Calm down now baby
The end of the journey's in sight
You've travelled so far love
Now all of the stars are aligned

Say goodbye (I don't want to)
Don't you fight (I don't want to)
Leaving your life's no easy ride

All the grief you gave
All the love you made
All your yesterdays
Everything you were
Will fade

This is the only way

All the things you thought
you came here for
Everything you thought
you knew for sure
No meandering
No more wondering
Everything is true

All the things you thought you had to say
Everyone you left along the way
So you gather how
Nothing matters now that your time is through

This is the only way

Good shtuff!

That is why we come here.  Thanx RP!

Super song and singer. Many thanks  RP.
you like Goyte, check out D.D Dumbo, very good as well, some master at looping
I really dig this! I love how the beats and some of the instruments remind me of Les Negresses Vertes, but Mr. Backer's vocals and songwriting are truly unique!
Do yourself a favor and get all of Goyte's albums
Man - this is beck 2.0 --- never come over the radio hit a few years ago... but hey! this rocks! thanx rp!

Beck, Radiohead, Yello?

Am I the only one who thought, "hey Bill's playing some Fatboy Slim!" the first time they heard this tune?

Anyway, very dope chopped beats on this one.  Gotye is a very dynamic musician!

YEAH, man; that was pretty tasty, eh?  No idea about Photek, but will follow the link from ExploitingChaos and get educated.
Chunky little tune.

I dig.

Love Photek! But there is no connection.

There's not a LOT of classic drum breaks to sample, so my guess is they sampled the same breakbeat.

For people who wonder WHAT is Photek, have a listen to this classic, probably his biggest 'hit' :)
Dig the Eastern influences!

He can remind me of Ian Brown with the production. Stellar!

And with the new website, with Wiki popping up next to the comments, I learned that Gotye's real name is Wouter De Backer....so double kudos to RP...I might have to bump my 7 to an 8 on this one....Long Live RP!!

I think we have other options...but I still like this way.

This guy is one of the best musicians I've heard in years.  His songs are like mini-epics, with a beginning, middle, and end.  So much is happening in these songs, even though they on the surface are like other repeating-lyric pop tunes.   I just love the subtle transitions he hides throughout his songs.

I too thought it sounded very similar to Fatboy for the first 35 seconds or so.  Then the song became so much more.  Almost three songs in one.  But in a good way.

Beck, Radiohead, Yello?

Is this really the only way?

You can order it directly from Wally's (Gotye) website, for something like $16US, which is what I did (and got a nice email from him). It's a good cd, and I'm glad I got it. He's quite talented!

seconded. I ordered it too, no problems, and Wally sent it very promptly.

I loved the beginning of this one, but the middle part really lost me. 6

I'd love to get this CD also but not for $50 US. Imports really show you how much in the tank the dollar is. The price of this has gone up $20 bucks in just a few months.

I love the instrumentation, the shawm (?) and the percussive accordion notes in the background. This sounds like a band that Peter Gabriel might have on his label. A good thing, IMHO.

Love it, this is possibly not the only but never the less a damned good way!

I've read frequent comparisons drawn with Beck elsewhere, but when I listen to all of the tracks, it reminds me more of Dimitri from Paris' Sacrebleu (albeit less Lounge) in its level of creative composition. I'm truly impressed by Wally DeBacker. If you like this sort of thing and are planning any road trips, do yourself a favor and pick this up (I found a new copy on eBay for $15, plus modest shipping). Very cleverly done overall and as background music for driving it's superb.
I think this song is kinda Beck-ish, the others not so much. And it is good road trip music - got it just in time for a 1700 mile Easter break trip. I got it it direct from Australia - about $21 with shipping and it came in just a few days.
STRANGE...
Just settling in for another Saturday of school planning, marking here at home - and RP keeping me company, of course. Who IS this? I can't keep track of the number new sounds I've heard here since listening regularly for the last few months. Love the groove of this artist. Must do some research.
Jazzy.
Gor-tee-yeah Love it. Love it all. What a guy.

I am hearing some Radiohead.....
Just keeps getting better for me...

Try the Audrey's website. There's a link to a store in Canada. It looks like you need Paypal, but $15 CAD doesn't look unreasonable.
Thanks! A huge help. $15 is perfectly acceptable.
Groovy!

well bills pronouciations aren't always spot on, for example he pronounces Kasabian, pronounced 'kasaybian' here in the uk 'kasarbian'.

Amazon in the UK now have this for £9.99 - at last, because I couldn't face paying the imported price and I've been dying to get hold of it after hearing it on RP. Phew...

I'd call it breakbeat. At first I thought my winamp had lost it buffering.
nice!

I went to buy this and it\'s nt available through itunes. Wherever I got sent, the album is $34, an import, no doubt. I think I\'m gonna have to move to Aussie to pick up some of their great music, like this and The Audreys.

Best song I\'ve heard from him ... Far better than \'Heart\'s a Mess\'
This and "Battle Scars" go together quite well. Great work as always, Bill!

Yeah, some tracks on RP do seem to get a bit more than their share of heavy play for a while, then they just... disappear.

This is a unique album. Each song has it's own sound.
Cool, definitely a different feel from the other two songs I've heard on this album!
Sounds like Barry Andrews from XTC singing.
I like it. Has a good beat to it.
Until the vocals started, with that odd instrument (shawm?), this sounded a lot like something from Peter Gabriel's "Passion". The vocals changed that. Still, a nice song!
