So, she says it's time she goes
But wanted to be sure I know
She hopes we can be friends
I think, yeah, I guess we can say I
But didn't think to ask her why
She blocked her eyes and drew the curtains
With knots I've got yet to untie
What if I were Romeo in black jeans
What if I was Heathcliff, it's no myth
Maybe she's just looking for
Someone to dance with
See, it was just too soon to tell
And looking for some parallel
Can be an endless game
We, we said goodbye before hello
My secrets she will never know
And if I dig a hole to China
I'll catch the first junk to Soho
What if I were Romeo in black jeans
What if I was Heathcliff, it's no myth
Maybe she's just looking for
Someone to dance with
Sometime from now you'll bow to pressure
Some things in life you cannot measure by degrees
I'm between the poles and the equator
Don't send no private investigator to find me please
'Less he speaks Chinese
And can dance like Astaire overseas
Okay
What if I was
So, what if I was
Maybe she's just looking for
Someone to dance with
What if I was Romeo in black jeans
What if I was Heathcliff, it's no myth
Maybe she's just looking for
Someone to dance with

Every time I think I can't love this song more, it plays again and I love it even more than that.
I did think it was Neil Finn. Nice rhythm guitar.
So Crowded House-ly sincere. Sticky with sincerity.
i was just thinking that this would sound great right after the kinks' sunny afternoon and lo and behold! it's playing!

I've always loved this song for its delightfully insightful Neil Finnishness, and I find that it sounds as good to me now as ever. RP rocks

Can't say it's the first time, but there 2 versions of this song from this album.
One accoutsic, this is the other version. Both of which I like.
Am I understanding this correctly that this is the first time Bill has played this song?

I've heard this so many times on Radio Paradise and have always assumed it was Neil Finn, now I need to look into this Micahel Penn fella!

One of those songs that there should be an 11 rating for.
Hey, I remember this one!! It's Romeo in black jeans!
Someone with whom to dance?
He's a smidge more than a one-hit wonder, but if you had only one hit you'd be hard pressed to do better than this.
A really good song with a hook that stretches its tenticals around me. Lyrics have personal significance that take this song to an 8 for me.

I Will Follow You into the Dark to this. I see what you did there, Bill. Nice juxtaposition.
Still good. Is he still married to Aimee?

There's an acoustic version of this that Bill has played before. Absolutely tremendous. A rare ten from me. This version isn't bad— just not nearly as good.

Always loved this! Seems to be in a Neil Finn/ Crowded House vein; very clever, heartbreaking sentiments set to brilliant catchy music!
Just what I was thinking...
He can sound so Lennon-McCartney with a soul all his own.
He burst out with this. Never forget it.

When I was little, I thought this was George Harrison. Oh well....

Yuck.
This is easily 100 times better than the live version I've heard played around here.
Never gets old!
I was listening to "Coming Up Close" by Aimee Mann (Penn's wife) and thinking that it had been a long time since I'd heard this. Thanks for the check-in, Bill.

wow. i uploaded this years ago and it was accepted then. i wonder, is this a different version/release?
Just lovely. A bit naff to be sure, but just lovely.
Gotta say that after having been on the shelf burried in dust, this sounds very nice.

Sure Aimee is light years beyond from Penn's !
Between Michael Penn and Aimee Mann there is lots of good songwriting.

This was so overplayed on commercial rotation when it was released, and even for years afterwards. Not having heard this version in a while, it did get my foot tapping.
The quieter version is interesting but this is better overall. Jim Keltner's drums really pop.
Sounds a lot like Crowded House. Haven't heard this in a while, nice.
