Givin' sight to the blind
My baby's lovin' cause the sun to shine
She's my sweet little thang
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby
I'm her little lover boy
Yeah I love my baby....Heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thang
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby
I'm her little lover boy
Yeah I love my lady
She's long and lean
You mess with her
You'll see a man get mean
She's my sweet little thang
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby
I'm her little lover boy
Well I love my baby
Like the finest wine
Stick with her until the end of time
She's my sweet little thang
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby
I'm her little lover boy
Yeah I love my baby
Heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thang
She's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby
I'm her little lover boy
I like to think I don't let "hype" or the lack of it color my opinion of an artist. Who cares? I like what I like.
I lived in the DC area for many years - saw some incredible guitarists - SRV and his brother, Buchanan, Jeff Beck, Danny Gatton, Robert Cray, Chris Spedding, Link Ray, Robert Fripp, Todd Rundgren (my personal favorite guitarist), Dave Alvin, Richard Thompson, David Hidalgo & Cesar Rosas, Johnny Ramone - all playing essentially the same instrument yet they all had very unique and individual styles.
Yes but SRV did NOT have his own distinct style. He was directly biting on Jimi and a host of others.
11 even though it was written when he was in love with his first wife which didn't end well. The rythm is standard 12 bar blues in the key of E, although SRV's playing is far from standard. Its really hard to play it like he did.
Thanks for that. Anyone know the BPM of this thing, cos I can't click it for toffee...
Ohhhh, man -- if I could travel back in time to catch live performances, SRV would definitely be on the priority list ....
Yeah, I remember when I had a chance to go see SRV with a friend, but we didn’t know the part of town that he was playing in, so we figured we’d catch him the next time around. Yeah, that was April 1990. Never, ever again will I say “Next time."

Lubbock, Texas had a BYOB club called the Cotton Club. SRV used to come through regularly with The Cobras and then Triple Threat*. Underage could get in since liquor wasn't sold there. Good times.
* Triple Threat was SRV, WC Clark and Angela Strehli. Awesome! And as you know, after Triple Threat came Double Trouble.

in my mind i travel back to the Danville, IL Civic Center, 1988, every time i hear an SRV song. what a great show! still in my top 5 concerts of all time. long live SRV and RP.
Second SRV song I've heard for the first time on RP today that I never got to rate. 20 points total.
what else could those fingers do?
E flat, actually (he played tuned down). Great in any key.
Ha! Wonder how he bent those fat strings like that - tuned down a fret. Thanks for that SRV nugget!
Lucky dog indeed! My wife (who is a tad older than I am) has a lot of similar stories of seeing bands in their early years, most famously was AC/DC who opened for Ted Nugent and were nearly booed off the stage....too soon I guess for the crowd to appreciate. Anyways, I'm this close to making this track a 10 since it's about my wife....ok...it's a 10 now...Long Live RP!!
So true - and helps when you can play with strings as big as electrical cabling :)
You can never escape DEVO, you can only try to contain them!

It's not that Stevie "couldn't play for shit" it was the HYPE which surrounded the guy at the time. If you were there then you may recall the absurdity of it. The one time I did see Stevie his warmup (Roy Buchanan) blew him away. Alas, since the brilliant Roy resembled your uncle the English teacher, no hype surrounded him.

Yeah a bit of hype I'd agree, but then SRV has done some pretty great stuff. Might have been his drinking issue sometimes but later on he got free of it. OTOH, anyone can have an off night while someone else is having a pretty good one.
WOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!
Yeah, Stevie Ray couldn't play worth a shit. Might as well have Mick Jagger on guitar.

Nice set, Bill.
"SRV - a true rock guitar pioneer. And what a story; he survives and sobers up after years of alcohol and drug abuse only to die in a helicopter crash at the top of his career. Life really is not fair..."
Agree with your sentiment, but it is death which is not fair.
LOL - Wasn't me but I'm surprised too to see that anyone would rate it less than 6 . Even without liking this kind of rock, anyone should be able to hear the talent !
That'll be your drugs kicking in.
I just listened to the song again, and the backbeat stays constant---I'm guessing the killer solo at the end is speeding it up in your mind.
edit: I've tried everything until I hit 128bpm but I can't keep time with it.
"You don't think it was because a white man wrote it, a black man wrote it, a green man wrote it? What - doesn't make a difference! Doesn't make a difference. I think he did a good job."

Really? Then you haven't listened to Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. Both I would place equal to any rock guitarist that ever lived.
I'm loving Gary Clark Jr right now.....
i miss him.
In my 42 + years on this-here planet, I have yet to hear more distinct and amazing sounds from the following 3 players:
Jeff Beck
Jimi Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Do yourself a favor and pick up Stevie Ray's box set (3CD + 1DVD).....it is simply called SRV. Came out in 2000. Amazing!!

N.B.: Can you just imagine what the Heavenly Music Groups will be like? I mean, can you imagine Robert Johnson on 12-string, Jimi on electric, SRV on Lead, Red Callender on slap bass, Keith on Drums ... ? OMG! Take me real soon now Lord!
Wales agrees....well I do :)
We're out of Drano, would you settle for Liquid Plumber instead?
How about a money shot?

And Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," which you rated a '10' is not?
He can't play... he's dead.
Yeah ? But the dead can dance ...
He can't play... he's dead.
Attention on the deck! Captain Obvious is in the room!
Gotta love rumors
He can't play... he's dead.
I miss you Stevie.....

More respect for this artist who no longer is among us.
Note: It is understood the exercise of the right of copyright, which must be exercised and respected. In the first line and most important - in Counterfeiting - piracy.
But I also understand that should not be used this mechanism blindly and abrupt and aggressive (as I said, characteristic of monopolistic market), without weight, measure and account, especially in the excerpts shown on YouTube or similar sites, excerpts from which are only demos (demos), most low or medium quality, short duration, which can in no way prejudice the editors of the Complete Works of high quality (DVD). Who is buying that high-grade material, is not satisfied with the small sample of YouTube. No way.
Instead, these short excerpts of Live performances of artists, only help the spread of the artist, but also help those commercially Companies.
The indiscriminate and persecution, citing the Copyright, from published material on YouTube already has another nature, and can only be interpreted as envy, blatant and arrogant jealousy, non-compliance with the artists, non-compliance with the users of the site (which punctuate, mark favorite and make comments) and non-compliance with the entire Music Community, whose videos are then are devastated (removed) through aggressive and arrogant. No.
It is a misconduct that only harms the image of these companies trade labels, which can be interpreted as arrogance, avarice, desperation and commercial greed.
Please gentleman, live and let live.
Great venue. I saw a half-dozen shows there (lived in ABQ '96-'04), but nothing quite like Stevie must have been; wonderful intimate setting for a show like that.
Yeah, pretty much anything by SRV!
Yeah, buddy. RIP SRV.
