I let it fall, my heart
And as it fell, you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me

My hands, they were strong
But my knees were far too weak
To stand in your arms
Without fallin' to your feet

But there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true
And the games you'd play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Let it burn while I cried
'Cause I heard it screamin' out your name, your name

When I lay with you
I could stay there, close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together, nothing is better

'Cause there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true
And the games you'd play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Let it burn while I cried
'Cause I heard it screamin' out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
When we fell, something died
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time

Sometimes I wake up by the door
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now when we're already over
I can't help myself from looking for you

I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Let it burn while I cried
'Cause I heard it screamin' out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
When we fell, something died
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time

Oh
Oh no, let it burn
Oh, let it burn
Let it burn

Some music you just hear...maybe you aren't listening for meaning, you know?  Love, LOVE the bass line.  Did I read somewhere that Bill is a bass player?

great singer, great voice, lame song.

In the US we managed to set fire to a river. That's can do spirit!

From wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuyahoga_River

"There have reportedly been at least thirteen fires on the Cuyahoga River, the first occurring in 1868.<12> The largest river fire in 1952 caused over $1 million in damage to boats and a riverfront office building.<13> Fires erupted on the river several more times before June 22, 1969, when a river fire captured the attention of Time magazine, which described the Cuyahoga as the river that "oozes rather than flows" and in which a person "does not drown but decays."
MPR's On the Media just did a segment on why Adele's song "Someone like you" is so powerful and elicits such emotion from people.  It was a very interesting piece.

Setting fire to water is not as difficult as you would think.  Just check out some of the videos of people lighting their tap water on fire after natural gas companies doing "fracking" in their areas.

Great song though.  Have two teenage daughters, so I get my fill of Adele, but I do think she is extremely talented.

I can't believe romeotuma is not dancing to this...

Well said!
She's totally awesome
(except for the glue-on eyelashes).
This song incites goosebumps every time.
Nice voice with a lot of "arrangements ?" In French we could say .... "A good soup" {#Smile}

As the dad of a teen & tween, that's ALL they want to listen to, so I've been hearing her for a couple of years now.

The younger one was brave and went with me to take the kitty to the vet for the last time. "Someone Like You" was playing...it really struck a chord with him that he will never forget {#Cry}

Yes - give in completely to the cult of RP. It starts with an overwhelming sense that an oracle has shown you the light and the truth. It continues with repeated trips to the comment area where true believers congregate to share stories of their baptism. Soon you'll be making repeated offerings to you're new "family" until bills begin to pile up, and yet, you'll have no new music in your library to show for your conversion.

Seriously though, RP is awesome and not in any way a real cult. And if it is, that's cool too.

Nooo.... RP, are you just testing us?

I never listen to "music" radio when driving.  I know Adele set the pop music world on fire this year (along with the rain apparently) but this is the first time I've heard her.  Girls got a set of pipes....thanks for playing this
Set fire to the rain? Technically very difficult.  Is that what BP were trying to do off the coast of Florida?
Very well said. There's a few who will give a thumbs down because the song or artist was commercially successful and/or because of high production values. Only male artists and indie artists can make "good" music. Utter nonsense.

You should wake up to something other than top 40 radio, then..may I suggest NPR?

Keep in mind that a lot of the best music Bill plays for us was at one time top 40 fodder and has stood the test of time. Just because commercial radio beats you over the head with an artist doesn't mean they aren't good, or even great.

Great voice! She must also have 1 hell of a flame thrower too! I haven't been able to catch the rain on fire, yet... =)
So good! Perhaps the best album of 2011. Thanks Bill and Rebecca.
Her emotion comes through in her voice — not through her lyrics necessarily — for me.  I can register the feeling.  This makes me like her as a musician.
Dig it!

But, when this is the song playing from my radio-alarm, that damn chorus gets stuck in my head.  Not the way to start your day.  And now I'm ready to get outta here and here it is playing again.  Maybe the next song will erase it...  One can only hope.

I"m getting a little bored with her vocal stylings.

Interesting perspective...I think  that the continuity might be part of what I like about this song.

A rare, rare voice and a talent that transcends age and culture.

True.

It seems that he last twenty years or so have been unkind to real singers who have actual power in their voices. So many today can only whisper and without amplification would not be heard across a small venue. Some may not like her songs or stylings, fair enough, but her voice is an exquisite instrument.

What annoys me about this song is the continuous vocals. She keeps singing without a pause, and it makes the song quite monotonous.

  Me neither.
I like her voice, but it's sounding repetitive. I think it's the songs that I don't like. Kind of bland.
I think she hit it with that Rolling in the Deep tune, but fell flat with the rest. IMO.

Alas, this is why I quit listening to commercial radio.
2→ 1
Commercial or not, she's a great singer
wow!  Adele continues to impress me.
Finally! I've felt this is the best song on the album.

Am I the only one who is fairly surprised to hear the use of autotune on this album?  Adele is such an amazing singer, why try to make it perfect?  If you haven't noticed it yet, just pay attention to when she hits the high notes... all of the sudden, as soon as she hits the note her voice looses all inflection and sounds like a synthesizer.  Contrast this to another great singer from before the autotune-as-necessity era, perhaps Whitney Huston.  I personally like to hear a little imperfection, even in the best vocalists.

I am not an audio engineer, so maybe I am wrong about the whole thing.  Anybody else hear it?

Maybe it's the timbre of her voice, and maybe a compressor kicking in.

Yeah .. I hear some double tracked echoing vocals but not autotune.

No commercial radio in this homestead.  I love Adele.  She's a new artist I like. Really like. She deserves playtime.  {#Clap}
what ever it is, I hear it. I agree, she doesn't need it. I saw a folk singer a few months ago and he was using the same effect. It must resonate with someone... just not me

All of you saying this is too "commercial" just confirms that you actually listen and KNOW playlists on those particular stations.  If you're so concerned about whether or not it is played on RP, how would you know yourself how often it is played somewhere else?  I caught you!

Oh and p.s.  Get over yourself.

This song was written by Adele and Fraser Smith. Its a great song.

Keep playing her RP, she is a true artist and deserves to be heard.

too much Adele, I was expecting a commercial to come on next
Literal-minded alert.

OK, I am one of the people troubled by the lyric "I was afraid I'd eat your brains" - but how exactly do you set fire to the rain?

As usual, Adele has the voice that lesser singers would kill for.

This one of my favorites from her. She belted this one out at a recent show at the Greek Theater, so great to see her live!

"Set Fire to the Rain" = Brilliant song writing
Dang, can she sang!
Much better selection than Someone Like You from this album. What a voice!
Man, She sure is taking RP by storm.  Not that it's a bad thing.  I like her voice.  Powerful and clear to my untrained ears.
