I wish I had walked down, every road I ever set my eyes upon.
I wish I could take care, of every dream I ever set my heart upon.
I wish I could step free, of every weight I ever leaned my weight upon.
Lay low, let the good things come,
Lay low, let the good things come.

Wish I could walk out, of every scene of every game I ever played.
I wish I could move on, from every place in every town I ever stayed.
I wish I could let go, and hold on to anything I wanted to.
Let go, let the good things come,
Let go, let the good things come;
Lay low, let the good things come,
Let go, let the good things come.

I wish I could see you, and bear the times and long the days to waste away.
I wish I could be you, and see the world another way, another way.
I wish you could get through, to every face and every friend I ever knew.
Let go, let the good things come,
Let go, let the good things come.
Let go, let the good things come,
Lay low, let the good things come...

A typically crafted piece from Gray. Highly competent, but maybe fails to move like his finest work.

actually it has grown on me because it doesn't sound like the rest of his work...

Let go, let the kittens go?
Great cover, he got the song, easy 8 turned to a 9 from yo boy
IT'S A JOHN MARTYN SON!!!
Absolutely love his voice and music.  This song in particular speaks to me.... Elton John like...

Absolutely! Snotty, throw-away comment anyway. What was I thinking? I like the song today.

Yes, you're right- it's exactly the vibe of Love Song, which is one of my favorite Elton John tunes and which I first got to know through Sheila Nicholls' excellent cover of it on her album Wake (I got lost in this album in 1999- was going through an incredibly difficult time and this album veritably saved my life).  Check it out.

I did.  Sure am glad I discovered RP. or I probably never would have known the album existed or who John Martyn was.

Thanks,

Agreed on both posts.  Great listen and I wouldn't have even know or downloaded the whole John Martyn album if it wasn't for the RP play.  There are some pretty spectacular songs by some great artists.
What a voice....what a songwriter...

Nice post, my friend.  This is quality stuff throughout.  ps if you enjoy this version, give Mr Gray a try.
Another slow boring song...

Thanks for playing John Martyn...even in cover...

Probably should check out David Gray... Not familiar with him...But he does this very well...

Just love this song!  Seems to have been tailor-made for David Gray — very similar to his own style.
Bumped this one: 7 to 8!

Any chance, BILL, that we could hear some original John Martyn music. I've heard you play one of his songs recently. More, please!!!

Thanks!
What a great album.  Got me listening to John Martyn.  How is it did I not know of him before I started listening to RP?
I'd love to learn how to do this...
Definitely need to hear this again...
He's singing for everyone....

Yummy. David nails this. Powerful, yet understated.
this is nice.  seems like I should have gotten to know johnny boy way back when...

Such a fine thing to have so many musicians appreciate Johns music and also lovely to hear their interpretation of the songs. I don't usually like David Grey. . . but he nails this one.
