The tail lights burn red
They were hotter than hell,
And I've been long gone; couldn't you tell

The smoke in the air
Couldn't hide my shame,
Saw it lit up on that silver screen

And ahh that full bellied moon, she's a-shinin' on me
Yeah she pulls on this heart like she pulls on the sea

And you came on strong like some running wave
And your beauty left me broke and hungry
Left me begging to the birds for a bone or an offering
Left me saying nothin'; nothin', like I always say

And ahh that full bellied moon, she's a-shinin' on me
Yeah she pulls on this heart like she pulls on the sea

Ahh she's shinin' on; she's shinin' on me
And those broken-hearted lovers,
They got nothing on me

Going to see Mr. Isakov in a couple weeks and I cannot WAIT.
Reminding of Mumford & Sons, not much "new" here. RP tends to get more boring despite promising the opposite.

Every once in a while a song comes along which has that certain undefinable “something”. I’m tempted to call it “magic”, as cliché as that may sound, because I can’t think of a better word to describe it. Such songs are timeless, they survive decades, generations, and never lose that something. Every time you hear them they lift you up to a higher level. Maybe they make you smile, maybe they make you cry, but they always make you feel something. Suddenly whatever petty problem you were concerned with drifts away.

The fact that one or more human beings sat down with a guitar or at the piano and actually created these mini-masterpieces is nothing short of miraculous, in my humble opinion. I am eternally grateful to those songwriters, whose talent created these timeless gifts.

This is one such song, to me anyway. The lyrics, the performance, and the vocals always grab me and won’t let go until the last sublime note fades.

Thank you, Gregory Alan Isakov (and all you other musical magicians).

No cliche. Just the truth my friend.
Looking on that label, listening to the music, I would rate this 6, but after having read the latest comment, schwupps, it went up on 8. Astonishing!
Thank you thank you for playing Gregory!   You made my day!
He is amazing!!
Hey! Play that moon song.......
what moon song?
THAT Moon Song!
Great tune. If you're a fan of Isakov, you may want to look up Royal Wood - a fantastic Canadian artist who seems to have struggled to break out beyond our long and lonely borders. I know his older stuff better, so I'll recommend "Juliet" and "Do You Recall" to start.

I guess I've never thank RP for the fact that "introduced" this man in my music playlists. This Empty Northern Hemisphere is the album that brought my boyfriend and I together, in a tent from Chamonix campsite, while we were just friends back then and in love, but we didn't knew.

I recall hearing this on RP when it came out. I was in the best part of Setagaya-ku, in the best part of Tokyo, before the Fukushima meltdown, when I thought I'd be there forever... It struck and impressed me mightily. Now, I'm back in good old Boulder. Mr. Isakov is here, too. The Universe will truly surprise you sometimes.
Cool, Gregory and I share the same birthday...though many years apart.
This is another one of those artists that RP has introduced me to, that has that certain something. I got the album for Christmas, and I tell you, every song on it is gorgeous.

Just twins.
Any tune that brings tears to my eyes gets a 9. Lovely.

Beautiful.
I am inspired by this vision, more so every time I hear it.....

Cheers, khardog145!
Amsterdam  also sends me to another place. Just something about GAI compositions and performance that can appeal to a wide range of musical tastes!
Yet another artist that RP introduced me to!! Love this!

100% agree. And Gregory has done it more than once - Stable Song is another one. It's been 10 years and I've never had even the briefest of "I'm sick of this" moments with these tracks.

The into, particularly the strumming rythym and suspensions, reminds me of another moon song, Nick Drake's Pink Moon
For some strange reason this reminds me of my earliest childhood.
Beautiful...
Such a great song! A 10 with no hesitation.
7 to 9
Just a wonderful mellow song for a Tuesday

Every time I hear the beginning of this song, I think that Bill is playing a Royal Wood song.  Both artists have a voice that soothes the soul.
Ahhhhh . . . {#Meditate}

You should probably take an antibiotic for that.

Fine  song, but it doesn't quite fit a sunny spring day.

Sounding more Rufus to me.  Great song,
I'm getting Mumford & Sons here ...
And it is indeed a full moon tonight.
This is one of the best songs in recent memory.
I love i!
ARRGGGHHHHHHHHH. Where are the words? Love this even more than before.
nice Troubadoring here
Sounds like Steve Wilson
several good ones by him that RP plays
everything sounds so natural and effortless
Anyone else notice the similarity to The Head and the Heart?  (That's a good thing.)

Damn fine.
Full Sturgeon Moon, Aug. 29, 2:35 p.m. EDT (1835 GMT)
A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because the moon rises looking reddish through sultry haze. Other names are the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon.
You know you're on RP when this tune comes in.

Saw him with the boys and a full symphony.  So, so, so phenomenal.

Who came first?  :-)

Both of their first recordings were apparently released in 2003.
A wonderful album, but Bill, please, please, please play 'Master and the Hound" off the same LP; it is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. My daughter actually came down the aisle for her wedding to this tune (minus the lyrics), after getting Isakov to send her just the soundtrack for the event. She thanked him in person in Nashville when he played at a small venue there a year ago.
Hadn't heard this one for awhile - since it was on RP heavy rotation, maybe a year or two in the past. My whole life is completely different now. Funny how a song can kind of bookmark a chapter of life, and then pull you right back there when you hear it again down the track.
{#Daisy} ... nice tune -  "most excellent"

I'm a sucker for this melancholy stuff.
7+
Funny reading the previous comment - I was going to write that 2 of my favorite GAI songs are The Stable Song and That Moon Song. But Black and Blue is what turned my head, I can tell you exactly where I was when I first really listened to 3 am's lyrics, and and..... Thanks for being a GAI fan!!!

Seconded. This song got me all excited about GAI, but after a while I started preferring his other songs because I hadn't heard them played so many times.
Went to see if Mumford and Sons finally had SOME change going on... {#Rolleyes}

Where you be, Fred? Feckless?
Mee too.
Love this song.
..marble-mouth?..
yawn.  The only thing worse then the droning is droning with what I perceive as a twang.

What's with all the "droning" male vocals? Droning onnn and ooonnnnn. Well, it's not all bad, but enough already.

I know!  Right?  Apparently it's the new cool.
I like this one.
whining, predictable and ... boring
I haven't heard this in a while, and absence has not made the heart grow fonder. Down from "acceptable" to whatever a "3" is (ho-hum?).

I have missed this song.  I was thinking about it yesterday.

I saw Gregory live a few times.  Go see him if you get the chance.  He was great.  I am addicted to this record.  It's all great!

Never heard this before... pretty darn cool
Again, only on RP
awesome.
I first heard him in an episode of Californication. I love this entire album.
:) he has been mumfordized to some extent, not as extreme though.

Takes you in, floats along the slow-flowing stream, lovely.
This guy is an awesome and very modest songwriter. Once, he mentioned during a show after the intermission that he valued the fact nobody had left yet :P
Whole album deserves at least an 8!

Not too many in my list make it to "OUTSTANDING" ... but I'm upgrading this one.  Right now it moves me.
Such a sweet song, so much texture on a close listen. Great song.
Little Glen and Marketa in there.
I looove this song!
{#Music}
Very nice sound, I'm paying attention now...
Here it is again.

I can hear this song forever.
Its good to relax.
Instantly likable.

It's Monday morning, but I feel like I'm in an old cabin in the wilderness of New Hampshire, watching the stars appear between the tree branches. Thanks for playing, Bill!
