Mister fixit has apparently been hanging out with Mr. Spaz. Gomez was not meant to be a cover band, but this is sounding better as it goes along. And it is NOTHING like the original.
OK, OK, for the sake of peaceful coexistence, I'll remove some of my commentary iconography. Here:
At the risk of offending the flamers ("DUCK!") and the plain displeased, I like Gomez a lot, and this is a decent cover of a song, which, like a lot of Beatles' songs, has gotta be a bitch to even try. So hats off to Gomez for trying and succeeding--even if its not a clone of the original. Okay, lay it on me now...

I never cared for the original and this is quite similar to the original. Thus, thanks for playing, but no thanks.

I like it.

The Worst I have Ever Heard on R.P. The End
Um, wow. I generally like Gomez, but this sucks teabags...
read somewhere, I think on the gomez website that they recorded this drunk as hell late late one night, sounds like it, and sounds fine to me, go gomez go....
more from this album please! how about the mmj track or the widespread panic covers?? lots of good stuff on here. most everyone does the band justice with their covers. i like gomez but think that this is one of the weaker ones on the album. so whadda say bill?
Worst cover ever!

I like Gomez...but, WTF...if it ain't broke....
That's EXACTLY what I was going to say.
yikes!
Really............................
This tires quickly. Next.
I really enjoy different interpretations of great old songs, this one certainly qualifies!
I like Gomez...but, WTF...if it ain't broke....

This song actually made me turn of RP and listen to the real song on vinyl. So... thanks Bill?
...when are we going to hear some Zappa again?...
Oh my. I wish I hadn't had that pastry prior to this
This song actually made me turn of RP and listen to the real song on vinyl. So... thanks Bill?
Blech. I love Gomez, but this is wan and anemic.
I really love Gomez as well, but I can see no redeeming social value in covering this song that, in my opinion, was done perfectly the first time. And cleaning it up was that last thing that it needed.
If one is going to cover a classic band on a tribute album, one might at least try to get the lyrics right.
Hello, I love The Band, and Gomez usually leaves me cold, but I like this one... Neil
Love The Band, like Gomez more and more, but this one, on first listen, really doesn't do it for me . . .

Good god the Band sucks, why cover them?
Agreed.
Generally speaking I like Gomez. But some covers seem totally superfluous. This is one. I could've gone my entire life without hearing this and all would've been well. The original version of this song still rules.
Good god the Band sucks, why cover them?

I like the yodeling !
I, too, am a Band fan, but don't care much for this cover, nor for other's I've heard from this album. Maybe it was the Band that I liked, not so much the songs.

It's just simply boring.
Agreed!!! Did Bill wake up in a karoake mood this morning? I can't believe all the awful cover versions of great songs I'm hearing today.

Kind of an unnecessary cover.Nothing has been changed or done better.
Totally agree. I wish they had Gomezified it.
Okay, its from a tribute album. That makes sense. Otherwise, like, why bother? I like the Band, but that's no reason to offer covers of all their tunes. What made their music special was them.
not a favorite, but it was tolerable. until the yodeling.
Which is kind of funny since I shall be released was a Band cover of Dylans tune KevinM wrote:
I like it. My 3 favorites on the CD are this one, Jack Johnson covering I Shall Be Released and Lee Ann Womack covering The Weight. I can pass on all the others

Bill - you just mentioned that this wasn't getting good listener reviews. I must concur with those folk - I can't stand this version - its so so cheesy!!!. This is one of my favorite shower songs so on this one, I haven't heard any better than the original. 1
I have to agree, I don't know how you could sing this song differently, maybe thats the problem. the_bink wrote:
This cover is not needed. Not different enough to be interesting. Not as good as the origional. A bad copy.
...And you guys rejected my "Dub Side of the Moon" Uploads??!!! Sheeesh! Rating: 1
so the dj announces this song as one no one likes I think i gotta agree
oh bill.
I like it. My 3 favorites on the CD are this one, Jack Johnson covering I Shall Be Released and Lee Ann Womack covering The Weight. I can pass on all the others
because some people just have a visceral bad reaction to covers, especially of beloved songs. i don't have that reaction, and i guess you don't either. good for us. etwilson wrote:
Why? It doesn't really sound much different. I would have liked it if they had tried to mix things up a little, this sounds like the exact same arrangement as the Band's. This just seems a little redundant.

oooh...this one is going to make a lot of those who love the original ANGRY! looking at that list of bands on the album cover, though, i'd be interested to see what song my morning jacket and death cab covered...
My Morning Jacket - It Makes No Difference Death Cab For Cutie - Rockin' Chair
Why would anyone be upset by a tribute album? Gomez is a great band and this just acknowleges the influences on their music. I think this is a bang up job and I'm going to seek out this album and see if the other artists have done as good a job covering a favourite group of mine.
This cover is not needed. Not different enough to be interesting. Not as good as the origional. A bad copy.

I agree -- actually I think the Monkees could have done a lot better.

I was thinking the same thing. I do like this version.

SWEET - good to hear some new GOMEZ - got this cd a couple weeks ago. Its cool to hear different takes on old BAND classics.
This is ok, mostly because the original song is great. This version is really neither here nor there.
Kind of an unnecessary cover. Nothing has been changed or done better. I give this a 4 because 4 monkeys could have done this just as well. However since 4 monkeys couldn't have created it I would give the original an 8 even though it sounds about the same.
Gomez is awesome - this is a wonderful cover of a classic
Ok. I like both The Band's version and some Gomez originals better...
Interesting version. Need to hear more to rate.
They could have let this one alone!
