
started with a nice groove. kept me interested for a bit but then - lunch bag let down. ultimately quite boring.
to bad for this tune! I like Turin Brakes a lot and they have many better songs than this one! only a 6 for this.

I knew I wouldn't be the first one to be so clever and post this!

i liked it the first few times i heard it. but there is such a thing as OVERKILL and this song has almost made it to overkill status on RP.

Ha! I was just thinking the same thing.

Life ain't dishin' anything I can't take...
i always think this is Luscious Jackson.
The brakes in my car won't work.
"The Roof, The Roof is on FIRE, We dont need no water let the Mutha F#vker Burn".
....happy again...
This is alot more upbeat than their other stuff..I like it
I don't know why, but this song makes me happy!
reminds me of Jude a bit.

anyone ever heard anything else by them?
I bought two of their previous CDs, based on having liked everything I heard from them here. Ether Song, and the Optimist LP. I like them both. Although this song "Jackinabox" sounds quite different from anything I remember on the other two.
anyone ever heard anything else by them?
Except she wants the fire put out, as opposed to letting the ::ahem:: burn.
The vocalist is a HE. albumcover: get it ? ^^
Great driving song!
Bought this CD because of hearing it here!! Love 'em. THANKS!!

I'll go along with that. Like it.
foreverman foreverman...
i like this tune! & that whole 'fire' 'water' 'burn' thing is pretty hilariously coincidental. :)

LOL I was thinking the same thing. "We don't need no water..."
