One, two, one two three
I rode around restless
I paid the cost
I've been a mess
Misguided and lost
But I've been so blessed
Since our paths have crossed
That's why I'm cryin' tears of joy

In my own little world
Since I was sixteen
Little miss playground
Making a scene
And you took this girl
And you made her your queen
That's why I'm cryin' tears of joy

I used to play games with my boyfriends
Fashion and fame, hippo trance
Now I have a real man
Don't have to pretend
And that's why I'm cryin' tears of joy

I'll be your woman
Be your everything
You be my baby
You'll be my king
You give my life meaning
That's why I wear your ring
And why I'm cryin' tears of joy (tears of joy)
And that's why I'm cryin' tears of joy (tears of joy)
That's why I'm cryin' tears of joy

One of the greatest benefits of music, in my humble opinion, is how it can tug at different parts of your inner self, be it joyful, or mournful.  And it can be very, very personal.  This song made me close my eyes, and just get lost in the voice and the lyrics.
When the song was over I decided to read some of the listener responses.  Wow!  Apparently some folks hated it as much as I loved it.  Well, I guess that's Music Appreciation 101.
I'm definitely on the appreciative side.  Love her.

Tasty blues tune! Didn't expect that when I saw Lucinda's face pop up. Love the guitar.

"ALL music originally stemmed from Folk/Blues"?  Not, not really.

I have a couple of her albums on which her voice is at least reasonable, at times a bit contrived sounding, but nothing as, honestly, annoying as this.

Boring, blues is boring!
I'm crying tears of joy that this is almost over. Musical water-boarding.{#Headache}

Wow, her voice just keeps getting better and better as she gets older.

just the opposite IMHO

aaaaaaiiiiieeeee....her later stuff just makes me crazy....what a shame she burned her voice out....this sounds like she's on some downer....what are the odds?

Having been in relationships where we've had agonised introspective discussions in bed until the early hours, when all I want to do is get it on and/or get some sleep, I can identify with Lucinda on this one. Less yak, more shag. Shut your mouth and get into action.

Need some coffee... zzz..
Just because Lucinda doesn't have the greatest voice, does not mean she is not a great singer. I think this is true for many great singers, for instance Levon Helm and Rick Danko of The Band.

Tears of joy again,  A great song, wish I could figure out who did the guitar.

It was probably Doug Pettibone.

Not bad, but to slow for me!

I'm with you.  It's so good.

Not a fan. But the guitar is great.

Yeah, I agree. I like the music in this, especially the guitar, and would probably like the song if someone else was singing it, but I just can't get passed Lucinda's voice. Sounds like most of the people I've heard trying to sing karaoke after about five too many. Some people hear it as sultry...to me, it's just sloppy. But, hey, to each his own...obviously, someone likes it, with a ranking of 6.2.
If I was going to get a tattoo, I would want a Lucinda Williams' record playing in the background.

I can deal with her, but she is not my favorite. The guitar saves this one.

HeeHee.
It does suck.

I cry tears of joy every time this song ends.
I love her voice! {#Cheers}

Great except for her singing.

Exactly!

Great except for her singing.

Tears of joy again,  A great song, wish I could figure out who did the guitar.  but in a brilliant segue, they played Angus and Julia Stone, who I have never heard, but who clearly seem influenced by Lucinda.

She's great but honestly, does better...
This. is. a. true. blueswoman.
If she can keep this up for a couple of decades, she's on track for legendary-blues-dame status.

Oh Joy! No Tears here. Go Lucinda!!! Tom? Care to duet?

I think there is some grounded power going on hear.

Way too much Lucinda on here lately.

Really? It's the first time I've heard this woman on RP and I've been tuning in for a couple of years. Maybe I've just not been online a tthe right time...

Nice back to basics blues, which appeals to the basic nature of the Nottingham jury, which awards it an easy 7. Hey, barman, pass me a whisky and jar of sour persimmons!

AWESOME!!!

Really?  I'll have to listen some more, then.  But at first I took this to be a female imitation of Tom Waits: which ain't good.

(Is it her who's playing the guitar? That would get some points.)
This one is really growing on me.

Not for me.  Keep it up, Bill!  'Cinda is mighty fine, IMNSHO!

AWESOME!!!

OK,It's growing on me. I've gone from a 6 to a 7 and now to an 8 for this song.
A bit different for her, but I like anything from her. Her serious anger management issues with men that won't commit have resulted in some great songs.{#Fire}
Not a fan. But the guitar is great.

female Tom Waits ?

just kidding, I like it {#Music}

I'm a big fan of Lucinda's but gave this a 5. It's too like I Still Long For Your Kiss.
i love damn near anything this woman does!
well played lucinda.fine little song x
promising so far, liked the guitar may be moving this one up
LW is channeling Janis Joplin...
Not a bad song, but it sounds like "and I loooong for your kiss."
I love Lucinda's bluesy-country feel.
I need this album!  This is the second song RP has played that I've loved.
Just downloaded CD from Amazon.... thanks RP.
