if you're in the Islands, this band is foundational and promoted the good times vibe of a pau hana or weekend bbq at the beach.  Chee-hoo!

Yeah--its Rodrigo & Grabriela and Jake Shimabukuro had a threesome, and this band was the result. (Don't ask me to explain that.)

You deplore surfers or deplore not being one?

Seven, right in -between six 'that's not bad but...' and eight 'hey that's really good'
Guitare espagnole virtuose et inhabituelle.

Head up Palolo Valley.
I'm with all the morning listeners, it's a light and beautiful music to start the day with.
Good morning from Beijing!

Well done! The Ka'au Crater Boys do a masterful job of blending traditional Hawaiian music with more mainland sounds. It makes for a very accessible and enjoyable blend of music. And they are very skilled musicians as well.

Sounds like the Hawaiian version of Jimmy Buffett without lyrics/vocals. I like this much better.

Mr. Stingray, I challenge you to go to Hawaii and learn a bit about the culture and still have this response to the music.
Sometimes you have to understand something in order to appreciate its beauty or worth. Like all art.

I'm sorry that you need to attack things on a personal level, that you just don't like the style of.

Anyway, I love this.
wonderful cross between Ranchera and Slack Key, love it! <3

I see a few comments re: Hawaiian guitar – just want to point out that the lead is being played on a ukulele, for what it's worth.

The Ka'au Crater Boys were great, and I'm glad to see this relatively obscure (on the mainland, anyway) now-defunct Hawaiian group on RP. This group deserves a lot of credit for making more traditional Hawaiian music "cool" again to the younger generation in Hawaii in the 90s. Jake Shimabukuro's first band, Pure Heart, grew out of this renaissance. And no matter how you feel about this track, you'd have to be dead not like Jake Shimabukuro's music, or at the very least admire his skill.

So give the Ka'au Crater Boys some love!

Don't forget Keola Beamer and his brothers!

Scrolled down; I realise others think so too!

I know this is not 'slack key' per se but it is so familiar towards the 'culture', I love it!

Doesn't really deserve a response, but here goes.....FYYFF.

Good sounds for mornings. Keep playing
{#Propeller}  festive.  I can't understand why something like this is so polarizing.  Zappa, now that should be polarizing.

Yehaw inu ho'omaika'i!

Unpleasant at best.

Light, sunny, and wonderful!

I disagree. This is wonderful music.

Y'know, just because something doesn't appeal to you personally—and there is a great deal of this apparently on RP, judging from your song comments—doesn't negate either its artistic value or its sheer fun quotient. You might lighten up a bit, or simply change the channel. Y'know...vote with your feet. I promise that no one will stop you.

Well said!!!! {#Clap}

So is the standard "has lyrics = music?" Using that metric, Die Zauberflöte is music, but Mozart's 40th symphony isn't, I guess. Riiiight...
This is really pleasant first thing in the morning. :good-vibes:

These guys can play! The songwriting isn't bad either. I'm hearing a lot of spanish style along with a touch of surf music and hawaiian style. Mahalo!

Yeah it definitely has some Flamanco in it...but then again Buena Vista Social Club, and Paco De Lucia are both Spanish and both in the Caribbean
