Maybe that it would do me good
If I believed there were a god
Out in the starry firmament
As it is, it's just a lie
And I'm here eating up the boredom
On an island of cement
Give me your ecstasy, I'll feel it
Open window and I'll steal it
Baby like it's heaven sent

This ain't no love that's guiding me

Some days I'm bursting at the seams
With all my half remembered dreams
And then it shoots me down again
I feel the dampness as it creeps
I hear you coughing in your sleep
Beneath a broken window pane
Tomorrow, girl, I'll buy you chips
A lollipop to stain your lips
And it'll all be right as rain

This ain't no love that's guiding me
This ain't no love that's guiding me

No, it ain't no love guiding me
No, it ain't no love guiding me
No, it ain't no love guiding me

This ain't no love that's guiding me
This ain't no love that's guiding me

On winter trees the fruit of rain
Is hanging trembling in the branches
Like a thousand diamond buds
Waiting there in every pause
That old familiar fear that claws you
Tells you nothing ain't no good
Pulling back you see it all
Down here so laughable and small
Hardly a quiver in the dirt

This ain't no love that's guiding me

not played in 10 YEARS!
THIS JUST WRONG!
cool.
We need to hear more DAvid gray at RP.
*sigh*
Yes!

Thank you!
I'm a David Gray fan. I'd like to hear his music played more here on RP. He did get too much commercial play for a while there, but that doesn't take away from his incredible talent. I'll give this one a 9.

That's absolutely chilling, I am so so sorry. Every day I am thankful that my 2 daughters are fine, but you just never know... May you find some peace.

I can't imagine what it must be like to get hit with an emotional trigger like this good song, brander. I'm sorry.

How sad, brander. Sorry to hear about that. You have my sympathy, and I would think, lots more from other RP listeners.

Geez. A downer when paying attention to the lyrics, but I like it. Sorry to say that this is perfect mood music right now
I've always strayed away from this guy ever since an ex insisted on leaving his songs on my answering machine, but this one is absolutely beautiful. What pure, poetic harmonies! 8 from me, and another shot! (for David Gray, not the ex...)
Nice to hear David Gray on RP - doesn't happen too often. Thanks.

It is odd, isn't it? Not sure it gels with the melancholia that follows it.

Yes.

Well, I guess I'm a completely tasteless individual since I find him talented and his work heartfelt. At least I found this out now with more of my life ahead of me than behind. On a less judgemental note, about 10 minutes before "Ain't No Love" came on (and it isn't close to my favorite on this album) I began surfing davidgray.com seeing what he was up to since we last saw him in NYC & Atlanta. Before I know it, the RP plays him. Coincidence? I think so. I mean, what else could it be?

I totally agree
Still it beats the sound coming from that Afrikaner wanker... can't remember his name.

lush and epic....

How about going back even further than that: Flesh, Century Ends....
That's what I'm talking about.. the older DG stuff is unbelievalble. "Birds without wings" so poetic.

I am here updating the old Ipod, and I hesitate to rip this CD b/c of some wacky thing the record company added to the CD to keep folks from pirating it. :-( Anyone know where I can get a patch? Site of record company?
Just type: 'Sony Patch' into Goggle

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this man's work, but that said, could we hear something off of his older albums, please? (White Ladder, A New Day at Midnight...) Thanks Bill!

Note to all DG detractors. This is poetry. Yes, sometimes bleak, sometimes depressing, just like life. It's all about the words. Just listen...
I like this song, but dude...Music is NEVER just about the words or it wouldn't be music. You can never ignore that.
definitely a song of hope; there's a lot of hope in that music, otherwise it couldn't be so lovely. so now, do you all hear the hope in the lyrics? (hint: just as the answer is contained in the question, the hope is contained in the pessimism)
he's good but, it always makes me sad...

Sounds like John Prine to me, especially at the beginning.

If he's speaking for himself in this song, filled with atheism and angst, then I feel sorry for him. But it is a beautiful song. Sometimes DG's delivery is a little nasal-y for my taste, but this song works in a touching, sad way. Not bad.
Terrible beautiful atmosphere in this piece.

David Gray always moves me & makes me feel a bit sad. "Jet Black" comes to mind... God, how I hope that all is well. Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart. simply.... ((((((((((( T. )))))))))))))

That's how it is sometimes.

Of course it is slow, it's on the "Life In Slow Motion" CD. Go ahead and shoot up if you so desire, but I do not wish death upon a fellow RP listener. BTW, I like this cut, very nice...
I thought this was pretty enjoyable... and I'm usually not a huge David Gray fan.

Wow, yet another new David Gray!
