Snide trash. Palsy? On what scale of sensitivity is that? How about sucko barfo?
Oldfield made some remarkable music in the '80s and '90s. Try Taurus, Celt, Discovery and other collections. And the terrific music for the Academy award nominated-and-winning movie The Killing Fields.
Lived and died by bells. Disease. Or palsy. Whatever. Not enough horror movies maybe.

This has little or nothing in common with Yanni, whose style is not up to or near Oldfield's synthesis of genres. Oldfield's pieces often cross hybrid into a solid genre all its own, and have been exceptional. I'm not overly familiar with Yanni, beyond a few sound bites or portions of some PBS tv concerts; tell me I'm wrong, but I think he may seldom go past a credible melding of romantic electronica, sort of like that noodler Kenny G did with his "jazz." For instance, just because we hear Coltrane and Miles here does not mean Kenny G has anything in common with them.
I have mixed feelings. I like Mike, but if we give him airtime, why don't we give some to Yanni? Same genre to me. And I don't think I want hear Yanni here.

Ditto.
I've had to downgrade this. Oldfields '80s and '90s offerings were a cut above. Celt, Discovery, Five Miles Out, Taurus II and others were wondrous things. This is not that. Still, I like Mike.

*shivers* Awesome!
Would love to see Talvin Singh and Mike do a show together.

I am an Oldfield fan, but it's clearly not among his best.

Yep, quit while you're ahead, rather than becoming a parody of yourself.
Dull and noodly. Original TB was ground-breaking. MO is a bit mad and reclusive these days with little interest in music (he hates it)' according to recent Q Magazine interview. Retired like David Bowie? If that is case, good on him, better than becoming a pantomine dame like Elton John and Mick Jagger.

A true classic, in an awesome re-mix!

I agree Ommadawn is very deep and beautiful. But there are many good Mike Oldfield Albums imo. Early good stuff beside Tubular Bells is "Hergest Ridge", "Five Miles Out" and "Crises (best 80ies synthesizer part ever) , the later album "Songs of Distant Earth" is also a milestone. Not to forget the vocalist songs with the singer "Maggie Reilly".
Nice but Ommadawn is my favorite from Mike.

Images of the Blue Man Group running through my head...
I feel like I should be shopping in a Sharper Image ... if those are even still around...
Dull.....
...so which is your favorite: tubular bells, orchestral tubular bells, tubular bells live I, tubular bells live II, tubular bells II, tubular X, tubular bells III, the millenium bell, or tubular bells 2003?..
...i tease - this is actually kind of nifty, i think...

Sounds like some really freaky Christmas song.
Hmmm. . . is it a 3, or is it a 6; is it a 3, or is it a 6; is it a 3, or is it a 6. . . ?
I'm feeling good today, 6
You can always identify Mike's unique guitar sound
Not the best version of the Tubular Bells album, but good to hear it anyway.

First time I read that, I thought you were referring to your duck :o). Nice remix this, bringing TB up to date.
Is it just me, or is this song repeating "Oh, oh, oh my d*ck hurts" over and over again?

Agghhhh.... sorry just to get repetitive electronica... computer generated stuff.

Tubular Bells was Virgin's first release and sent Richard's bank account into the stratosphere. It allowed him to fund the startup of all his other companies. He tells the story in his bio book, it's quite fascinating.

I like Mike Oldfield just fine. He was one of my early influences into different types of music. But I must say, rarely someone has milked a single song as much as Mike has milked TB - or made quite so many variations of the same thing.
He has othet stuff, and I know he can play different music, so enough already with Tubular Bells!

I like Mike Oldfield but cannot stand this.
Not sure but I do not think that the world is a better place with this rendering.
Nevertheless, MO also has to pay his mortgage, so who can blame him....
