I have heard the war and worry of the gospel
Ferried fast across the void
I have married broken spoke charging smoke wheels
Spit and swallowed opioid

I am the driver at the wheel of the horror
Marching circles at the gate
Mine eyes have seen the fury
So flattered by fate

Tonight, I'd rather count the warm fuse internally
Subtract the silence of myself
I would rather choose the middle mind of mystery
Reverse the riddle for my health

I'll unwind strange rinds overpowering
Toss the chimneys in the sea
I believe I've seen the finger
Devine extremity

Please come closer to the feather smooth lens fly
Sadness is my luxury
Will you weather, join the cold, come before I die
More aware of it than me

The valves are blowing stone,
the kids are unabashed
Loneliness postponed
Mine eyes deceiving glory
I was born to die alone

Great new site! I love it!
Beatles ending...
Yes indeed, great live!
One of the best live bands you'll ever see.
an easy 10.
6 > 8.
This gets better each time I hear it.

"...I am trying to bore you to death..."
Don't know if you were listening but Bill just read out your comment after the latest play of Wilco's 'Born Alone'. Good on you.

I adore Wilco, have seen them several times in the UK and am so happy that they're playing in NZ in April. Missing out on great gigs was my biggest fear about emigrating here but we've got Wilco and Neil Young tickets in our back pockets so we're off to a good start ;-)

A bit of Big Country in this song
I like the last quarter of the song better than the rest. The verse section of this song sounds kind of dopey to me. I like the energy of the last portion though...like I mentioned.

I saw them a couple of years ago on ACL, and it was the sort of typical buttoned down audience for that show,  Apparently they were not giving the sort of reaction that Tweedy was used to.  He finally looked out at the audience and asked "who are you people?"

Good for him......yuppies piss me off, too

I recently saw Wilco on Austin City Limits. I don't think I have ever seen a band that tight. 5+ guys playing with one musical mind. The crazy thing is that it is controlled chaos - the best of spontaneity combined with studio-like precision. Truly amazing.

And WAY more awesome when you actually see them live in person. I saw them on ACL and also saw them live twice. ACL was good, but so much does not convey on TV compared to a live show. Go get some tickets!

Check out their perfomance on NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
They've taken a page of out the Flaming Lips here with that screechin guitar bit.

Two Wilco songs within 30 minutes of each other.  This is a good day.

Too bad Fred that this is an auto Ho-Hum for you, but I get what you are saying.  There are certain bands out there that give me a similar reaction.

Heavenly Pop Hit.

Wilco on Steroids ........... not bad

I like it!   Some goof-ball at stereofile didn't think this album was their best shot.  Loser {#Rolleyes}

so everything should be as good as YHFT ?

IMHO close to the top of the tree ATM....... great sound!
Little bit of Finn influence maybe?

...this catches my ears much more readily than most wilco i've heard in the past...

Well, I guess I give them points for not sounding like Wilco ...

Maybe just like the first Wiico.
Which Mr. Tweedy has been trying to avoid since the "AM" album.
Why... I don't know.

That was the whole point of the previous post... to list the shows they'd seen and "impress".  "Coding_to_music" from "Beantown", not impressed.

CTM's been at RP years longer than you but he doesn't come around much anymore. So someone unknown to most of us, and who's bagging on Wilco, will naturally be dismissed as someone who doesn't actually enjoy "good" music. To preempt that inevitable post, he listed some shows he thought were better.

Can't agree with you there. Saw them a couple of nights ago in Raleigh (for about the 7th or 8th time). Incredible show, probably one of the better shows by them I've seen.

To each her and his own, I guess. However, I do have to say that's a pretty impressive list of shows this past year.

Ok, saw my first Wilco show (with about 4000 other people) last night.

Overall, I won't see them again. So much of their music is rather forgettable, without enough melody. Just pleasant anonymous music.  Sometimes it is a bit loud and theatrical, but the song itself is ho-hum.

This year I also saw Peter Gabriel, Mark Knopfler, Manu Chao, Neko Case, Steely Dan, Dengue Fever, Steve Miller, Elbow, Lindsay Buckingham, Furthur, KT Tunstall, Gomez and some more
I would see all those bands again, very memorable, lots of hits.

Wilco?  Not so much.  Their hits are good, but so much of their music does not "ring" for me...
