Hey there sugar darling
Let me tell you something
Girl, I've been trying to say
You look so sweet
And you're so, so doggone fine
I just can't get you out of my mind
You come a sweet taste in my mouth now
And I want you to be my spouse
So that we can live happily now
In a great big old roomy house
You know you got to groove me baby
Oh yeah
Well you make me feel good inside
Come on now groove me baby
I need your groove
Hey!
Hey there sugar darling
Let me tell you something
Girl, I've been trying for days
Gimme some lovin'
And some 20/20 huggin'
Ooh, you cute little thang
Well girl between you and me now
We don't need no company
No other man, no other girl now
Can enter into our world
Not as long as you groove me baby
Oh yeah
Make me feel good inside
Come on and groove me baby
I need your groove
Hey!

Wow this is surprisingly awful.  Sounds like someone doing a silly cover of a silly blues song.

Perhaps you'd prefer Beyonce's version?

I'm sorry, what was the name of the song?
Etta James, great voice, but in this instance very poor choice in lyrics.  And if it's supposed to be a goad and inducement for her gentleman friend to keep a rhythm while "grooving" her, she has fairly low expectations for her partner regarding duration of said "grooving".

Well, okay. If it'll make you feel any better, the song was written by a guy, King Floyd.

I wonder how many songs have attempted to rhyme 'spouse' with 'house' :^ / In fact, I don't think I've EVER heard a song with the word 'spouse' in it.

Ain't much rhymes with "partner".
I prefer the Blues Brothers. How sad is that? 4
This tune would be totally awesome if sung by the brilliant Robert Palmer.
I do believe he would have added quite a bit more 'groove' to it.
Etta James sounds exactly like Angelo Moore of Fishbone on this song.
I'll give this a 2 to be generous.
100% thought this was a man singing. And I'm a fan of Etta, even seen her a couple of times. RIP Etta

I'd Rather Go Blind :

Something told me it was over
when I saw you and her talking,
Something deep down in my soul said, ´Cry Girl´,
when I saw you and that girl, walking out.
I would rather, I would rather go blind boy,
Than to see you, walk away from me chile.
Ooooo So you see, I love you so much
That I don't want to watch you leave me baby,
Most of all, I just don't, I just don't want to be free no

I was just, I was just, I was just sitting here thinking
Of your kisses and your warm embrace, yeah,
When the reflection in the glass that I held to my lips nowbaby,
Revealed the tears that was on my face, yeah.
And baby, baby, I would rather be blind boy
Than to see you walk away, see you walk away from me, yeah
Baby, baby, baby, I'd rather be blind now
Something told me it was over
when I saw you and her talking,
Something deep down in my soul said, ´Cry Girl´,
when I saw you and that girl, walking out.

To remember, "I'd Rather Go Blind" is a Blues song written by Ellington Jordan and co-credited to Billy Foster. It was first recorded by Etta James in 1968. Etta James wrote in her autobiography "Rage To Survive" that she heard the song outlined by her friend Ellington "Fugi" Jordan when she visited him in prison.  She then wrote the rest of the song with Jordan, but for tax reasons gave her songwriting credit to her partner at the time, Billy Foster.

The opening "Hunh!" did for me, and things didn't improve much after that. "Heaven took a dump in" - what? Great singer going by other songs on RP, but this one grates on these lugholes. Back in 5.

Your King's English isn't helping you any here brother.  It's "Hey there sugar dumplin".
King Floyd rules this song....he can scream like James Brown

This is a great version of this song!  But then I have never heard a bad version.  {#Bananasplit}
That is some kick-ass guitar coming through too.
Rockin'  {#Dancingbanana_2} Fine American music. As fine in its genre as Beethovan was in his. {#Bananapiano}

I think Etta would want us dancing. {#Dancingbanana}   {#Dancingbanana}
Now this is excellent too. Dammit, so much excellence on one day.

R.I.P.
Works for me!
