What? Perhaps entire concertos could be played, but in regards to this particular piece, I think it fits wherever it is heard.  it's a beautiful piece of music to be listened to.  Like toys that should be played with rather than put on a shelf, classical music should be played wherever possible and not considered some intimidating relic of aristocracy that can't possibly be understood by the great unwashed.

This is part of a great segue playing right now: Ruben Gonzalez "Cumbanchero" -> David Lindley "Gimme Da 'Ting" -> Happy Mondays "Step On" -> Vampire Weekend "A-Punk" -> Vivaldi -> New Pornographers "Moves."

Try playing those songs in that order on YouTube or Apple Music or Spotify. Those with more musical knowledge/ability will describe the commonalities better than I can, but most of us will catch on just by listening.

Bill's a genius at this. When RP is on a roll, it expands your musical horizons like a good FM station could do in your teens.

Except... hate to say this, but...

(( face palm )) achh... you guys are SO awesome at segues, but when you go from an iconic piece like Eleanor Rigby to a completely generic baroque piece by Vivaldi (not one of his better ones) I feel the whole thing gets cheapened.

"Classical music" is not just segue material. It is a whole universe unto itself, and while it can be beautifully mixed in to rock/free-form sets, I feel that it requires a little more sophistication in its use. It's more, in other words, than just how it sounds in that set. Please use with care!

Well, that, and they both have cellos and violins in them so there is that commonality ...

I can just imagine William recording a Vivaldi warning :)
Vivaldy, Ozzy great...grand daddy !
Released: 1712

Now I'm picturing people in 18th century Italy and Germany running to the shops to get the newest woodcut record album of Vivaldi.
I love hearing baroque tuning (A=415 Hz) on pieces from this era. Vivaldi is always a great choice. More please!
Simply stupendous. Thanks to RP for dropping classical gems like this one from time to time.  Music does not get better than this imo.
ah oui mais là c'est italien :) So italian  :)
What a fucking genius Vivaldi was

HA! How refreshing to be able to read this comment after wading through the predictably stuffy holier-than-thou comments that proliferate once Bill plays something classical.

A bit of Vivaldi that's not The Bloody Seasons. Great!

Shame that only a single moment was played though as it really doesn't work for Baroque concertos.

Classical music is precisely what one needs for rush hour traffic.
After hearing this earlier I tweeted: I think "Vivaldi" must be Italian for "music that makes me happy."

Ah, yes. Vivaldi after Eleanor Rigby. Witness the genius sublime threads that weave the sonic fabric of RP.

If you're not already a "supporting listener" you need to step up!!

I'm glad I did!
Was just getting up from my desk to go do something.  I'll have to wait a few minutes.

Nice...  {#Roflol}
Vivaldi !! My main man.  No violinist would want to leave home without him.
Thanks for playing Vivaldi -- keep it classy San Diego.
BRILLIANT segue from Eleanor Rigby to Vivaldi!

{#Clap}
Bob Marley - Kaya
Ibrahim Ferrer - Bruca Manigua
Xavier Rudd - Follow the Sun
Vivaldi - Allegro, Concerto in G Major, Op 4 No 3

This is why I listen to RP. Programming genius.

I'd rather get pelted with Bjork occasionally than be consigned to Classic Rock Hell.

Amen and ditto. And this magnificence only compounds that view. This, or the 7,479th blast -- just this last month -- of Sweet Emotion Stairway to Heaven Bennie and the Jets?
It's been said that Vivaldi, The Red Priest, only wrote one concerto and freely rearranged it for the rest of his life. Horse hockey. This is too lovely.
Huh. I don't remember rating this. But I agree with myself that it is outstanding.
Most excellent and much needed at the end of the week!

Oh, thank you Bill, for appreciating that Antonio Vivaldi was probably the world's first rocker.  Feel free to do that some more.

You know, as much as I like Vivaldi, or maybe because of it, I think you do have a point.  It's a shame to condense Vivaldi, Bach or Beethoven down to a three miinute sound bite.

But it's a good way of introducing classical music to people who would otherwise never have the chance to listen to it. A 15 second snippet in a commercial is too short; but 3 minutes on a music station like RP is enough to think: 'hey, this is great!' And they'l be a happier person ever after....
