Riding waves of sound
300 mile from Metropolitan
Grapes of wrath all around
Riding waves of sound

Breath on lines everyone's story
Find a spot until the names are called
Times will pull in all directions
Be the barker for the traveling show

15 times from the edge of eternity
Nerves that shake have been chased away
There is a girl that I want to see
On each side of that marching drum

Riding waves of sound
300 mile from Metropolitan
Grapes of wrath all around
Riding waves of sound

Break up the old drug pound story
Tortured soul wears an ego sleeve
Heavy hearts and heavy hitters
Bards disease finds the killing floor

Straight from her two lanes of freedom
Unconquered souls delivered each day
Gasoline junkies feral diesel fiends

Oh ya...love it.
This is like someone ran Patty Griffin\'s \"One Big Love\" through a blender. Not good.
Growin\' on me.

Yes. Yes you should.
Every time I hear this song, I like it a little bit better. I\'d somehow never heard Son Volt until earlier this year, but I really like them.

Every time I hear this song it grates on me a bit more... he sounds like he's behind an inch of cotton and his voice (not that I've got one to compare) quivers on some sustained notes. I dunno. I just don't like this song.

Waits and Dylan maybe... This is such a great song. One of his recent best.
With a name like Son Volt, I expected an aging or deceased blues artist.

At first that voice was Barenaked Ladies. Very Odd.
Wow you can tell they're naked just by listening to their voices. I don't suppose you can see them as well can you?

Ditto.
Well, that was some pretty good action going on there.

He reminds me of the singer of the Ass Ponies. Now of Wussy.
nope. no good.
I thought I didn't like their new stuff....but I actually like this... maybe i need to reconsider and check this album out.

I agree. 50/50 cool/cheezy for me too. Could go either way.
Had to move it up to 7. Way more cool going on in there than cheesy I think. Good lord I'm replying to myself. Actually this goes to handyrae. Maybe you should play it louder. Definitely growing on me...
Love it! I'm totally digging the new CD and can't wait 'til they tour.
I like the music but not Farrar's vocal on this. And that's strange b/c there was a time 10 years ago that I thought Farrar had one of the best vocal deliveries around. Smoking must have done something to his voice since then.

Sounds more like a Jay Farrar disc than Son Volt. Is Jay's voice becoming Eddie Vedder-ish?

The two songs I've heard on RP from this new album seem like quite a departure from earlier Son Volt work.
