I really dig this! I love how the beats and some of the instruments remind me of Les Negresses Vertes, but Mr. Backer's vocals and songwriting are truly unique!
Do yourself a favor and get all of Goyte's albums

Love Photek! But there is no connection.
There's not a LOT of classic drum breaks to sample, so my guess is they sampled the same breakbeat.
For people who wonder WHAT is Photek, have a listen to this classic, probably his biggest 'hit' :)

This guy is one of the best musicians I've heard in years. His songs are like mini-epics, with a beginning, middle, and end. So much is happening in these songs, even though they on the surface are like other repeating-lyric pop tunes. I just love the subtle transitions he hides throughout his songs.

I too thought it sounded very similar to Fatboy for the first 35 seconds or so. Then the song became so much more. Almost three songs in one. But in a good way.

I love the instrumentation, the shawm (?) and the percussive accordion notes in the background. This sounds like a band that Peter Gabriel might have on his label. A good thing, IMHO.

I think this song is kinda Beck-ish, the others not so much.

well bills pronouciations aren't always spot on, for example he pronounces Kasabian, pronounced 'kasaybian' here in the uk 'kasarbian'.
I'm glad Bill's told us the correct pronunciation of Gotye - gor-tee-ay apparently - as otherwise I'd have guessed at "Gotcha", ignorant peasant that I am ;-)
Amazon in the UK now have this for £9.99 - at last, because I couldn't face paying the imported price and I've been dying to get hold of it after hearing it on RP. Phew...

This is a unique album. Each song has it's own sound.

Until the vocals started, with that odd instrument (shawm?), this sounded a lot like something from Peter Gabriel's "Passion". The vocals changed that. Still, a nice song!
