Those who start wars, never fight them
And those who fight wars, they never like them
And those who write laws, can recite them
And those who fight laws, they live and die by them

But I know its time
Yes I know its time
It's time to go home
It's time to go home
It's time to go home
It's time to go home

Don't take our boys away
Don't take our girls away
Don't take our boys away
Don't take our girls away

Those who build walls are pretending
That forever they can defend them
Those who dam streams can build fountains
Those of us who just let them run free
Can move mountains

But I know its time
Time To Go Home
Yes I know its time
It's time to go home
It's time to go home
It's time to go home
It's time to go home

And I say, you whoooo
you whoooo who who who, you whoooo who who who

Doves fly by in the morning light
Leaves fall down on a passer by
Phone call comes and a mamma cries
Tears stream down from a daddy's eyes(X2)

But I know its time
Yes I know its time
It's time to go home
It's time to go home
It's time to go home
It's time to go home

God Bless this man!  His soul, his message, his spirit...all authentic.
I have read a few people call Mr. Franti a 'white boy with dreadlocks.' Something at the tip of my spine knew that wasn't quite right...
Wikipedia had the most concise breakdown:

"His mother had Irish, German, and French ancestry, and his father, Thomas Hopkins, was of African-American and Native American descent."

And, where exactly is the line between hip-hop and reggae? This one's blurry to my ears...

And yet, this is not really reggae, is it? The neighbors over the fence from my house play lots of Jamaican reggae at high volume with great frequency. That's the real thing and this is not. The best analogy I ever heard was to American hillbilly music (not a pejorative comment). There are some similarities.

Currently going through M.F. withdrawls.......since his show here 2 weeks ago. Thanks for playing this!!!!!
Now what if Tori Amos and Michael Franti, the two most annoying artists of RP would do a duet?
Oy, it's the white kids with dreadlocks. TRUSTAFARI!
Why is it that we don't hear many political songs nowadays? The need is greater than ever.

Is it just because 'protest' songs don't sell? Or is it because people don't like to be reminded of all the horrors of the world they live in?

Speak for yourself - as far as I'm concerned, there's not enough pot.

Here's an article I wrote for the local newspaper when I was free-lancing. Of course, it didn't get published, but it's a true story...
I'm starting to really appreciate the counter-syncopation of reggae music. "Ghetto of my Mind" by Rickie Lee Jones reminded me of Bob Marley and the Wailers. Dang - the man died too soon. I remember the first time I ever heard reggae. I was in a bar called the RanchInn, in Elko, and every Friday and Saturday night, it had live music. I'd just gotten off work early to meet a friend there for a drink. There was a cheesy lounge-lizard act doing horrible '70's covers. Suddenly, they began this sort of herky-jerky rhythm on bass and the dance floor cleared. It was "Jammin'" by Bob Marley. It was reggae, and no one in the backward little town of Elko knew how the hell to dance to it. Except for one guy - a slightly overweight, bookish-preppie-looking guy named Chris Valentine and wouldn't you know he figured I'd be the perfect dance partner? I was too polite to decline and too mortified to give it much thought.

Once we were out there on the floor, I watched Chris for a moment. He had the perfect dance steps for reggae - moving with the off-beat. I closed my eyes, began to feel the music, and before I knew it, I was the first girl in Elko to dance to reggae.

It took a week to get the tar and feathers out of my hair.

In domestic policy, not so much.  But then it is awfully hard to effect change when the 'Publicans (and sinners) have a policy of saying "No" to EVERYTHING (even programs, such as the health care reform which THEY originally proposed.)

So, do I regret having Obama in the White House instead of McCain?  What do you think?

Quite interesting to listen to this in a period of time when the great migration to the country side has started here, in Beijing, and the railway stations, bus stations, airports begin to be packed because of the Sping Festival big return.

Not the same meaning as in the song, yet, in times when every 4 graduated students on 5 didn't find a job and is camping in the suburb of Beijing in the worst conditions ever -shelter, no sanitation, little food, temperatures below zero- because going back home is impossible: its' another war and it leaves millions of people on the sideroads. What is the most frightening in this situation is that they could probably create their own jobs in the country side where there is a huge lack of upper and middle mangement, and creators. But their own families only value the success gained outside, preferably in the legendary cities, and of course Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou area are the ultimate myths.
That's why they sacrified their lives, paying huge tuition fees for their only child to be a success in the city. This song, has this meaning to me, when I am in this area and see the thousands of students - some say ten thousand- being lost.
And from what I've heard, Beijing is not the only city where this occurs.
Edit : By reading older comments here I realized I definitely totally missed the point - I didn't think about THIS war whatsoever.
I love RP: it's one of these places where I've seen people posting comments with totally opposed point of views without to go to extremes, even keeping a sense of humor and not fuelling the grudge.

builds nicely, pretty good tune
the thing with Radio Paradise is that you can't just write a comment about one particular song without considering it in the context of the entire set ... that's what's so cool about RP ... before this was Dylan — Positively 4th St ... 'you gotta a lotta nerve ..."
I can feel the love in these comments....

Bill, can you find a pro-war song to make some of these people happy?

Meanwhile, what I like is how the treatment of the vocal track on this song makes it play off nicely with the percussion in the quieter sections, and is still prominent in the louder passages without getting in the way of the other instruments.

If I had to represent Ukraine and choose between two Imperialisms - US or Russia, I would probably choose to be a part of European multi-national forces. Build strong own ones and add to joint level of protection.

Do you really think that if our government knew that attack was coming they would have allowed thousands of innocent citizens to be killed on our soil?

Kennedy seriously considered sending a plane of American students to Cuba to try and get it shot down to provide a reason to invade.  The plan was deemed to have too many variables and was dropped.

In 1972, it came out that the US Gov't had spent the past 40 years running experiments on 500 black men without their consent and in the course of it, withheld necessary medical treatments from them because it would've interfered with the results of the experiment.

And there's any number of occasions where the CIA has been working with organized crime, particularly drug traffickers, in exchange for money and/or resources. How many hundreds of thousands (millions?) of American citizens did they help become addicts? How many American families got ruined?

Put your question in that context.

I'm not saying the US gov't did or did not have something to do with 911.  I'm saying that there's a mentality in the Intelligence Industry (and I'm using that phrase because I'm not just singling out the US on this) that's cold and surreal.  Things that you or I would refuse instantly and reject as stupid they'll consider if they think they can get away with it.

Radical leadership? Looked at the White House lately?

Comments from Poland? Gimme a break. We invited Poland into NATO, agreeing to defend her againt Russia. What do we get in return? The Polish regime is refusing us permission to site 10 anti-missile missiles on Polish soil, unless we pay Poland billions for the privilege...buying Poland an air defense system. Those 10 missiles would be there to protect the Pols and the rest of Europe.

We should tell the Pols to buy their own defensive systems, and leave Europe (and NATO) to defend herself.
