In the morning,
When you wake up
Daytime fades up
And your make up runs,
Just hold on

It sounds tacky,
but I'm hopeful
There's a reason
That the world turns round,
Through silent sound

Set the dark on fire
Set the dark on fire
Set the dark on fire
Set the dark on fire
Now oooooohhhhh
Wooooooo ohhhhh

I got lost
Inside a memory,
When I was young
And I almost drowned,
I was found

It sounds tacky
But I'm hopeful,
There's a reason
That I found the ground
And my sirens sound.

Set the dark on fire
Set the dark on fire
Set the dark on fire
Set the dark on fire
Now

So take all that you know and stuff it in a hole,
And in ten thousand years someone will take you home,
Rewind the words in which you roam

ahh oooooh ooh
oooooooh ooh

Set the dark on fire
Set the dark on fire
Set the dark on fire
Set the dark on fire
Nowwww oooooh

Wow, people on this message board really hate this song.  Is it because they want to set dogs on fire, or because the vocalist is actually a dude? {#Angel}

society has entered a really dark place and h8rs are just free to h8 from behind a keyboard
Impressive track !!

I think it's because it's just...bad.
Set the dock on fire.
I like the song. Go Team Minority!
Cubical Hell? Now there's an existential problem for an angst ridden Geometer.

Wow!! My EXACT thought many times.....about my ex!
On my crappy cubical hell speakers it sounds like 'Set the Dog on Fire'  {#Stop}
LMAO, look down one.
You'd think this crappy song would have found its way out of the rotation by now.  I think at this point, I've heard it on RP more times than I've heard "Stairway" or "Freebird" on Clear Channel stations in my whole life.  {#No}
Without reading any other comment I'd just like to say this sounds like someone trying to sound like someone else.
Set the dog on fire...indeed.

Jeez, what is it with artists thinking that repeating the same line over and over is somehow beautiful? It's not! The same phrase 20 times in a song, no matter how beautiful the first one or two times, will get old.

Especially when repeated by such a plain, boring, nonbeautiful voice!
Can we listen to a new song by these guys? PLEASE?? You'd think that a 5.4 rating would be the clue that people don't want to listen to this every day.
Someone please throw a bucket of water on this burning dog and put it out of its misery....

Well, the repeated line obviously has many interpretations, as suggested in the comments below. Maybe just pick a different one for each time it's said. Set the doooooooooock on fire, Set the duuuuuuuuuuck on fire, Set the doooooooooog on fire, Set the doooooooooork on fire, Lehhhhhhhh mahhhhhhhh eeeeeeeeeen, ohhhh...

What a brilliant set! 10:23 am - Turin Brakes - Dark On Fire 10:19 am - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Weeping Song 10:12 am - Lamb - Gorecki 10:08 am - Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky Thanks, Bill! PS: Dorks should be educated, not set on fire.

I heard "set the duck on fire".
that's what I hear! and it's a guy? hysterical!
Sweet. I just looked through the previous comments and discovered I am not alone in thinking the lyrics were "set the dog on fire" and thinking it was a female singing. I'm 2 for 2. Great minds really do think alike.
is it dour depression day on RP?

Truly an awful song. I couldn't help feel bad that someone was singing "set the dog on fire". OK, that's not what she really said, but it's what I heard.
Not sure if it makes you think it's any more or less awful, but it's a guy singing.
It seems people's inability to deal with a British accent has made them ignore the fact that this is a really pretty & well-written song.

Turin Brakes is 2 dudes.
Be that as it may, the person singing this song does sound like a woman to my ears. A woman with a deep, throaty voice, but a woman none the less.
"Excuse me while I kiss this dog on fire."
Poor dog. Oh, wait... Actually, following this with "Mongrel Meets His Maker" would've been hilarious.
Set this music file on fire - and let it burn completely!
set the dock on fire?
"So take all that you know and stuff it in a hole. . ."
The more i hear this te more i like it.

This woman has nice voice, so why would she be setting her dog on fire? More seriously, this song is well produced but I find it strangely boring. I hope others are enjoying it more...

How do you make your dog sound like a cat? Stick him in a bucket of water and put him in the freezer until frozen solid. Then take a chainsaw to him - mmmmeeeeoooowwww.
Oooooh, you're a sick one. I like!
Dig the little major up-shift preceding the proceding verses! Nice touch. Interesting lyrics too, worthy of more than its' presentrating........

Bill just played this very soon after the DJ Shadow song "Mongrel Meets His Maker" - I think he's in on the joke. :)

That's who I thought it was at first. Can we have less Turin Brakes, please, Bill? He's on heavy rotation.
Yes it is very very Starsailorish. And Turin Breaks is a band...not just a he.
Imagine my embarrassment...I always thought the singer was female! Edit: Oh, and thanks, prof. I always wondered which was the correct spelling.
Good sound! Like this a lot! (Not "alot". Sorry, I'm a retired English Professor. . . . )
