He's got his work and she comes easy
They each come around when the other is gone
Me, I think I got stuck somewhere in between

I wouldn't confide in the Prodigal Son
The die has been cast, the battle is won
The bullets were blanks, a double aught gun
I couldn't admit to a minute of fun

They come and they come and they come and they come
I accepted with a gentle tongue
No words spoken, no need to speak

Take it, stomp twice, ring the bell
Tether that ring and phrase
Enough with the rifle and talk already
We all know what it means

Take this conversation to your great divide
I can only swallow what I ate
And I don't hate him
And I don't hate her

They come and they come and they come and they come
I accepted with a gentle tongue
No heart broken, no need to speak

''(Don't talk to me)''
Don't talk to me about being alone
''(Don't talk to me)''
Don't talk to me about being alone
''(Don't talk to me)''
Don't talk to me about being alone

Reach for each other before you leave
Reach peace with a E-A-C
Don't threaten me with a gentle tease
Don't threaten me with angry

Please, please, please
Don't try to tell me what I am

They come and they come and they come and they come
I accepted with a gentle tongue
No heart spoken, no need to speak

''(Don't talk to me)''
Don't talk to me about being alone
''(Don't talk to me)''
Don't talk to me about being alone
''(Don't talk to me)''
Don't talk to me about being alone
''(Don't talk to me)''
Don't talk to me

''(Talk to me)''
Don't talk to me
''(Don't talk to me)''
Don't talk to me
''(Talk to me)''
Don't talk to me about being alone

This just makes me appreciate Automatic for the People that much more.
I'm hearing one (or both) of the B-52s ladies. I like it.

Might have to pick up this CD, what a lineup!

Me too.  The score is also great. And I love the movie.

Weren't they still pretty great 20 years ago?

Yea, that is pretty much when they were replaced by mopey, lame aliens.
I love this soundtrack. Probably my favorite soundtrack of songs, from top to bottom.

This is one of those REM songs that I don't think I like much when it starts, but by the time it's over I'm really into it.
Wow....for a minute there I was afraid I didn't have this tune!  It's on a very obscure greatest hits that no one probably has has except the most die hard fans.  Only on RP does this happen I guess!

Shocker
Wow!!  I haven't heard this song in AGES.  I remember this film and soundtrack very well—was a student at the University of Vienna (Austria)—can't believe it's been almost 20 years...

Sorry to say but this is great and they will never lost it.

How about this Mike: I won't talk to you if you agree to not sing to me.  Deal?

Done. Now be quiet while he sings to the rest of us.

Great Soundtrack!-Nick Cave, Talking Heads, Jane Siberry, Elvis Costello, U2 , very solid
SUCH a good soundtrack! Brings back memories.

Man, this soundtrack is a treasure trove of gems.
Goodness. Aren't we glad that the 80's/90's cusp is long gone?
I've been an REM fan since Reckoning. (I liked Murmer, but didn't buy it until '84).

I'm not a Michael hater at all, but this sort of thing makes me want to turn on some Vanilla Ice.

Is that Kate Pearson with him in the back?

Probably.  They're old friends from Athens, GA.

Is that Kate Pearson with him in the back?
I guess I would have expected The end of the world as we know it to be the song in this soundtrack and not this one.
This sounds like a Wim Wenders movie:  Thin, slightly dazed and plaintive.  Not among their better efforts, IMHO.

One of the many reasons I love RP is hearing deep cuts, such as this track.
