Ask your questions later
I'm still on my hesitator
A lonely big boat calls
And my resistance falls
Until my thoughts drift down to paper

And when I get that feeling
That I can barely contain myself
To bring them down upon account of the right time
And then replace them to the upper shelf
(I put my thoughts back up on the shelf)

Seems like time's agin' us
The losses mount to the winners
Another steady dose
Of awful TV shows
Crowing brand new has beeners

And if I seem delighted
I have to get you to check my pulse
It feels low down to the ground and now my money's gone
As I've been paying from some better results

Life goes on and on
Appreciate it
Cause when you're gone
You can't question a trace of how you made it
When you're down and out
Disintegrated
Just keep it in mind all the time that you've dedicated

Summer's moon's on the fader
Another seasonal perpetuator
Cold calls of fall will make me drop it all
Until we touch upon it twelve months later

Sometimes when I'm buying
The shit you're selling in your leather gloves
I get shot down, way down, to where the weather's better
And that the gods that I'm still in love

And when I get that feeling
That any mountain's too much to climb
I open my eyes and decide this ain't the first time
I tried reliving my original prime

Life goes on and on
Appreciate it
Cause when we're gone
You can't question a trace of how you made it
When you're down and out
Disintegrated
Just keep it in mind all the time that you've dedicated

In fresh air country silence
I lose the urban sick, slick violence
On every field of green
There is a silver sheen
That makes me question my own compliance

And when I field the query
I know the answer that I'm gonna give
It's not that one can beat the other in real time
It's just the scenery of how I wanna live

New to me. This SHOULD have been a hit in the US.

Another interesting thing about Sloan is that they each play all the instruments, so set to set, you can have different members on different instruments, including drums.
GREAT!  The more I hear this, the more I like it.  Thanx RP!
GREAT TUNE! I never heard of them before this. That is why we come here .  Thanx RP!

I saw Sloan perform in Detroit with Sam Roberts Band and what a treat it was. This was maybe 10-12 years ago. What surprised me was how every song or two the band members would switch positions and play a different instrument.
Picked up the brand new Sloan album the other day, "12"

Perfect start to Spring

Well, at least they were more successful than that other band "American Standard".

Amen! A treasure of a Canadian band. IMO One Chord to Another is one of the best indie rock albums I've ever heard - rockin', smart, layered. It's so ironic that Geffen dropped them (hoping they would be another Seattle pop-punk band) after Twice Removed, which has turned out to be a classic of indie pop-rock and is always in the top 5 of any Canadian albums list.

Just a bit of trivia:  Sloan's first album was recorded by my buddy Terry Pulliam in his living room, kitchen and maybe in the backyard of our co-operative housing project here in Halifax.  Terry told me that when they got a contract and the 'pros' listened to his recording they said "good job" and went with his mix.

Great story!

I tried uploading a new one and got an insta-sorry. Thought it was a shoe-in; they have some great poppy rock songs but, alas, not on RP.

funny, my first impression was of James McMurtry (another artist I now know/love courtesy of RP — Thanks, Bill!).
Like these guys who I never heard of until now! Like where were they all these years? Then noticed that this is their debut (on Radio Paradise).

I heard this song on RP and enjoyed it so I took a chance and picked up the album.  It kind of took a while to grow on me, but I really liked it and listened to it heavily for a couple months, but then gradually forgot about it.  I just ran across it and decided to give it a listen, and damn...I am blown away.  It really is a superb album.  I need to check out the rest of the stuff from these guys, and apparently there is a lot.

I hear Ray Wylie Hubbard too and yes, that does sound like Manzarek on organ. Mark Knopfler (aka Bill's brother from another mother) is off napping...

What, because they have an organ?  Wannabe Doors would have to sound at least vaguely Morrisonesque on vocals.  Not this.
I like quite a bit of Sloan's catalog, but in this case--Timbuk 3 should sue...
very cool . . .
Yep, Sloan has a nice organ
What just thinking this again :)

Sloan really evolved over time.  I like how they've remained flexible - and yet I can still tell it's them.

Sounds Like T-Bone Burnett from Proof through the night.

I could listen to this more...

Anyone else catch that little Jonathan Richman technique (adding a word after the phrase)?  Love it!

This has what I would call a 'Driving Beat'. Would love to experience this live.

This band is not quite what they used to be.  Giving this one a 5.  Their older stuff is definitely worth checking out.
Nice to hear again!

Wow, pretty cool song.  When I looked up at the playlist and saw Sloan, I had a flashback.  Sometime in the early 90's I went to see the Lemonheads during their It's a Shame About Ray tour and Sloan opened up.  I don't remember much other than I had a great time at the concert, but it's weird seeing Sloan's name again.  I haven't seen it since that show so I'm glad to see they are still at.  Love the driving beat of this song!

Not at all - give them a listen.  They have several sounds, and much of what they do is tongue-in-cheek.   I really like Action Pact and Pretty Together.
Quick 6 on first hearing.....
Great song.

Lee Michaels anyone?
Even if this was/ is their only one to crack the surface of indifference out there, it is a monumentally rocking track, and I hold it worthy of worship!

Most of what I've heard from Sloan leaves me cold. They tend to sound a bit generic and bland, but this one's kinda catchy. Nice propulsive beat. (ps, Thanks to RP for giving yet another relatively unknown Canadian band some exposure.)

They are of course pretty well known in Canada {#Wink} for anyone wanting more I'd suggest their live Double CD, "4 Nights At the Palais Royale." Much better than a Royale with Cheese. {#Cheers}
Cranking it up this afternoon!

Well ozzie1313, it sounds like we got us a demographic going. I did my first marathon at 50, and now at 56 I'm also in my last semester of graduate school. And once again working away on a Saturday night to finish off a paper (grumble, gripe)... The only thing that keeps me groovin' through these papers is the cool beat of RP.  Cheers

Love it!

Also Country Joe and the Fish with their Farfisa organ
Add Procol Harum to the list of great organ bands

Yes, love organs in rock.  Add Traffic, the Allman Bros, Brian Auger, Deep Purple.

This is great on first listen.  Love the intro.

8 on first listen.
You gotta love Sloan. Great to hear on RP!

Hey, cool, here it is again...I really like that Truckin' on, Dude! boogie vibe, really dig them lofty, piercing keyboard licks, like those vokes, and appreciate this groove with all its shades of darkness and flashes of brilliance...thanks RP for another Revelation Turn-on tune!
No regrets.  I love the hell out of this CD!!!! {#Dancingbanana}
I have every release by Sloan, and this new album in among their best. Me thinks.
Wow.  I just really LOVE this song!  I love the energy, the droll voice of the lead singer, the lyrics - there is no bad here.  Crap - I just spent money on some warm slippers for winter, but I might be able to eke out another purchase before my brother cuts up my card. {#Roflol}

Kind of reminds me of the band NRBQ, not musically but the modus operandi. A band that has paid their dues, too good to be a hometown bar band but lacking that one break to go beyond regional and/or cult status (and often touring extensively). This song always makes me wonder how the hell I missed them all these years.  I realize they're more than a regional band but they never hit far enough south for me to catch them.
